  1. I've been watching from the beginning and I hadn't felt that Lill had done anything really wrong until the week before last. She outright lied to Rupert, which, in my opinion, was wrong. She was playing the game but still ...lying ...hmmmm. I think she knew that what she had done was wrong. Obviously, it's just a game, but I think Rupert got the bad end of the stick. Rupert worked so hard to take care of everyone and make sure they had food. Honestly, when they gave him the boot, I was thinking that they're going to starve. Now they're getting hungry. :0)
  2. Last weekend I was in an outdoor/adventure type store in Brattleboro, VT and I saw the cutest gift! It's a little set for the gourmet backpacker I guess, lol. It has a tiny spatula, whisk and something else (I forget now).
  3. P.S. I don't go to roundtable because my 2 year old wouldn't fit in very well there. ;0) I go to council just about weekly with my 2 year old in tow and search the flyer rack for any new info to bring back to my pack. I also check the council website frequently for any new info. I spend a lot of time on pack rather than district or council because my children are accepted at pack committee meetings. My husband attends school full time in the evenings and even if I had a babysitter, I would not be able to afford to pay one for volunteer work. Where my children are welcome, I go. I guess that I am a typical Xer because family and relationships rate very high with me.
  4. I'm a Gen X'er and just finished one of my midterms which happened to have a whole section on this topic for my Organizational Behavior Course. I had to do a study of Rokeach Value Surveys (I'm sure whoever wrote that powerpoint slideshow studied the same sort of info)and this is what I learned: Veterans tend to be loyal to their employers and are likely to place the greatest importance on a comfortable life and family security. Boomers place a great deal of emphasis on achievement and material success. They're pragmatists who believe that ends can justify means. Boomers see the organizations that employ them merely as vehicles for their careers. Terminal values such as a sense of accomplishment and social recognition rank high with them. Xers value flexibility, life options, and the achievement of job satisfaction. Family and relationships are very important to them. They also enjoy team-oriented work. Money is important as an indicator of career performance but Xers are willing to trade off salary increases, titles, security and promotions for increased leisure time and expanded lifestyle options. Xers are less willing to make personal sacrifices for the sake of their employers than previous generations were. They rate high on true friendship, happiness and pleasure. Nexters have high expectations, believe in themselves and are confident about their ability to succeed. They seem to be on a never-ending search for the ideal job, see nothing wrong with constant job hopping and continually look for meaning in their work. Nexters are at ease with diversity and take technology for granted. They enjoy teamwork but are also highly self-reliant. They tend to emphasize terminal values such as freedom and a comfortable life.
  5. I don't personally climb and don't have much knowledge of the mathematical portions of this conversation but my hubby is a climber who has helped in rescue efforts. The majority of falls that I personally know of occur because of improperly placed gear. The last time he was at the Gunks they had to carry out a guy who fell off a cliff. When he lost his hold, the pieces that he had placed on the way up came out of the crack and he took a really bad spill. (I belive at the time that climber posted a thank you on rockclimbing.com) I also recall reading somewhere about a boy scout who broke his wrist because of double ropes or something. I was looking for that post again to show hubby. Anyone have any ideas where I might have seen it? I thought maybe it was here. Bottom line - No gear can protect you from yourself if you don't know what you're doing.
  6. Bookmarks! Cut out the pieces of paper/oaktag/whatever using special edged scrapbooking type scissors if available ($1.00 at our local junk store). Punch a hole and put a string/yarn through. Decorate. Since they're older, they could probably laminate them, too, but it's not necessary. Quick, easy, inexpensive.
  7. "Even the worst kid in the world would mow the lawn when told if he knew that he would be stoned to death instead of being grounded." A bit off topic but when I was doing research today about Thanksgiving I discovered how life was for Pilgrim children. They OBEYED. If they did not, they were put in those big wooden things with their head and arms through it! I had always assumed those were for prisoners or "bad people". NOPE! They were for bad children.
  8. What part of New England are you from? I live in Connecticut and did a good amount of short backpacking trips before I had my now 2 year old. I was supposed to go today to camp out at a neat little spot on the AT but my hiking buddy dipped out on me to go to the World Series. The nerve! If you let me know what state you're looking in, I can try to help you out.
