Help Sears donate $136,935 to the Boy Scouts of America
frank10 replied to Royoballa's topic in Open Discussion - Program
BP, Spam yes, scam no. It's members only. They have been sending me info on it for the last two months. You can turn off their emails/offers/spam anytime. I'm a member because they give me back points for all my business tool purchases. I know they get something out of it too but since I am spending my $$ there anyhow, I might as well get some back. -

I voted. It wasn't painless but it is worth it. only 12 votes behind the leader now. You can vote every day. -
I like The Lorax by Dr Seuss.

Any change to the Rifle MB requirements would be to make it harder. To make it any easier than it all ready is they'd have to allow the scout to poke holes in the target with a pencil!

That's an easy one for me... Stop charging my scouts more than the public for their subscription. A quick search right now finds it for $11.66 at http://www.magazinenook.com/21-boys-life.html BSA charges my scouts $15 ... A Scout is thrifty. A bit insulting.(This message has been edited by wingnut)

Not sure if it's every thing I'd though it would be, but that's mostly because I had no idea what to expect. No one holds transition classes for going from boy scouts to cubs. I've been in Scouts since '78 or '79 never was a cub. As for fun I had plenty as did all the boys... How ever, a few of the parents aren't so sure of me after hearing me belt out 5 verses of "Ain't Gonna Rain No More No More" with my son. It was a bit out of tune but I'm blaming it on the garage, to much echo and it adsorbs the high notes or something like that. Need a shower stall to get the acoustics right anyhow. *A Peanut sat upon the tracks his heart was all a flutter, along came the 2:15 Chew-chew peanut butter... *Rich girl uses hair cream, Poor Girl uses lard, my girl uses Axel grease it comes out just as hard... *Mary had a little lamb, the doctor was surprised. When old McDonald had a farm he couldn't believe his eyes... *Rich man drives a Cadillac A poor man drives a ford, My old man comes round the block with 4 wheels and a board... *I went to see my Girl Friend, her favor I was seeking, I misses her lips and kissed her nose and the gosh darn thing was leaking... Did I miss any good ones? May be next time I'll treat them to Dunderbeck

I held my first den meeting (Tiger cubs). The last 25 years I have had to work hard to resist getting up in front of the Boy Scouts and taking control of the meeting, now I'm the Tiger Cub Den leader and that's my job. Gut keeps telling me to ask which of the cubs is SPL and tell him to run the meeting.

Got to say, I'm a bit afraid. I've read the original Jungle Books and know who the tiger is. It was the tiger that brought death to the jungle. He may kill man once a year with out fear. I just hope that night doesn't come on a pack night... (Summery - http://www.kipling.org.uk/rg_fearcame1.htm ) (Full Text - http://www.kellscraft.com/junglebook/junglebook03.html ) Now, my new tiger cub gives me a hug and kiss each night, but I still lock the door while I sleep (grin).

I'm with Alton Brown on this... Only one "Uni-tasker" allowed in the kitchen. I use channel locks. Why carry an extra tool that only has one use. (The only "Uni-tasker" that Mr Brown allows is a fire extinguisher.)

AlamanceScouter: I hope so. I've always said the purpose of Cubs must be to make sure the troop is never too big. They start with 12 tigers lose two to end up with 10 wolfs, two more for 8 bears, 6 webelos I, 4 weblos II and then cross over with 2 new scouts and complain that I can't provide their sound with a real patrol program. Now I'm them... Time to put up or shut up. Scoutfish :"you know what you did when you used to do it." I never did it. I joined at the end of 8th grade, Earned Tenderfoot, shattered my hip at the Klondike Derby, two operations and two years on crutches kept me from advancing but didn't keep me from camping. Turned 18 and signed on as ASM. (up to SM, back to ASM and then CC and Round table Comish). Zero time as a cub or cubber.

I've been a Scouter for over 25 years. I have a closet full of uniforms with red tabs. They have been so much a part of my life I feel like I should have them tattooed om my shoulders by now. But the time has come to change. No, not to green but to blue. As of next Friday I will be re-tabbed as a brand new Tiger Cub Den Leader. I recall my younger days when I thought I know it all. I am now older and wiser but have noticed that while I may not think I know it all, most of the younger folks assume I do. Strange feeling sitting in on a meeting (Pack Committee) and knowing for sure that I don't know anything! On top of that It doesn't help any that my ADL looks like she is 20 years younger than I am. Some of them red tabbed shirts just might be older than she is. Does she even know who the Beatles are? (Yes, Paul McCartney was in a band... No, before Wings.) On the plus side, as CC for the troop, I know where the Den Chiefs are kept. I don't have to wait for one to come find me.

Taking a guest to weekend camp

I don't know the official BSA answer, how ever, we never miss a chance at this. I hand him an app to fill out "just for the files, Not that you are joining now or anything like that, but we need it for your address and such". I like to set the hook as soon as I can and I'm not into catch and release. Edit to fix minor typo.(This message has been edited by Wingnut) -
SSScout: you can find the info at http://scout.org/en/around_the_world/countries/national_scout_organisations/some_statistics But as I stated above, the data for the US only covers the BSA.

John, The army wears their flag patch such that it looks correct while moving forward. The Scouts wear their flag patch such that it looks correct while spinning clockwise.
-
If I recall correctly, the states are a bit misleading, the US stats do not include the Girl Scouts where as Indonesia has a single program for both male and female scouts.

OGE: Way back on Page 2 you posted " What do the reast of the moderators think? I guess I could put this in the Moderators Lounge, but perhaps it would be a good idea to have the community see our opinions. Do we let the boys continue to squabble and get in the way of a discussion? Do we close the discussion because two can't behave? Do we do something to the two who can't behave? I am out of answers and am tired of complaints from forum members asking me/us to control either one of these guys Let me know guys " ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So, any ideas yet? Did the mods throw their collective hands up? Is it solving it's self? Well Sheriff Does that star mean anything after all?

Basementdweller: If it makes you feel any better, I (along with most of the folks here) would have done the same thing. Most of us have and many of us will again. My line for some one like this is "If I knew your pride and honor were only worth $150, I'd have bought you years ago."

"My DE doesn't know and told me he doesn't have the time to put this together." Somehow I get the feeling his number is below 12%. Just a hunch.

PULL IT!

Not sure why you would need a tour permit to stay at your CO.
-
RF: you need to be careful here with this one, sure, he seems OK but next thing you know he'll be telling his 16 year old friends and they'll want to join too and when the younger kids see them camping and having fun your programs gets crowded. Suddenly you adding patrols... Oh wait never mind let him join.

It's back, I remember posting to this back in 2005. ------------------------------------------------- I can't see an end. I have no control and I don't think there's any escape - I don't even have a home anymore. Definitely time for a new keyboard.

Are Pit Toilets/Outhouses acceptable for Pack Campouts

Pack: I make no statement either way, this is just a logic problem for me. Too many years of years as a comp sci / Electrical engineering student will do this to you... Trevorum: Many things are beyond the grasp of a child. For example, a child may not be able to understand that a dog needs to be put down after an attacking a third mail man, an adult would understand that the risk of not doing so could be too great. Again, not saying your wrong, only that your method of arriving at your conclusion is flawed.
