How about Sea Badge training...........
HawkUH60 replied to GNX Guy's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
Great!! Its my understanding that sea scout leaders specific training which is a requirement for attending is usually given the night before since most councils do not usually give this course? YIS -

Hey Guy! Yeah I was surprised to see alot of seabadgers as well. I missed out on the one last April in GA. I am hoping this on in FL is a go and its somewhat close to me in NC. I was also thinking about going to the seabase conference center for a leaders conference in Jan. That place looks fun! Do you have any Sea Scout Leaders Speciffic training on power point? I looked on Scout Stuff and they do not have a CD or anything. -

Buffalo Skipper seemed to "be in the know" and said yesterday something would be coming out shortly. Hopefully its a go. I really want to attent. I have always been interested in Sea Scouting. thanks for the update. Now that I think about it i know someone from the interational conference i was at in June who is on the region SS staff. Pete Armstrong i think was his name. thanks again -

Yes the southern region. Yes I have contacted the POCs on the region site and have not heard from them in a long while. Just thought I would send out a message here since there are so many more well educated scouts out here that sometimes have better info then they guys in the echelon above reality. -

Does anyone out there "know someone" who might know if the November Sea Badge course is going to be held? The region site still lists it as (T). Sounds like a great training oppertunity. YIS -
This topic is like politics. No matter what you do people are going to criticize you. I am a believer you should were what you earned. For me its been a way to introduce people to the things I have done and show them that they can do the same. I only have 2 rows but people always ask me what they are for or what's a World Jamboree or OA...... I was not one of those kids who had a ton of merit badges but I made eagle and got a palm. Since then I have gone on to serve even while I was deployed in Iraq supporting the Iraqi Scout program. It is unfortunate to have people wearing stuff they didn't earn or as I have seen guys wearing the same knots twice or worse yet that guy who wears every single "dangle" Indianan bead necklace and "hey I showed up and got the badge, pin, or scarf"......oh well what can you do.

Docrwm OMG!!!! they give knots for that (LOL, I know they do). Next thing you know they will give one to people who give $$$....wait....I got one....never mind. Don't want people to think I am some rich guy going around buying knots LOL. I just discovered a new one on ebay....looks like BSA has semi professional speakers who can earn a knot. I will never understand why scouters get so territorial over awards and how many a person has. In the army I have 3 badges and 14 ribbons (some with multiple oak leaves) and no one gets bent out of shape about it like I see people do in scouting.

OK, Been to PTC Seen the PTC knot....seen the NESA life member knot, even the new commisioners knot but what the heck is a "Speakers bureau" knot?? take a look at item 140261133288 on ebay. What is the black and gold knot? BSA is getting so many knots they are going to need a Knot Division to keep track of them all.

Back at the end of June I got some of the jumbo NESA knots from a shop in FL, my own shop had no idea they were even coming. By the time my shop got the jumbo knots and i returned frmo Philmont they cut them up. Fortunally i got a few whihc will be a collectors item. I want to say sometime in July (my scout shop) got the corrected knots but They are still missing that "Look". You can tell they are useing a different company to make them.

ahhh yes the black beret.....fun stuff there. Its funny we couldnt wear them but when i was a recruiter, all the crap we gave away was all made in china. No one at Recruiting HQ wanted to address that issue. Guess its an evil we are forced to live with. On the topice of the BSA unirorm. I do have to admit the pants (new switchbacks) do look and feel more functional then the "PJ" style of the old switch backs. The new green shoulder loops are too big for the new shirt...you can tell from the ads but you would have thought someone would have caught that. I am convinced National is getting more screwed up every day. How can someone make a mistake like the recent Jumbo NESA knots and now they cant get the loops on the shirt the right size to accomidate the new dark green loops? How much did the NESA knot screw up cost BSA to fix?

I did a little time in UH-1s and Cobras when my guard unit had them. Great birds!

I was a chinook crew chief when i was enlisted but spent some time fixing hawks. Now I am a Medical Service Officer.
-
What really sucks about all the new stuff coming out is the big gold sticker "made in china" how much cheeper can BSA go with the new shirt? Iron on "BS of A" letters, iron on flag???? Its really sad to see how cheap BSA is going on everything now a days.

Leader Training Award Tips...
HawkUH60 replied to NobleUncas246's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
I have been told as far as tenure goes you can not double dip. For example, a Scoutmaster can not use his time for the Training Knot (2 years) and then incorporate that into the Scouters Key (3 years). It would take him 5 years to earn both, not 3. Now I have been told that if you serve in different positions your tenure runs concurrently. For example, I am a Unit Commissioner and Asst. Crew Advisor. I can earn my Scouters Key as a Commissioner and at the same time earn my Training award for Venturing because I am registered in two different positions. I dont see anything wrong with that. On the flip side I see many deserving scouters who because units dont know or its not pushed down from District dont get recognized with the just the basic awards. -
Hello I am new here....saw the message about the PTC knot. I was there in June (last week of June) and they announced the knot. in a nut shell you do have to go again and get 2 people to go...maybe 3. I do have the letter at home if you want I can scan it to you. shoot me an email at john.green3@us.army.mil. I also saw it on ebay today...looks kind of cubbie like...bright yellow with a red knot....New Mexico flag colors I like PTC but $1000 for registration and air fair is alot to ask of someone. I would assume its to try and get the attendence number up at PTC...if you wanted to get a knot you could always donate that $1000 to your councils James West fund...lol YIS
