I was just removed from a Troop's Committee because Troop Scoutmaster was chicken SH*T. I showed up in Full Uniform, I sat in on BOR along with the ASM and 2 Other Committee Members. I work hard to set a good example, but he is the Star Quarterback. And He gets what he wants. If Your Not One of the Good Ol' Boys..you have Problems. If Your asked to sit on an Eagle BOR and Feel that the Scouts today are not earning Eagle politely refuse and don't explain yourself other than a Polite " I am sorry but I have already agreed to help a friend do something that night type answer." If you ruffle feathers your on the outs like I am.

And We see Why BSA is having Problems..NO Clearly defined anything..every One has their "point of View on Every issue facing Boy Scout today -
BadenP What am I wrong about..Why OA was Created? Retention is not what we were talking about. I got a Long long rant on that issue itself. Why is OA having problems...Boredom..Lack of Opportunity..Failure to embrace change. Same as Boy Scouts of America. Why Keep segmenting Membership even More?

Ordeals Vary from Lodge to Lodge.. I can Tell You I didn't get any Matches. We had to Bring Our Own Flint and Steel..I went through One of the Coldest, Wettest, and Windiest Ordeals Ever in My Lodge. Several Candidates did not prepare a Proper fire pit... So After the Third fire ..We had no Night Time Fires. And to Top it off we had Snow and Sleet all night Long. It was 15 Degrees During the Day Below 0 at Night. We ain't use to that around here Back then our Candidates arrived Saturday Morning 7 am Check in...8 - Work till 12... 2 Slices of Bread 1 Slice of Baloney..Work till 5...2 Slices of Bread At Dark Pre-Ordeal.... Stake out..3 Am Wake Up...1 pint milk, 2 Slices of Bread, 2 Slices Bacon, 1 Egg, 1 strip Aluminum Foil.. I feed the Bacon to the Ranger's Dog (Who slept on me all night long, help keep me warm in my ratty second hand Army feather sleep Bag)..Cracked the Egg and mixed with Milk..Breakfast was Over....4 am was morning Muster...work Began..Work till Noon..2 Slices of Bread...Work till Dark..Ordeal Ceremony and then Candidates first in Line for Dinner ( 2 Slice Of Bread and 1 Slice on Baloney sitting in Plain Sight) instead we got 20 oz. Sirloins, Largest Baked Potatoes that could be found around town, Fresh Backed Rolls, Baked Beans, Salad plus Desserts out the Whazoo..So much we were Stuffed..and Then Business Meeting Ordeal for Lodge Members Went like this Friday Night..Vigil Member Steak Dinner ( Ordeal and Brotherhood Cooked and Served) followed by Spades and Dominoes Tournaments, Cracker Barrel, Music, Camp Fire in the Fireplace in Dining Halls...Lights out Everyone Except Vigils..Who took part in the Vigil Induction Ceremonies.. Saturday Morning Vigil Steak and Egg Breakfast..Vigils Prepared and served Newest Vigil Member first..Ordeal and Brotherhood Regular Breakfast..Helped Check in and Worked along side New Candidates..Saturday Night while Candidates were on Stake out long trail we Had Brotherhood Ceremony followed by More Fellowship and Cracker Barrel till about 11 Pm..We would rotate what is Now Called Elongomat Duty checking on the Candidates all night long. Sunday Morning Newest Brotherhoods got a Big Breakfast first..Work Along side Candidates.. Our Lodge was packed.. In addition we had Camping Trips Together, Monthly Fellowships, We Had Horseshoes, Domino, Spades, Hearts Tournaments etc. We Went to Conclaves went to NOAC (well those that Could Afford it), We had a great big "Tap Out" (now called "Call Out") Ring at the Camp..Now Nothing.. First Fellowship in Years was in September. They Resist trying anything it seems.

Somethings need Shouting.. but Yes I am having Fun with the Editors. Joining Scouts is About Participating in Scouts. Not Participating Is Kinda Like sitting at Home saying your Part of Football Team because You don't wan't to get sweaty.

