Order Of The Arrow Requirements
jpstodwftexas replied to christineka's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I have seen plenty of troops elect young members into OA...Easily done when The Older Members are all already Elected into OA...and In New Troops where They are voting in their eligible Scouts for the First Time. At the Time I joined my Troop 6 me and 1 other scout was the only Non-OA Members in the troop..It was another full year before we had another youth join the Troop..Lodge Wanted to Know why we did not Elect anyone that year.We told them Our only Non-OA member just joined the troop he was 11 and had been registered 2 Days .. and In our troop which has 12 Monthly Camp outs...Plus 2 Weeks Summer Camp..He had his Camping requirements the Following Year. And we had Quarterly Camporees also. And as the Only Eligible OA Member of the Troop we elected him...It was 2 years before another Youth joined our troop. Yes our troop was always very Small and we loved it that way. -

I wish I could have stayed involved in Scouting...After High School I tried College then went into Military...Wanted to get back in But was given the Cold Shoulder Locally because I was Single and Working on the Road a lot..Finally had an Opportunity to come back when a former girlfriend's son got involved for a Short time in Scouting....Due to Medical reasons I never had or can have kids...Once they left scouting I basically was ousted again...Can't have an Older Man with no kids hanging around Scouting would be suspicious ! ! I wish I had the Opportunity to give back as much as Scouting gave me when I was a Youth..My Dad Died when I was 9.. So Scout Leaders were my Father figures. that and My JROTC Leaders We can't even get a Local Scouting Alumni Association group going Here

Montana Council, Boy Scouts of America shared Troop 380's post. 28 mins · Troop 380 New Mexico on Saturday, June 27th. Alden and his fellow scouts and leaders were on a 12-day backpacking trek at this 250,000 acre Boy Scouts of America High Adventure Base. At 4:30 AM a flashflood swept through their campsite near Indian Writings staffed camp. The surge of water moved equipment, tents, and scouts and leaders from their site. Four of our scouts and a staff member were swept away in the rushing waters, mud and debris. Three of the scouts and the staff member were found safe. Unfortunately Alden did not make it and was found a significant distance from the campsite. Our hearts go out to the Brock family during this difficult time. Roger and Cindy are in Alburquerque to bring their son home. Last night Troop 380 held a special Troop Meeting to help us all through the greiving process. It was attended by over 200 scouts, parents and the scouting family. It was truly a moving evening. The troop has established a Brock Family Fund to help out with expenses. If you would like to donate to this fund please send them to Troop 380 (Brock Family Fund), C/O Don Dier, 9216 Starina Way, Sacramento, CA 95826. I will post funeral services locations and times in the near future. Please join us as we send our thoughts and prayers to this wonderful Scout family, Roger, Cindy, Russell and Alden.

So Sad that they will be forever burdened with his lose when looking back at their Philmont Experience..I hope that some may be able to return to Philmont and not have the Sadness overshadow the Fun and Beauty of Philmont...Thank God the Worst I experienced was blisters and people making fun of me because I was from Texas.. I admit it would be hard to continue a Trek and I doubt I would want an Arrowhead to remind me of the Tragedy.

Condolences to the Family and Friends of the Scout Lost News Release - 6/27/2015 This is a very difficult time for our entire Scouting family. During the early morning hours of Saturday, June 27, Philmont Scout Ranch was hit with significant rainfall that resulted in elevating stream levels and some flooding in areas across the property. The health and safety of our youth members is our top priority and our staff immediately began making contact with all crews and participants throughout the backcountry to offer assistance and assure the safety of all participants. During that process, our staff was unable to account for one youth participant, who we have since confirmed passed away. We have notified the family and are supporting them in any way we can. We are also mindful of the Scouts and adult volunteer leaders present on the trek, and we are also working to support those affected by this tragic incident. All other participants have been accounted for and there are no additional injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we are supporting them in any way that we can. Philmont Scout Ranch is comprised of 214 square miles in New Mexico. Each year, around 20,000 Scouts visit Philmont for backpacking treks and training and service programs. At Philmont we strive to provide a safe and inspiring setting for Scouts to experience the natural environment of northern New Mexico and seek to protect both Scouts and wildlife. Please keep the family and those involved in your thoughts and prayers. URL: http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/~/link.aspx?_id=829043D2C6F54040B330C6D8D1FE4C6B&_z=z

I believe that the FDL in itself is not a BSA trademarked Logo.. The BSA Logo with Eagle forefront is. The FDL is used by Several place in their Logos Including WSO, New Orleans Saints, and University of Louisiana.

