  1. I've read a couple posts about how units are doing away with neckers, felt an urge to comment. The multiple neckers in the Cub Scout Program is a little much. It is not cost effective and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why not just have all Cubs wear the yellow necker? The rank is on the pocket, it doesn't need to be on the necker, slide, hat, etc. One Cub Scout hat, necker and slide is enough and the boys look more uniform that way anyways. Thoughts?
  2. If you feed trolls they will get bigger. Mods, this merlyn has stated no interest in Scouting and is disruptive and counterproductive to the spirit of this site. I would suggest you remove him and allow this board to get back on track. To my fellow Scouters, ignore the troll and it will go away.
  3. I would welcome any former scout from the area that asked to attend a COH. If they wanted to wear their old uniform I would be all for it, as long as it still fit and looked good. They don't have to be registered to do so, they earned whats on their uniform and should wear it proudly. I think some people get too wrapped around the wording and nitpick the "rules" instead of looking for the meaning behind the rule. In this situation the rule exists so that leaders cannot operate a unit without registering first and so that leaders that would have been screened out cannot make their way into the unit. The rule isn't intended to pertain to former scouts, as unregistered adults they don't even have a "rulebook" to follow. If the adult is a leader and has the patch on his sleeve he had better be registered, but as an adult former scout still wearing his youth uniform and PL bars and not acting as a unit leader, they can wear their uniform without violating the spirt of the order/rule.
  4. Hello to all! I have been involved with Scouts most my life, from Tiger Cub to Eagle Scout. I took 10 years off while I was in the Marine Corps, then returned as an ASM, then SM and now District Commisssioner. I'm glad to be back and hope to meet like minded Scouters here.
  5. I have been increasing the load on the "boy" leaders since my return to the Troop last year. I was in the service and away for 10 years, so alot has changed since I was last involved with Scouting. Anyways I gave the SPL a few worksheets to use in planning a year of events for the Troop. He involved all the Scouts and it worked very well, but this part made me swell with pride. One of the new Scouts, who just came up from the Pack last year, stepped up and wanted to take on planning a recruiting Fun Day. I have never seen such interest it running the show from the boys. It just goes to show what a few motivated Scouts can do, give them the chance to fly and you will be impressed.
