  1. If you're a troop committee member, there's chapter 6 "Troop Finances" of the Troop Committee Guidebook. If you're a Scoutmaster or assistant, there's chapter 19 "Troop Finances" of the Scoutmaster Handbook. If your a Cub Scout leader there's a chapter in the Cub Scout Leader Book. All of them point to the Unit Money Earning Application.
  2. "Washington was very unpopular in the depths of the Revolution. Madison was hated in 1812. Lincoln was not liked very much in the Civil War. Truman had dismal approval ratings during Korea." Maybe folks just don't like war.
  3. Take a look at the PDF flyer lined by Eagle 92 on page 23 of this topic. The blue Cub Scout uniforms all use the red & white unit numbers. The only uniform that uses the new green numbers is the new uniform. Old uniforms use old numbers; new uniforms use new numbers. There is no need to switch numbers.
  4. "And BSA insurance will NOT cover you if you screw up and not follow BSA policy." Where can we get a list of all the things that are not covered? Why is this not stated in the G2SS nor the annual charter agreement, nor the web site, nor the Troop Committee Guidebook, nor training? Why does the DE stutter and stammer when asked about it?
  5. "There is an appeal process and some other things that are being done, and I have no doubt that he will be awarded the rank of Eagle, but if we can prevent this from happening to others, it'll be worth the effort. " OK, the problem is a board that improperly denies advancement, forcing an appeal with the result of being overturned. What is the best fix for that problem? Assign a coordinator to help the Scout navigate the improper hurdles placed by the board? Or insist that the board to behave themselves?
  6. The manufacturer goofed and is replacing all the knots at no charge. Sorry to disappoint you guys.
  7. Another stump the idiot Scout question is "what are the three parts of the Scout Oath?" to which there is no answer or discussion in the Handbook.
  8. If the complaint is that the COR/CC is revoking memberships and removing leaders and removing members, the folks to talk to are those of the chartered organization. The council exec and district exec might offer assistance or advice to the CO, but its up to the CO to deal with its COR/CC. If your unit commissioner is not being helpful, its fair to ask for a new one. That the individual also serves in district positions is not relevant, except that a unit commissioner should never be registered in a unit position for the unit he serves as commissioner. None of those district positions, including unit commissioner, have any authority over a unit.
  9. There is no concurrency clause stated because unlike the Scoutmasters Key, the Keys for Venturing, Varsity, and Skipper do not additionally require earning the Training Award with its 2 years tenure. None of the Keys require earning the Training Award except the Scoutmasters Key. Required tenure: Varsity Scout Coachs Key 3 years Skippers Key 3 years Commissioners Key 3 years Venturing Advisors Key 3 years Scoutmasters Key 3 years, not 3years for the Key plus 2 years more.
  10. In years past the uniform was made in the U.S. and at a fair price. The Scouting consumer bellyached loudly at miniscule price increases. Look at the hundreds of posts in these forums complaining about the "high" price of uniforms, and the many suggestions to buy lookalike pants from Walmart (not made here either). The consuming public DEMANDS goods from China. It's plain silly to blame BSA, or any distributor or retailer for the failure of the U.S. manufacturers to stay in competitive business.
  11. Ethical choices come from within, using your brain, applying principals, morals, character, and knowledge. Ethical choices need no rules or guidelines to limit choices.
  12. "Headgear. All troop members must wear the headgear chosen by vote of the troop/team." -Uniform Inspection Sheet 34283A
  13. I don't think there is even one clothing supplier left that still manufactures in this country.
  14. The Troop Program Resources book has one or two suggested plans for courts of honor.
  15. What you posted is one of several re-written adaptations of the final sentence of an essay written by Dr. Forest E. Witcraft titled "Within My Power". It's a great essay. Have you ever read it?
  16. I rather think the Scouting consumer threw out the tradition when they quit buying them. National Supply simply went along with it.
  17. From the Leadership Training Committee Guide, (referring to all program areas): Tenure used to earn one key or award cannot be used to earn another key or award, unless otherwise noted in the award requirements. The only award that is so noted is the Scoutmasters Key. There is no similar notation for any Sea Scouting or Varsity award.
  18. it would seem that since they have specifically made allowance for concurrence in the case of certain awards The Scoutmasters Key is the only award that allows using the tenure from another award, specifically the Boy Scout Leaders Training Award. The reason is very simple. The Scoutmasters Key is the only award that requires the Boy Scout Leaders Training Award to be earned as one of the requirements. Three years tenure as a Scoutmaster is required, and two years of it is from the Boy Scout Leaders Training Award. If separate tenure was required, it would take five years tenure to earn the Scoutmasters Key. Thus the concurrence, ONLY for the Scoutmasters Key.
  19. If the district were to hold a recruiting event, all the packs could take part. If there is no district event, each pack is left to do their own recruiting, and the protestant pack is holding their event at their own chartered org church. Should be no problem with that. Would it be more fair for the protestant church to hold their recruiting event at the Catholic church? Now THAT would be inflammatory!
  20. If the requirements are met one earns the award. If not, there is no award. Its not a penalty if one doesnt meet the requirements.
  21. "Thank your DE or whoever told him that delusional goal for making me laugh this morning. Good grief! Sometimes these people in Irving are worse than politicians and ..." The goal is to have the professional DE's wearing the new uniform by February.
  22. There's a supply of the cards in the Troop Leadership Training syllabus. They're a condensed version of the 1-page position descriptions from the old Scoutmaster's Junior Leader Training Kit.