I have been looking into Newer Lighter Machines with Smaller Batteries and I have also been looking into Solar Chargers. One of the things that pop up in all the Forums we seem to Over look. To get More life out of the Batteries is to Unplug the Machine from the Battery when not in Use. No sense in Running the Displays and small Lights on Knobs when Not in Use Right Now I have a plug in Model RESMED so I am Restricted to Camping where Electricity is available or Running off my Truck Battery as I stated in the Other thread. However the Unit is Getting Old and has 19058 hours on it. It May be time to get a Newer one. I do like the self Humidifying features of the smaller newer ones also. I have emailed The Summitt to see if it is true that People On CPAPS are not allowed in Back country anymore, so awaiting their word on that issue. Since I am Pretty much limited to yalls dreaded "Car Camping" due to Health Issues I have also thought about making a Custom Camp Trailer with a Solar Charging system and also a Camp Kitchen on the Back part. I just can't seem to bring myself to spend $35000+ on a Tent with TVs and such, although a Restroom would be Nice when They are not available or the Port-a-johns have a Long line

I will say this...I was an Atheist as a Kid...I never believed in God. However I decided to Join Boy Scouts. I was raised Patriot. I was raised saying the Pledge of Allegiance Daily in School. I knew and Understood that I would be required to say "phrases" every meeting that mentioned God. I quickly learned I could be both an atheist and a Scout by following those rules. I knew that " My Duty to God" was different from everyone else, I knew I could be Reverent by following the rules of Respecting the Religions beliefs of others. I was never grilled over religious Views. Every Scout Event to this Day.. I have said and will continue to say Loud and Proud "On my honor, I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight." A Scout is:Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. I choose to be a Member of the Boy Scouts of America and to follow its Rules not stand my idly while all the other "real" members followed the Rules. I was not Forced by anyone. While a youth I never Missed a Scout Sunday, sitting Reverently in the Back of Grant street Methodist Church..in a Clean Full Scout Uniform nor did it Kill Me to proudly present the Colors anywhere. I also participated in the Easter Pageant in the Wichita Mountains at the Holy City many Years. I Participated in Parades It Never killed me to Do a Good Turn Daily and It still don't. A while Back I simply return stray shopping cart to the buggy area instead of leaving them rolling around the spaces because people were to lazy to walk a few feet. Participating in scouting is Doing So in all Events.. Not standing By watching others And I am DAMN PROUD TO SAY I AM AN EAGLE SCOUT and A BETTER ADULT BECAUSE OF IT. My Only regret in Life was missing out for very poor reason on Scouting as an Adult from 1986 - 2011. In the Military I had No choice, and many jobs have kept me on the road or unavailable to attend events. I believe in GOD I still have a Problem with CHURCHES

No your Missing the Point. Order of the Arrow was started to keep the Older Youth involved in scouting. To Give scouts who at the time had reached the Highest Rank Time (First Class Scout) something to do. To Offer Opportunity to socialize and Serve at the Same time. You would make all Youths suffer based on Your poor Lodge ? I see Oa as a Whole folding because of Lack of Participation unless they start Doing stuff besides requiring Membership to WORK WORK WORK. Lodges that survive and Thrive have Fellowships..be it Movie Nights, Pizza Parties, Camping Trips, and other social Events. There is More to OA EVENTS than just dressing up as "INDIANS". Last SR2-3N Conclave we Had Tug-a-war, Dodge Ball, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Even shot off a Cannon. We had Banana Split Eating Contest, We had someone Bring out a Collection of King Snakes, We carved a Totem to be placed at the Camp. Yes the was a Pow Wow for the Dancers, however the was a Ice Cream social at the same time for the NonDancers. Everyone was not forced to participate in the Pow Wow. Nor was everyone forced to take part in the Ceremonies competition. Maybe we need to Organize a National Camping Society inside scouting for those who like to Camp and Not Dress Like Indians or a National BBQ Society in side for Scouting for those who like to BBQ instead of Dressing Like Indians or a Zoological Society for those who Like Animals instead of Dressing like Indians or a Civil War society for scouts who want to Dress like Soldiers instead or we could continue with just one Honor Society, adapt and allow the Youths to participate and Socialize. Embrace the Membership and Welcome New Membership with Fellowship, not just Hard Labor all the Time. National OA is always considering closing poor Lodges..there is a Reason Lodges Fail, just ask Membership who have stopped coming why they did. The biggest Reason BOREDOM

