2CubDad, There is one thing you must know. The Order of the Arrow was founded in 1915. The Cub Scouts was founded in 1930. When the OA was founded, Cub Scouts did NOT exist. Secondly, the Order of the Arrow, like Scouting in general, is meant for the YOUTH (Boy Scout Age). Thirdly, in order for an adult be elected, they MUST be a registered member of THAT SPECIFIC UNIT. Scenerio (fiction): Mr Daniels is a Member of Troop 123 as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Troop 123 is having their election tonight. An adult member of Troop 123 recommended Mr. Daniels to be called out at the OA ceremony. Troop 123 is sponsored by the local Baptist Church. Here is Mr. Wright, a Cubmaster of Pack 987. Pack 987 is sponsored by the local Catholic Church. Finish the story, how can Mr. Wright be tapped out if he is not a member of the Troop? Oh, by the way, in my youth, I served as my local Chapter's Secretary.

Since the Order of the Arrow is a program for the Boy Scout program, to my understanding, Cub Scout leaders cannot be tapped out (unless if they are dual registered with a Boy Scout Troop). FYI: I was tapped out as a youth (1990).

Believe it or not, a fellow Eagle Scout and Scouter from my town and I talk about this every once in a while. When I earned my Eagle, the stat was 2% of all Scouts. NOW, here in 2003, that was risen to 4% I am sure that the QuaNity -vs- QuaLity issue is a controversial issue.(This message has been edited by htc1992eaglescout47553)

I just recently obtained a new Eagle Scout Medal and I looked on the back and I saw the letters "CFJ". Out of curiosity, is that a type of metal (as in Certified Fine Jewel) or initials of the manufacturer of that medal?

I personally believe that the Neckerchief and Slide are a part of Scouting's legacy and should be kept on the uniform. I am somewhat saddened when I see not too many wear the N&S. Like I said before, they are a part of Scouting's legacy.

I know that the ESPK contains the following: * Eagle Scout Medal * Eagle Scout Cloth Patch * Eagle Scout Tie Tac * Eagle Scout Mother's Pin * Eagle Scout Dad's Tie Tac If it were up to me, the ESPK would have the Eagle Scout Adults knot (So the Scout would have his first knot when he becomes an adult). I with it would. What do you think?

About a year ago, I was doing some surfin on E-bay and I noticed some Eagle Scout CSPs. Even my own council does it. I just wonder how you all think about the ES CSPs? I personally think it is a good idea, BUT... I think that these councils need to have a "neutral" ES CSP (that is a CSP that does not tell the year of obtaining). I mean, I think that ES CSPs are an excellent way of recognizing Eagle Scouts from their own Council.

first of all, I am new here. Anyway, to let you of my opinion, It is my humble opinion that there are those who want to put too much focus on QuaNity than QuaLity. Nearly 50,000 Scouts made Eagle in 2002, but I just wonder if they are really worthy of that rank. I know I shouldn't judge these new Eagle Scouts, but if there is more emphasis of QuaNity, that would give those who earned Eagle YEARS ago the shaft. I just wonder if there is a "rubber stamp" idea here?
