Black pants is not part of the Scout uniform. Black may be traditional for funerals, but frankly, black pants will look bad with a uniform shirt and sash. The boys will look rag-tag, like Scout wanna-bees, not real Boy Scouts. They'll look like Scouts on the top, and street boys down below. Real strange, and just plain silly. If a boy owns a pair of official Scout pants, he should wear them. It is never proper to tell a Boy Scout he must substitute something else for the real thing. It's more important that each boy wear as much of the uniform that he has. That's a lot more important than having them all look identical. Ed, I'm surprised that you would take a position like that. I thought you liked the official uniform?! Explain how identical is better than some Scouts with a complete uniform and some missing some part. Explain why it is OK under any circumstance for a leader to direct Scouts to substitute street clothes for uniform parts.

The Boy Scout Pioneering merit badge book has plans for bridges. I've used the single trestle design, modified a bit so it works indoors. The boys build it themselves.

All together now ... Sampson was a fighter of the Bob Fitzsimmons school. He slew the Philistines with the jawbone of a mule. A lady barber cut his hair so runs the anecdote, And the copper came and ran him in and got his nanny goat.

The trouble with looking "uniform" with non-uniform parts is that the uniform that is worn is reduced to the lowest common denominator. If all the boys except one have Scout belts, should they all remove their belts for the sake of uniformity? If one boy has only a shirt, a hat, and nothing else, do the rest of the boys take off their neckerchiefs, socks, and pants so they can all match? A boy should not be discouraged from wearing his complete uniform just because some other boys are incomplete.

We have a new SA in our troop. His singing is so bad he scares away the coyotes. Turns out he knows the "Boy Scout Sunday School" from his old days too. Between he and I, we make enough noise to frighten the bears into the next county. I love campfire songs. Adam was the first man that ever was invented. He lived all alone and never was contented. They made him out of mud in the days gone by, And hung him on the fence in the sun to dry.

Joshua played the trumpet, so runs the ancient rhyme. He taught the Israelites to play in syncopated time. But when they played in Jericho, their music raised a frown, So he set the boys to swinging, and the walls came tumbling down.

Consider too that it takes more than one person to have a brawl resulting in police involvement.

A group of Scouts look great when they boys all wear the same uniform parts. They should try to coordinate to the greatest extent as long as they don't try to coordinate street clothes. If one kid has uniform pants and the rest don't, he should wear his pants, even he if doesn't match the rest of the boys. Do like Bob says and wear the most complete uniform you have.

In Section I, Youth Protection and Adult Leadership, the G2SS says in bold print "Two-deep leadership. Two registered adult leaders or one registered leader and a parent of a participant, one of whom must be 21 years of age or older, are required on all trips and outings." A PLC meeting is not a trip or outing. A troop meeting is not a trip or outing. I haven't seen anything in any Scout publications that say two-deep leadership is required for all activities.

Solomon was a wise man, as wise as he could be. He taught the Baptist Sunday School like our old man John D. He used to cut the babies up to keep the family small, And when he died he didn't have a thousand all in all.

Pharaohs daughter Miriam had a most bewitching smile. She found the baby Moses in the rushes by the Nile. She took him to her father who said That's a likely tale, It's just about as probable as Jonah and the whale.

Noah was a mariner and sailed around the sea, With half a dozen wives and a whole menagerie. He tried his hand at fishing so the Bible tale confirms, But he didn't have much luck because he only had two worms.

Joseph had a coat of many colors which he wore; His brothers hadn't any and it made them awful sore, So they took him out walking and they threw him in the sewer, Then they sent him down to Egypt-land to take a little tour.

... Please check your chewing gum and razors at the door, And you'll hear some Bible stories that you never heard before. Ohhh ...

Oral Presentation of Eagle Project
FScouter replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Open Discussion - Program
The oral presentation idea almost sounds like a board of review. -
There is no relationship at all between a Troop and a Venturing Crew. They are completely separate units.

How to Get to Philmont
FScouter replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
You can get on a Philmont bus from Raton. -
dsteele? Do you have a POC for Great Trails, MA?

dsteele has a better reference that I. The Training Guide lists only training related awards. The Insignia Guide lists a lot more, and discusses exactly how to wear them.

The chartered organization does own the troop, including the money and equipment. They may not understand that, but that is where the ownership lies. If the troop does indeed terminate, just decide how you want to distribute the assets and keep the CO and chartered org representative informed. Maybe you could distribute to the troops that are receiving the boys.

While the pictures and descriptions at that website are fine, some of the requirements listed for earning the awards are out of date. The latest requirements can be found in the Leadership Committee Training Guide #34169F, available at the Scout Shop. The book also includes the pocket award applications.

How to Get to Philmont
FScouter replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
Greyhound goes from Colorado Springs to Cimmaron. Amtrak has a bus that goes from Colorado Springs to Raton. From there you can hop on the Philmont bus. Your registration packet should have a list of about 37 different carriers that will get you there from anywhere. What training are you planning to take? I might be going too. -
Adding to what BobWhite said, I would add that the nature of a position does not determine whether it is primary or secondary. The volunteer has a primary registration in the position he/she wants to spend the most time. Any other position is considered secondary. (Actually it is termed a "multiple" position.)

How do you list all your destinations and dates for the entire year on one tour permit?