moosetracker commented #20.1 Today, 03:53 AM That is the first badge.. I have known scout to take a year or more to earn it, no one from council came around and told them they had to leave the troop because they were taking too long to earn the patch.. This scout might never earn it is all. It doesn't matter if he never earns it, no one can or will kick him out because of it !!.... I am sure that at some place, at some time BSA has enrolled a child that for mental reasons and/or physical reason could not ever complete the tasks necessary to earn the scout badge.. It might say joining, but once you sign the application, and pay your membership fee your a member.. Once council gets the paperwork processed you get the insurance.. You can go to summer camp and on any outing scout related.. No one checks you over and tells you to 'get out' because you have not earned the scout badge. There is no time limit... Period.. On the other hand the openly homosexual and atheist is more then just under the Undefined "Morally Straight" clause.. If that was the only place it was, BSA could not win court battles against people who are kicked out of scouting because of it. It is under things you agree to when signing the membership application, and they can kick you out for lying on your application. Last edited by moosetracker; Today, 03:56 AM. You Will Notice it Says BOY SCOUT JOINING REQUIREMENT not RANK REQUIREMENTS RIGHT? If This Is a Rank and Not simply Joining Why is there No Alternatives for Scouts with Learning and Physical Disabilities like Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class? You Know I went and Pulled up an Official Boy Scouts of America Application you Mentioned Both Youth and Adult..I looked There is Nothing about Religious Preference nor Sexual Preference on It...Can you post an application with those on it stating No Homosexual or Atheist? Excerpt from the Declaration of Religious Principle The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God and, therefore, recognizes the religious element in the training of the member, but it is absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward that religious training. Its policy is that the home and organization or group with which the member is connected shall give definite attention to religious life. Only persons willing to subscribe to these precepts of the Declaration of Religious Principle and to the Bylaws of the Boy Scouts of America shall be entitled to certificates of membership. Program Policies Chartered organizations agree to use the Scouting program in accordance with their own policies as well as those of the BSA. The program is flexible, but major departures from BSA methods and policies are not permitted. As a parent, you should be aware that • BSA adult registration is restricted to qualified people who subscribe to the precepts of the Declaration of Religious Principle, the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, and the BSA Standards of Leadership. • Citizenship activities are encouraged, but partisan political activities are prohibited. • Military training and drills are prohibited.Marksmanship and elementary drill for ceremonies are permitted. • While Boy Scouts of America recognizes the importance of religious faith and duty, it leaves sectarian religious instruction to the member’s religious leaders and family. • Members who do not belong to a unit’s religious chartered organization shall not be required to participate in its religious activities. The BSA Declaration of Religious Principles (Reprinted from the 1987 printing, 1976 copyright, of the Charters and Bylaws of the Boy Scouts of America. The "Declaration of Religious Principles" are found in Article IX, Section 1, of the BSA Bylaws.) The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizenship without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law." The recognition of God as the ruling and leading power in the universe and the grateful acknowledgment of His favors and blessings are necessary to the best type of citizenship and are wholesome precepts in the education of the growing members. No matter what the religious faith of the members may be, this fundamental need of the members should be kept before them. The Boy Scouts of America, therefore, recognizes the religious element in the training of the member, but is absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward that religious training. Its policy is that the home and the organization with which the member is connected shall give definite attention to religious life. ACTIVITIES. The activities of the members of the Boy Scouts of America shall be carried on under conditions which show respect to the convictions of others in matters of custom and religion, as required by the twelfth point of the Scout Law, reading, "Reverent. A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others." FREEDOM. In no case where a unit is connected with a church or other distinctively religious organization shall members of other denomination or faith be required, because of their membership in the unit, to take part in or observe a religious ceremony distinctly unique to that organization or church. LEADERS. Only persons willing to subscribe to these declarations of principles shall be entitle to certificates of leadership in carrying out the Scouting program. The Boy Scouts of America has a definite position on religious principles. The following interpretative statement may help clarify this position. The Boy Scouts of America: BSA Religious Principles (Reprinted from the 1992 edition of BSA's Advancement Guidelines: Council and District Functions.) Does not define what constitutes belief in God or the practice of religion. Does not require membership in a religious organization or association for enrollment in the movement but does prefer, and strongly encourages, membership and participation in the religious programs and activities of a church, synagogue, or other religious association. Respects the convictions of those who exercise their constitutional freedom to practice religion as individuals without formal membership in organized religious organizations. In a few cases, there are those who, by conviction, do not feel it necessary to formally belong to an organized form of religion and seek to practice religion in accordance with their own personal convictions. Every effort should be made to counsel with the boy and his parents to determine the true story of the religious convictions and practices as related to advancement in Scouting. Religious organizations have commended the Boy Scouts of America for encouraging youth to participate in organized religious activities. However, these same organizations reject any form of compulsion to enforce conformity to establish religious practices. If a boy says he is a member of a religious body, the standards by which he should be evaluated are those of that group. This is why an advancement committee usually requests a reference from his religious leader to indicate whether he has lived up to their expectations. Throughout life, Scouts are associated with people of different faiths. Scouts believe in religious freedom, respecting others whose religion may differ from theirs. Scouting believes in the right of all to worship God in their own way. Still Nothing Clearly Define about Atheist or Homosexuals... Got another Source you want to Quote as a Reference? Again we are Not Talking about Advancing..We are Talking about a Scouter agreeing to abide by the Boy Scouts of America Oath(Promise), Scout Law, Outdoor Code etc.. BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA ...have always left it up to Individual Leadership to decide if a Youth Lives up to The Boy Scouts of America Standards...Boy Scouts of America does Not Clearly Define because they want and Need Charter Organizations to Pay Money to them. Without Charter Organization Boy Scouts of America is Nothing except a Name. What would Happen If Units kicked out every scouter for Failure to Live up to their "Perceived Interpretation" of Boy Scouts Of America Rules...Scouters would leave and find a Unit they Liked..Simply Pay $1 to Transfer to Another Unit.

