  1. Posted on another Scouting related site: I was forwarded a link to the web site scoutface.com It looks very good, so I forwarded it to our MIC 2008 tech people asking them to check it out. The response I just received is below. Bruce, This appears legit but IS A SCAM. Looking up the server/hosting information for scoutface.com revealed connections to a major scammer on the web. Whois information: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=scoutface.com Vasile Varzariu, the originators own blog titled Sex, drugs and php at htpp: //pozaru.com/blog/ The folks adding names, information and photos may be legit but the host is not. Their tech phone # is linked to many on-line scams. Here is one: Easy-Trasnsfer, Inc www .easy-transfers.net MAKE NO MISTAKE WHO THESE THUGS ARE. CROOKS, CRIMINALS, SCUMBAGS TARGETING THE UNEMPLOY, ELDERLY, STUDENTS, STAY-AT-HOME MOMS, RETIREES, AND THE INNOCENT. LURING THEM INTO CASHING FRAUDULENT CHECKS http://joewein.net/fraud/fraud-job-2006-08.htm http://www.scamfraudalert.com/f37/easy-trasnsfer-inc-www-easy-transfers- net-1100/ This site states the tech contact is a porno spammer: http://www.webservertalk.com/archive154-2005-8-1168369.html I would recommend skipping this one. 3. My comment is that you don't need any more volunteers. The troop already has a Scoutmaster, a fundraising person, an outings person, an equipment person, and a webmaster. Why fill positions that are already filled? If those positions were not already filled, I'd go to the troop committee chairman and insist that he select and recruit individuals to fill those positions, which is his most important function.
  4. "Can I require such a boy to attend our meetings (at least half of them), and go on at least one campout per quarter, to fulfill the scout spirit req." It would be useful to read the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook that talk about Scout spirit: 47, 108, 164, 170.
  5. "However, Joan Baez does a much, much better rendition then Rod...." Joan does the Dylan song. The Rod Stewart song was a(in my opinon, poor) rewrite of Dylan, which eventually led to his paying royalties to Dylan. Joan Baez does good performances of Dylan songs. Dylan I think did his best on the Planet Waves album.
  6. Wouldn't it be grand if it was the council down the road that awarded the SB?
  7. Write it in ALL CAPS on the pack permission slip.
  8. Declaring "THIS IS NOT A PACK EVENT" proves they know they're out of bounds. It's a people problem, training doesn't teach what they seem to lack. Sending your boy means you agree, at least that is what your boy will learn.
  9. Part of what the SM might think about is why it was OK for a Scout to hold a position for 1 year without doing the work. It's not a government job you know.
  10. The answer may lie in discovering why 16 year old boys find no interest in the troop program. Will making a rule pique their interest?
  11. Tell them if it looks like a duck, nobody is fooled.
  12. "I just heard my District and possibly Council is considering ..." This sounds like nothing more than one of hundreds of thoughts that come out a brainstorming session of a training committee, or a parking lot after-meeting. Thousands of ideas get run up the flagpole, how many are adopted?? Open discussion helps folk coalesce thoughts and ideas. Reading all these responses, I find it far more disturbing anyone would take a simple rumor and believe it to be a mandate from the evil empire.
  13. You might try looking in the Camping/Equipment forum. Or do a search for keyword "daypack".
  14. As you stated the requirement, "Must have completed Wood Badge for the 21st Century ...". The 1994 course was completely different.
  15. You'll have to ask the staff person to tell you where that info came from so you can read more about it.
  16. The Cub Scout Award can be earned by any registered pack leader. Other Cub Scout awards are for specific registered positions: Tiger Cub Den Leader Award Cub Scout Den Leader Award (Wolf/Bear) Webelos Den Leader Award Cubmaster Award Pack Trainer Award The Scouting.org link provided by SctDad is current, correct, and official. Other internet sites may or may not have correct or current infomation.
  17. The G2SS requirement is the pack overnighter be held at a council-approved location. Maintaining and providing a list of approved sites is a responsibility of the volunteer council camping committee. If you want to go somewhere not on the list, it needs to be inspected first to see if it meets the standards. A significant portion of the BALOO training is devoted to health and safety including bathroom facilities and potable water. Water must be available; bottled water may be brought in if water is not available at the camp. Also part of the BALOO training is the council site approval standards. You should have received a copy of the inspection form 13-508 (one of the 27 BALOO handouts).
  18. We do have a lot of experts in the forums. Commander McBragg comes to mind.
  19. Thanks guys. It's always helpful to know what the other guy posted is ridiculous and a bunch of hooey. So I suppose we can just consider that one cancels the other and make a mental note to ignore both.
  20. "I'm sure that this one will be moderated." Not likely. It doesn't contain any foul language, doesn't disparage any other forum members, and doesn't seem to be an attempt to pick a fight.
  21. I was really looking for some ongoing and current examples of BSA not abiding by the law that would support the "distinct camp" of BSA critics mentioned by Dan Kroh. If there are none, that's fine. The Pikes Peak thing, while current, appears to be flub by one council. However, if there is knowledge of a widespread practice supported or known by the national council to submit CDBG applications with false information it should be brought out in the open. BSA has been rechartering school based units for some time now; I don't know if there are any left. The Atlanta membership problem has been resolved, no? Are other councils presenting fake numbers to United Way? I'm sure there will always be a "camp" that opposes BSA on the principal of membership policies and that is fine. I do take issue though with a characterization that BSA does not abide with laws.
  22. Before decide on Rod Stewart, check out the real Forever Young. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il-WqilLCPM May God bless and keep you always, May your wishes all come true, May you always do for others And let others do for you. May you build a ladder to the stars And climb on every rung, May you stay forever young, Forever young, forever young, May you stay forever young. May you grow up to be righteous, May you grow up to be true, May you always know the truth And see the lights surrounding you. May you always be courageous, Stand upright and be strong, May you stay forever young, Forever young, forever young, May you stay forever young. May your hands always be busy, May your feet always be swift, May you have a strong foundation When the winds of changes shift. May your heart always be joyful, May your song always be sung, May you stay forever young, Forever young, forever young, May you stay forever young. -Dylan
  23. "I told you not to open that can... " Well, now that it's open, a good place to explore it in depth would be a spin-off topic in the Issues forum. That will save this topic for discussion as indicated in the topic title.
