SF: MOUNTAIN VIEW DAD LOSES NAME DISPUTE WITH BOY SCOUTS
Gold Winger replied to fgoodwin's topic in Issues & Politics
"His step-dad is his actual dad NOW!" Sorry, Ed but a step-father is not an "actual father" unless he adopts the boy. -

"Anyone who is opposed to choice with regard to the abortion issue " Don't you mean opposed to the wanton slughter of unborn children? The choice was made months earlier. -

HillBilly, you been dissed by an intellectual. I wouldn't worry about it too much, academics and intellectuals are like the lillies of the field, they toil not and neither do they reap. -
"Egad - neckties! Every now and then, the supply division does something right and dropping the necktie was one of 'em. I don't think I know a single Scouter who wears a necktie anymore with the uniform - in my opinion it looks rather archaic (but then my kind abhors suits!) Of course there are the professionals ..." Not anymore archaic than neckerchiefs or any sillier than cargo pants. I have one and I like wearing it. I have an 18 1/2 neck and I'm 6'2 and mine isn't too short. Ties do come in different lengths, you need to look for a longer one.

Chug asked, "Why do you refuse to wear the World Badge Gold Winger?" Partly because I respect what the emblem used to mean in BSA and parly because I'm not part of the New World Order.

The wool jack shirt is based on a traditional wool hunting shirt. Very warm and even keeps you warm if wet. I wear it camping but not hiking. For hiking, I have a rain jacket for wind/heavy rain, for warmth I wear a wooly-pully. Under that, if I need the extra layer, I wear a turtleneck. If it is really cold, out comes the old field jacket with a wool sweater under it.

"+ question whether his memory or observations were accurate. (Given some past statements by GW, a reasonable challenge.)" Hmmmm . . . so you're call me both senile and blind? Sheesh! As for the insults, you can only be insulted by something if it applies to you. For example, I don't find Italian jokes insulting because I'm not Italian. I may thing that they are insulting to Italians but I can't be insulted by them. Maybe Lisabob knows a better class of homosexual than HillBilly and I do. Most of the homosexuals that I've known were well educated professionals. Nice people, good hosts, generous but not monogamous. -

My problem with the whole idea of homosexual marriage is that I have known zero monogamous male homosexuals. Even if they were in a "committed relationship," they'd still pick up some strange if they could. -
I have never and will never wear a World Crest on my shirt. Don't really care about little Beavers and their bright eyes.

creepy (krp) adjective creepier, creepiest Informal. 1. Of or producing a sensation of uneasiness or fear, as of things crawling on one's skin: a creepy feeling; a creepy story. 2. Annoyingly unpleasant; repulsive: the creepy kids next door.

How soon is the COH? If it is next week or within a couple weeks, wait until then and let him be dressed as a Life Scout to receive his Eagle. If it is going to be months, put the patch on and let him be seen as an Eagle. Oh, better yet, ask him what he wants. After all, it is his badge and his honor.

help - item list for new camper
Gold Winger replied to legobryson's topic in Camping & High Adventure
ScottEng said it well about gear. The basics are always the basics. How will I eat? Can I see at night? Appropriate clothing for the weather is paramount. Little is worse than being cold unless it is being wet and cold. Warm sleeping bag is important, I like to wear a watch cap at night to keep my head warm. Spare/dry/clean socks, pants, and shirt. Very important. Forget the video games, PDAs, and Blackberrys. Simple first aid kit with band aids and common meds like pepto bismol and benedryl. -
I think I want to start a New Polictical Movement.
Gold Winger replied to TwoXForr's topic in Issues & Politics
"GW that's too good for them they have not done what a staff sgt does why give them the bennies that a staff sgt gets." They're doing the nation's business, that's just as important as what the staff sgt does. "Back on the soapbox they are paying $1600 per month to volunteer service members starting salary where are the unemployed from the hood when you need them?" What's your point here? Since they are "volunteers" should they get paid the same as I do for my volunteer work? Or are you saying that the boys from the hood should be signing up? If that's the case, do you want a bunch of gangsters or drug addicts in the Army? -

"A suggestion rather than term limits we make all Federal elective office no salary no benefit positions no lavish government provided health care, no pensions, no leased car, no expenses strictly pay your own way." I'll go with no salary but health care and the same housing and meal allowance that a Staff Sergent gets. Foreigners come here for an education? When I was in college, every foreigner that I knew was getting aid from our government. Let them go to school in their own country. -

Probably because so many earn Eagle right before they turn 18 so they feel slighted because they can't wear it. It's pretty simple, in Boy Scouts you become an adult at 18, just like in the real world you become an adult at 18 (for most things). So if you stay involved, you dress as an adult. Not too complicated.

Proably because the patient hadn't designated a significant other. -
I read the book to say that you shouldn't wear an old Jambo patch. However, I see more people wearing their old patches than not.
-
If we open the dusty pages of the insignia guide we'll find that it says "one current national jamboree patch above the right pocket and one current world jamboree patch on the right pocket." Is 1981 the current Jamboree? I leave the rest as an exercise for the reader.

" I'm in manufacturing and we've taken the hit so shareholders get a bigger dividend check." If it's your business, are't you one of the stockholders? So the hit that you're taking gets redirected into your own pocket.