Kinda Wish they Would back Date the Awards..Since I was Active in Scouts in 1979 through 1986 ..Except back then BSA around here was not promoting anything NonLocal except Philmont...And Of Course there was no Internet for people to Discover things on their Own..In all My Years I never Heard of KISC...until 2012...Lord Forbid that A Local Council would dare to Tell Scouts that there was an International Scout Camp they Could Visit....Nope Only Rich Kids to Lambo and NOAC around here.. Combine my Service in Scouts..and My 4 Years in JROTC I could have easily Earned Gold and Would have If I had Known about the Award..I tried to Earn everything I could..I got Paul Bunyon, I got Multiple 50 Milers, I got Mile Swim, I earn BSA Life Guard, I got Historical Trail Award..but Never heard of Any National Awards I could Win...My Troop Even Had a Honor Scout Award..Which I earned multiple times..It was a year long program based on Attendance, Uniform wear and Inspections, Participation in Events including Troop and Council events such as First Aide Meets, Camporees, Attending Church, Advancements and Merit Badges and Service Hours. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place got a BSA Medal ( generic Buy off the Shelf)...4th Place got Half of Summer Camp paid for..3rd Place Got Summer Camp Paid for...2nd Place got Summer Camp paid for and Half of Philmont paid for..1st Place got Summer camp and Philmont paid for..

Are any of the Religious Awards..able to earned by NON-Boy Scout of America . Can a Girl Scout Earn the BSA recognized Award and wear it on her Uniform. Can Johnny FHA Member earn it? Will there be a BSA Knot for it..For Adults? Will BSA make it a Youth and Adult Award since it can be earned past the 23rd Birthday...Which Surpasses the 18th Scout and 21st Venture Crew Birthdays ? Why Doesn't the BSA not already have their own Award for recognizing the Youths for their Service Hours..A Council earns an Award based on their Total Number of Hours?..An OA Lodge earns an Award correct? Even Units are Recognized for the Hours their members earn. But No Award for an Individual from BSA Again I say that since the Award is not a BSA Specific Award I would say not to wear it. I have earned several Awards for my Service to BSA throughout my Years but None are recognized as BSA ONLY AWARDS...I don't wear them. Here is another Award that should be promoted and Adopted by the BSA... http://www.youthpatriotism.org/.. I actually had my Cub Scout Dens working on these awards and They were almost finished before I left the Unit. I was told since It was not BSA Specific I would have to pay out of Pocket for all Awards and I could not present them to my Den Members at a Pack Meeting Since not all Dens were Working on them. It compliments BSA goals and Mission
-
It can be earned by any Youth including those outside BSA So I still say NO... and It can be Earned up to the Age of 23...So It Means it Can be Earned by Adults also. The Award is Given from Outside BSA Also.

The one I find is Not a BSA Specific Program So I would say No...

Boy So Glad all the people on that Forum and on the Facebook Groups were never Scouts....Otherwise none of them Would be in the Great outdoors... The Tventuring forum has people from all over the World posting Great places to go Camping on Daily Basis. They share Great pictures.. I see more pictures of these type of Camping trips than the "Ruck it in" on your Back only by foot Trips...Where are the People posting the Hiked 2000 Miles over the Mountain Uphill both ways type of Trips? -
that picture is all over facebook...seen it hundreds of times..even on some scout pages..I am sure Somewhere some Scout EXE is having a Heart attack and Banning them from Scout Camps around America

Having Set "Cost" per Person per Event...leads to excess Food. Not really a Problem when your trying to feed 3 Boys on a Trip...but if a Patrol has 12... 120 goes a long long way for feeding just 4-5 meals Now If everyone had to pay a share each time..there might be less of a Chance that Things just get Bought over and over each time...Waste not want not... Simply put..If you have the Money you will waste it buying stuff you don't need...How many of yall return excess money after a trip because it broke down to $4.37 per person instead of $10.00..People who buy feel Obligated to spend the Full Amount each time otherwise they think they are cheating the people out of their money.. Before any Food is Purchased any and all left over food should be accounted for and Factored into purchase and planned Meals. Also Storing Auto purchases will lend itself to wasted food...for what ever reason, like Rotation and menu changes on spur of the Moment..you find youself with a Box of Cake mix that is 5 years old..or a Can of beans rusting out in the Trailer

I like how other Scouting World Organizations continue to Embrace and Welcome Scouters to Continue on after the Age of 18 and after the age of 21

I believe the Leaping Wolf would = Arrow of Light (Cub Scout's Highest Award) and The Springbok would = Eagle