That is a Falsehood..it is a Recommendation. Boy Scouts of America can Not tell a Parent they Can not Tag Johnny Q. Public in their Own Photographs Youth Protection Rule Inappropriate use of cameras, imaging, or digital devices prohibited. While most campers and leaders use cameras and other imaging devices responsibly, it has become very easy to invade the privacy of individuals. It is inappropriate to use any device capable of recording or transmitting visual images in shower houses, restrooms, or other areas where privacy is expected by participants. Social media guidelines. The policy of two-deep leadership extends into cyberspace. Another adult leader should be copied on any electronic communication between adult and youth member. The Social Media Guidelines are just that guidelines. Keep in Mind...well some people Can....USE COMMON SENSE From Social Media Guideline As with any online site, it is highly important that you do not give out personal information about Scouts or Scouters to anyone on Facebook. Every effort should be made to help ensure that your fans and those Scouts and Scouters that use the Facebook page are protected. Keeping Scouts safe and keeping their private information safe should be the primary concern in any endeavor involving themâ€â€whether that’s keeping them safe on a camping trip or keeping them safe on the unit Facebook fan page. When creating a Facebook page, you should make it a public fan page. When creating a YouTube channel, your channel must be public. There should be no private groups.

First of All the Photos Belong to the Photographer Not to You Unless You Paid her to take Photographs. And then You get what was agreed upon by Contract For Commercial Use The Photographer has to obtain permission from Everyone in the Photo. If photos are to be Sold You Need A talent release. If you Post a Picture of someone without a Talent release form they can Request it be removed or Altered to not Show them Clearly or Request to get Paid..Every Watch those Reality Shows Where Faces are Blurred, it is Because they Refused to be Shown for free or Refused to shown Period. Does A Scout have to Sign a BSA Talent Release Form...NO. Simplest Solution: Request Multiple Photographers who will share photos. Best reason you get More Photos of a Wider Range of Subjects as Parents tend to Focus on their own Child. You also get more variety of Angles and Views. Plus More Photographers can be in more places at Once. I can tell you it is hard to take photographs over a 60 Acre Camp by yourself. Also Get a Volunteer Photographer Like Me who will take Photographs for free. When I post Pictures of Any Event I do not Tag anyone unless They Request it, I leave Tagging up to Parents or Guardians or the Individual. I also Remove from Public View any Photos that are requested simply because I can tell the Story minus a few Photos..I usually get around 1000+ photos per Event anyways. I will Use a Photograph without People in it, such as a Patch for the Event to Tag Adult Scouters making it easier to find for their Friends and Family Members. My Facebook Albums are set to Public..I will remove and report any inappropriate Posts and Bloke those People.

