  1. Dang, you are right. I guess since I didn't make the top three, I just collapsed into a quivering jelly mass before getting to it. But this changes everything. Pardon me while I gloat. Like The Jerk, "THE NEW PHONEBOOKS HERE, AND I'M IN IT"!!!!!
  2. Pack, there's a fine line between being thick skinned and being a masochist. Which is it bub? GWD, I too sit as a quivering mass of jelly because I wasn't included in John's list. I take some solace in noting my inclusion in the "Most active recent contributors" box on the right from time to time. However, that could be construed as the "Get a Life Club" too!
  3. AHHHHGGG! The tension is killing me! Bob, let me answer for Merlyn so you can tell us why your question is relevant. Inquiring minds want to know! BobWhite:"66% really? how about that. And how many diffrent religions would say make up that 66%?" The answer to your question is 3. You gots your Muslims, your Jews, and your Christians. Now of course, there are lots of different Muslims and Jews and probably a thousand different Christian groups. But if you group them by the most basic theology, I'd say 3 monotheistic religions. Now PLEAZZZZZZE tell us why this is relevant?
  4. Hey, I always thought I got the short end of the stick John! Heard on the radio today that even with the quick action of the president and congress to pass this mess, some of us won't be seeing the checks until possibly July. So much for an emergency stimulus. Also, cycle racing school is in April so it won't do me any good there. Perhaps I'll use it for skydiving lessons in August. Paying off personal debt just makes this stimulus a payoff to the credit card companies. We really need to target our booty on the needy, like sky diving instructors.
  5. But if I take my "free" money and spend it, it will solve all the problems right? Lets see, $500 new racing leathers made in China and sold by an online merchant out of state. Retains maybe 20% in USA, China does good. Local economy doesn't get anything. Retailer gets to stay online for another day. UPS gets piece of the action. $300 Tuition in the racing school at the local track, 100% retained locally. The track instructor gets to eat for the weekend and the track owner can stay in business for another week. Life insurance guy gets $200 in increased premiums because I intend to kill myself on the track. Not sure how much commision he gets out of it, but that stays locally. The rest pays the country club fees for the executives somewhere in Conneticut. And all these trickle down benefits on the debt my children will inherit. Whata Country!
  6. Beware, if these scouts are transferring because the old unit didn't have enough adult support, don't expect any support from these parents. I sense a group of disgruntled parents who demanded that someone entertain their sons but wouldn't step up to help the unit. Edited:Timing is everthing, seems great minds think alike. 7. Yeah, Pack. That is the only real American sports car isn't it? I already have the crotch rocket aka Honda Interceptor. But I could use the coin to get some racing leathers and enroll at the track school. Might even have enough left to cover my life insurance premium that the ol' lady seems to think is important.
  8. Perhaps Voyageur is referring to ending his involvement in the Boy Scouts of AMERICA because America will exist in name only. Therefore the BSA will no longer be representative of the new American values and he cannot support it. Chin up though, the election is only 10 months away and several of the candidates (and one's a republican) talk of rolling back some of these civil liberty transgressions. The future's so bright, I have to wear shades.
  9. The SPL needs to talk to the scouts, the SM and CC to the parents. If these families are moving from one unit to another, it isn't the scouts doing the transferring, its the parents. Disgruntled scouts don't transfer, they just quit. Its the parents who try to keep them in by transferring.
  10. I'd certainly like to have a private talk with each of the adults that are transfering to find out why they are transfering. See if your unit has the same issues and if you should address them or at least set realistic expections of the transfering parent.
  11. But Lisa, Huck's son is an Eagle Scout. You'd think we'd all join hands in support of a fellow scouter!
  12. I think I might just sign the check over to Obama2008.
  13. Pack, I'll hike anywhere with anyone. But really, if you've never experienced the falls in Havasu, you really don't know what a waterfall can be. Envision a tight canyon with red sandstone walls rising 3000 ft on either side. At the bottom is an aqua blue river (I mean really bright blue) tumbling over travertine encrusted cliffs into deep aquamarine pools rimmed by calcium dammed ridges. Cottonwood trees line the pool edges creating an oasis of life in an otherwise desert landscape. http://artfiles.art.com/images/-/John-Gavrilis/Havasu-Falls-Grand-Canyon-Print-C10049702.jpeg
  14. TheScout, I find it hard to believe that if your neighbor maintained his house like those in Havasupai, you wouldn't complain about it?
  15. Anyone who has been to Havasu falls, Grand Canyon, Arizona has seen first hand what the local option gives. The area is run by the Havasupai and is not part of the Grand Canyon National Park system. The town of Havasupai is really stunning. Garbage fills the yards of the homes. Sewage runs down ditches next to roads. The locals don't make eye contact with hikers. Most homes have broken windows and most buildings are in disrepair. Really such a shame as the falls are probably the most beautiful in the world.
  16. Yeah, kinda funny that they have to go back 100 years to find a republican conservationist. The party of Ronald Reagan and George Bush is not the party that TR would have aligned himself with. TR was more like Gore than either of them.
  17. I agree Bob. Anyone who signed this anti-constitutional bill should be impeached. Violating the constitution is a much greater high crime than getting some from an intern.
  18. IMPEACH!!!! this message has been approved by GernBlansten, whoever he might be.
  19. Tazer Tag. Now that's a reality show I might just watch. Especially Celebrity Tazer Tag! Hey, tazers aren't mentioned in the G2SS, so it must be allowed too!
  20. Just got back from one. Mix of roasting and formality. The SM gave a nice roast, so did the youth minister and his dad. Then I got up and gave the Eagle Charge. Very serious and somber. A little of everything.
  21. Just change out the term "patrol" with "platoon" and it all falls together. Really though, laser tag is really just a high tech version of capture the flag. Now if you really want an aggression game, swap out the lasers with tasers! DON'T TAZE ME BRO!
  22. Well Pack, we are just sitting around the virtual campfire aren't we?
  23. My daddy always used to say, "Opinions are like rectums (he used another term), everybody has one, you don't mind hearing your own, and you certainly don't like hearing someone else's."
  24. Statistics can be sliced and diced to validate many points of view.
  25. This is sad. One of the biggest complaints I've heard about WB2K is that they don't do outdoor skills and rely on IOLS to give them. Now IOLS doesn't really practice it. So where does the new leader go for hands on skill training? Or is this a message from BSA that they intend to take the outting out of scouting?
