  1. >>How many lawsuits have there been against the BSA by the ACLU to for them to accept homosexuals?>How many lawsuits have there been against the BSA by the ACLU to remove various rights because they call BSA a "religious organization"?>How many lawsuits have there been against the BSA by the ACLU trying to make the BSA accept female youth memebers into Boy Scouts & Cub Scouts?>How many lawsuits have there been against the BSA by the ACLU to prevent them from using or leasing public land, even though leases and use are also being granted to religious organizations, and groups that restrict services or membership based on ethnic or sexual orientation?>And how many times has the ACLU defended any harrassment against the BSA...that one is really easy...not once.
  2. "If 3/4 of the states decide that you should have to wear purple to vote on election day....then that is the way it would be." Good luck getting the constitution amended to allow that. The difficulty in amending our constitution was designed to stop such frivolous acts. Even worthwhile amendments have been stymied. Think ERA. But what if it were a local jurisdiction that had a 99.9% majority that decided to deny blacks to marry whites. If the ACLU stepped in to stop that, would that be a travesty of justice?
  3. I don't think I'm mistaken. The ACLU engages in legal disputes to test the constitutionality of laws passed (by majority) and the way those laws are applied in real life. They do not challenge the constitution itself. If the super majority that you refer to is able to amend the constitution, it too would become a law the ACLU would protect. So be it. It is very difficult to amend the constitution as it should be. The idea that a majority should be allowed to create laws without challenge, is just mob rule. I for one am very glad there is an organization like the ACLU. I don't like every case they take, but I understand why they do it. Question for those ACLU bashers out there, can you name one case where the ACLU took a case that restricted or denied your civil rights?
  4. "The minorities have rights because the majority (judeo-christians) decided that it was right under God that they should!" And the minorites retain those rights because the ACLU fights to keep the majority (judeo-christians) within the laws of the US Constitution.
  5. "As much as they tout their "tollerance", the ACLU is not dedicated to helping or improving ANYONE's lives." I think those in the minority are grateful for the ACLUs help in defending their rights against the tyranny of the majority.
  6. Pack, I've never had a post deleted, but I did have one edited because I posted the full text of a Kinky Friedman song. I wonder if just responding to your post will put me in that fraternity. Only time will tell.
  7. Ed, Are you against civil liberties in general, or the just the organization founded to protect them?
  8. GW, please do not discredit my new faith, Jedi. Although I know you are ignoring me, I will use the Force to relay my message to you.
  9. Seems the scout over promised and under delivered. If he couldn't do everything he proposed, he should have submitted an ammended project plan.
  10. Jehovah's Witness' can't pledge allegiance to the flag. I don't see too many of them as COs or scouts.
  11. If I beat the dead horse the right way, it might move. Here's the rub. What if BSA is only doing a consumer check and not a criminal background check? Seems some people here think that is the case. Is that keeping our kids safe? Perhaps from bad debtors, but not convicted child molestors. And why even do the credit check to begin with? It has nothing to do with my position as a voluntary assistant scout master. I don't like anyone snooping up my skirt even though I do wear clean underwear.
  12. Ed, what credit criteria would BSA apply to deny an application? If they don't have one, why do the check? It they really want to be thorough, why not do a medical history check too? Wouldn't we want the most physically fit to take our youth into the wilds?
  13. I can understand requesting a credit check for anyone responsible for handling large sums of money, like a district or council treasurer. But for your pedestrian scouter who never sees the money, why? What is the cut off score?
  14. I bought two of the 29" at our scout shop. Top quality vinyl stickers. They have been on the trailer for 3 years with no peeling. Great value.
  15. Oh please Ed. You don't really think the BSA is using a credit rating to determine the fitness of adult volunteer leadership do you?
  16. Adult leadership void. Wanted my son to have a better scouting opportunity than I did. So I stepped up, got trained, became an ASM. Now a Venture crew advisor. Will stick that out until he loses interest or ages out. Enjoyed getting back in the woods. Dislike the politics and policies.
  17. GW, so your Honda GW was made in Ohio? I wonder where my Honda Interceptor was made? Tokyo? Am I still on Ignore?
  18. Just got back from the local Harbor Freight store. All cheap Chinese made tools for super discount prices. I rebuild classic German cars for a hobby and needed a couple of weird tools to do some weird stuff. I didn't want to spend big bucks a Sears or Snap-on for quality stuff, just needed a tool to do a specific task once or twice. I needed to remove a stubborn axle 36mm nut from a 68 beetle and broke my 1/2 drive breaker bar putting about 500ft/lbs of torque on it. So I needed a 3/4 inch drive one. Harbor had it for $13. Sears probably wanted $75. I chose the cheap Chinese stuff at harbor. About 30% the cost of the quality stuff, and might break the second time I use it, but if it lasts longer, all the better for me. For tools I want to last for my lifetime because I use them regularly, I'll spend the extra coin and get Craftsman or Snap-on.
  19. My son just returned from seabase. They did tall ship out of the Bahamas. He brought a cheap blue foam pad and fleece sleeping bag. They slept on deck every night. Everything he brought including snorkeling gear fit into a medium sized duffle bag. After returning, he said he wouldn't have brought the snorkel gear, the stuff they had was just fine. The one thing that saved him from the sun and jellyfish was a long sleeve (rashguard UV diving) shirt he wore the entire time. The boys who didn't, got attacked by both. I doubt a dry bag would be of much value.
  20. Outstanding! What was the ages of the scouts? Did the adult leadership also do it? No tents or sleeping bags?
  21. Gotta do a little Mia culpa. It was only $25,000 the MSP had to fork over to make the bath rooms at the airport arrest safe for all the republicans coming to the convention. http://www.startribune.com/local/11591011.html (This message has been edited by gernblansten)
  22. I thought I was on ignore GW? Anywhoo. They didn't seem to have a problem with the female bathroom stalls, just the male ones. At least those available to republican senators.
  23. My son is going to attend NYLT next week. I hope his experience is as good.