I doubt many Youths would go against the "Old Guard" and Rebel against the Tradition yet. Look how Many Years it Took to get Cub scout Leaders and Women in OA. I get yelled at at our events because I bring things up in front of the Youths. Seems It has to be a Youth Idea only. If an adult brought it up ( ie...ME. it is to be ignored and not Considered). I understand the Youth VOTE on All issues..adults are only there to serve the Youth. My Lodge is quite tight Lipped about stuff..and Rarely has anything for Members. I have been back since September 2011 and We just had our First Fellowship in Years..We Have Winter Ordeal, Summer Ordeal, Summer Camp Call Out (Free watermelon for members and Candidates afterwards, we cut up 8 watermelons this year), what a big expense), and throw in Conclave and NOAC. I offered to get a Holiday Pot-Luck Dinner together and was told Lodge could not have it because we could not afford it. How Can you not afford a Pot-Luck Dinner where people bring Dishes? I am about ready to see about transferring to another Lodge even if it is 150 Miles away.

I don't have a Problem with a JW Youth or anyone willing to abide by the BSA Rules. I simply said follow the Rules or don't join. If the JW wishes and agrees to follow the Rules then they can be a Boy Scout. I have simply pointed out where problems with a Devote JW would arise, Like it or not. I never said Disallow the Scout simply because he was a JW. I simply stated many reasons why a True Jw would not be able to participate in Scout. These Events include Flag Ceremonies, Christmas Parades, Veteran's Day Parades. Such as I pointed out many events a JW would not Participate in due to religious Beliefs. According to BSA Rules they would be require to attend events outside of regularly scheduled meetings. Second Class: Since joining, have participated in five separate troop/patrol activities (other than troop/patrol meetings), two of which included camping overnight.Participate in a flag ceremony for your school, religious institution, chartered organization, community, or troop activity. Explain to your leader what respect is due the flag of the United States. First Class: Since joining, have participated in 10 separate troop/patrol activities (other than troop/patrol meetings), three of which included camping overnight. Demonstrate the principles of Leave No Trace on these outings. Sit Down and List the Last 12 Months of Your troops Activities besides Troop and Patrol Meetings. List what your Troop has Done. Interestingly I find it kinda funny that after 1st Class attendance at Troop/Patrol activities seem no longer required beyond regular Meetings or Camp outs. Star :Be active in your unit (and patrol if you are in one) for at least four months as a First Class Scout.. A Scout Could Attend only 4 Camp out in that Time Frame, No troop Or Patrol Meetings Life: Be active in your unit (and patrol if you are in one) for at least six months as a Star Scout. Could just attend a Troop Meeting 1 time 6 Months Eagle: Be active in your troop, team, crew, or ship for a period of at least six months after you have achieved the rank of Life Scout. Scout attended 6 meetings in 18 Months Using the Logic Around here..You could say after 1st Class a Scout does not have to attend anything except Troop/patrol Meetings to be considered Active to advance since there is not a specific Number or defined number of events. Nor do they have to do it in Consecutive Months because it does not say it. Up until first Class it states activities other Than Troop/patrol Meetings and Limited the Number of Events allowed on Camping toward advancement. Camping Requirements are by Event not Days..So a 14 Day Trek at Philmont would be 1 Event not 14 AGAIN FOLLOW THE RULES OR NOT JOIN

Again I must ask WHY Do we want to continue to Separate the Memberships of all BSA Programs, Open Arms to Youth Members both Male and Female. Set Standards that can be Obtained by Both Males and Females. Yall Afraid Women will Start being elected to all the Youth Positions? Why Have More than 1 HONOR SOCIETY in Scouting?

I was looking at Making my own Custom Camp Trailer with a Solar system on it to run CPAP and a Nice comfy bed to sleep in due to bad back. My Council will not allow Trailers or RVs at Camp..their excuse someone may illegally dump waste. I just want a portable easy system nothing Fancy. I was Told that If You use a CPAP even a Battery operated one your not allowed in Backcountry at any BSA High Adventure any more. Does anyone Know if this is true?
