  1. absolutely! we were in one pack for my sons tiger year (last year). had a good tiger group, wound up being 5 boys. one boy no one could stand (ok, that sounds really mean, but we're talking about this kid spitting on others) and no one could even deal with the dad. he "infiltrated" pack committee, stirred up trouble with our charter org. that didn't even exist and got a group to oust the cub master and the committee chair so he could be cub master and his friend committee chair. (all i gotta say is how bad does your life have to be that your "power play" is in a cub scout pack?) since we were moving one town over anyway (town boundries touching so not far) we changed packs (the first packs ousted cm is the asst. cm for the new pack) and the other 3 tigers moved with us. the problem dad called me up and asked if i was still involved with the pack (i had been on committee) or did i change. when i told him i switched packs he said "fine!" and hung up the phone. we are all so much happier and more involved in the new pack. it's an environment where people want you to be involved, don't criticize and actually thank you for helping out. it's more enjoyable for me and i think our boys are getting more out of it.
  2. the whole pwd makes you crazy! my son (wolf rank) actually won this year for den, 2nd in pack and is going on to district. i was totally shocked by this. my goal is to just not embarass ourselves. i had him do as much of the work as was appropriate for a child. i admit i did "fix" his wheels after he went to bed. (they were in very crooked so i put them in straight and superglued them.) i helped our pack with registration this year and we did have a few problems with "ilegal" cars. one used store bought wheels and a few others sanded them at an angle (tappered them). we had extra wheels on hand and those teams had to change their wheels before they raced. we did then have one dad who wanted his car back to fix it (even though it was legal with 3 wheels touching but it pulled to the side so it rubbed the whole way down the track and lost each time). he complained others were getting to "fix" their cars so why couldn't he. i had to explain his car was legal, others were illegal and that's why they had to be changed. this guy was so mad they took their car and left. i guess the whole point of this ramble is that there is always going to be those who cheat. if you have specific rules that state all 4 wheels must touch, that car should have been disqualified. as for proving who did the work, unless the child says he didn't do any of it there's not much you can do. we had the opposit problem with my son. since he won and we had done some sanding of the wheels (rules state you can sand to rough the finish, but not waffer thin them or angle or taper them) my son was upset and asked me if we cheated. fortunately our cm explained to him the difference and told him that we did not cheat.
  3. thanks! i was on scouting.org, but searching for the awards it couldn't find anything. i never thought to look under cubmaster. thanks again!
  4. our pack pays for bl earned at camp, and 2 bl per scout per year. any additionals are paid for by the parent (also additional items like the heritage award). we pay no dues and only have the popcorn fundraiser so it keeps things tight. i have no objection to limiting them for financial reasons. since i'm not paying the $45 dues i paid in our last pack, i don't mind picking up the tab for a few bl or awards.
  5. I am looking for the official guidelines for various cub awards and am stumped that they are not on bsa website (scouting.org). things like the 75th, cub scout outdoors, etc. why are these not listed? i can find them on various council or pack websites, but not "officially" if you know what i mean? should i call my council? as my son likes to earn all the extra stuff i try to keep up on this, and have set up a binder for our pack with information like u.s. heritage award, emergency preparedness, etc. for others. also, why does www.usscouts.org not work?
