The responsibilities of his job are irrelevant to the action taken.

Dynamite, Zoom, Puffed Wheat (shot from a cannon), Krumbles, Ruskets, and of course "I WANT MY MAYPO!".

The idea is not to withhold knowledge. Rather it is that one person can do one job and do it well. Try to add a second job and two jobs get done in a mediocre manner. Try to do them both well and your family suffers. Early burnout results. By the way, it's not permitted to hold a committee job and an assistant SM job (or DL job) in the same unit.

"... we have to admit the BSA didn't have a very successful summer." The boys in our troop had a GREAT summer.

Have any Chiclets?

Maybe Mr. Dinckler has some dynamite bait down in the basement of his hardware store?

I'd best get back to herding worms now.

The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle.

"Maybe it's time we just didn't take the bait? Good-bye jkhny. - I for one will no longer be responding to your negativity." Me too.

"Bob: Lighten up, will ya? " Regardless of which forum that guy JKNY posted his comments, the question of his purpose is valid. I see no other purpose other than another attempt to drag Scouting through the mud and to start an argument among the rest of us. I picture him sitting at his computer monitor grinning in glee at the negativism he starts and the rest of us perpetuate. So, anyone going to play along?

Scouts with Receptive/Expressive Disorder
FScouter replied to venice's topic in Scouts with Disabilities
"He plays games and talks to the other scouts, but won't fold his tent or eat the food they prepare." Is this related to his language disorder? He'd do better with the other boys if he would fold his tent and eat. -
"What is it you want these posts of yours to achieve?" Bears repeating.

"BALOO, as an example, must be completed within your Council. If you transfer to another Council, for whatever reason, you would have to retake it." Why?

I dont want to write a long dissertation about the mission, aims, and methods of Scouting. Just briefly though, we do want to build character and citizenship in the boys we guide through this program. Part of that involves teaching boys to work within the confines of our society. Families, groups, communities, and nations function at their best when everyone follows the standards, guidelines, and rules agreed on by the group. Uniform is one of the eight methods of Scouting. We may or may not like that method, and we certainly wont punish boys that dont wear the uniform. But it is just plain wrong to establish troop policies that ignore or modify the program of the group to which we belong and have promised to follow and support. Supporting a plan, even a boy-devised plan, that conflicts or ignores part the BSA program is just plain wrong. The unspoken message kids will learn is that it is OK to ignore parts of group rules we dont like. It teaches the wrong thing to our boys and that is not building character. Wear it or dont wear it. But dont formalize a policy against it in the name of boy leadership.

"Are there any other troops that only wear the class A? Do other leaders find this unusual?" To answer your question directly, yes, our troop wears the regular uniform for meetings and the activity uniform for activities. I don't find it usual that at T-shirt is worn for meetings. You can start changing your troop's practices by wearing the uniform yourself and encouraging other boys and adults to do so as well. Surely the troop SM and committee have not directed the boys to NOT wear the uniform, or have they? Surely there would be no objection to anyone choosing to wear the uniform?

Retaining sails and dropping anchors

As sst3rd said, theres more to the story, and there always is. The SM is holding up the conference and the dad wants it to happen. Being involved in other responsibilities is not really much of a reason to keep a boy waiting. The dad may be guilty of other things, but insisting that the SM conduct the conference doesnt seem out of line. Neither the dad nor the boy are delaying the advancement. -
"Why are the same guys who are the most anti-gay also the most in love with Oscar DeLaurenta's fashion sense?" I give up, why?
-
"At least one district or council advancement representative shall be a member of the Eagle board of review, when conducted at the unit level ...". (From the Advancement Committee Policies and Procedures booklet #33088D.)

Many believe that the Arrow of Light award marks the end of Cub Scouting. That's only true if a boy waits the the very end to earn it.

Come you masters of war You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build the big bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks You that never done nothin' But build to destroy You play with my world Like it's your little toy You put a gun in my hand And you hide from my eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain You fasten the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I'm young You might say I'm unlearned But there's one thing I know Though I'm younger than you Even Jesus would never Forgive what you do Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand o'er your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead

There's something happening here What it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind What a field-day for the heat A thousand people in the street Singing songs and carrying signs Mostly say, hooray for our side Paranoia strikes deep Into your life it will creep It starts when you're always afraid You step out of line, the man come and take you away I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down

Google hits. What a novel way to support one's position. Hey Fred, could you find and post a newspaper article regarding the statistical relevance of Google hits?
