  1. "I never understood that big deal over the stars anyway, those with superior written skills and masterful rhetorical presentation were recognized while base cellar dwelling intellect was soundly rewarded as well." And I always thought it was the envelopes stuffed with small unmarked bills... ;^)
  2. Now it has all become clear. He is opposed to business, obsessed with philosophy, believes that principles should not be compromised and is opposed to the boy scout program. Sounds like a communist to me.
  3. "Can I direct your attention to the Post: Socrates, Culture defines Politics. In the reply field, there is a synopsis of Antonio Gramsci and the socialist ideas of transforming the culture to change politics." Yes, I am quite sure that Antonio Gramsci focused on expanding the role of Den Mothers to promote the world wide communist conspiracy. "We see here the transformation of ideas in order to transform churches and institutions, to serve socialist modalities." And Den Mothers have destroyed the churches using evolution. "As further proof that I am gettting hot is that I can no longer able to access sites linked to this website. George Orwell is proud of you. You guys do a good job. Just think if I am able to read other stuff that is now hidden---what other things shall we uncover!?!" I don't think I would say you are getting hot, delusional perhaps, would be getting warmer. "Only, Cockroaches hide in the dark. Truth seeks light, Evil darkness." Please, don't be so hard on yourself. You know not what you do...that does not make you the evil cockroach of darkness. You are just a bit out of touch.
  4. Evolution simply means change. But according to WHEELER, evolution is an evil word as opposed to the magic words like masculinity. In the thread he started on evolution, he demonstrated his absolute ignorance of what evolution actually entails. His scouting threads continue to show that this man does not really understand much of what he is talking about. Cub scouting is all about the boys and their families. It is pretty obvious that he doesn't spend much time around pinewood derbies, blue and golds and den meetings. Yes, women are involved in the Cub program in ways that were not allowed when I was a cub scout. I have worked with plenty of women that have contributed to the proper character development of these boys. Something WHEELER has never done and is not suited for by temperment or experience. Perhaps it is all jealousy or misplaced rage. Whatever the case, the "contibution" of this poster is all negativity. I am praying for him and I suggest that all of us do the same. Maybe he can find something positive to do with his energy. I am hopeful that it has nothing to do with scouting we really don't need his kind of help.
  5. There are a couple of different knots that are referred to as friendship knots. This first link is for a chinese sqare knot or ten knot because the cross on one side looks like the character for "10". I have seen scouters tie this knot in a friends wood badge beads. This is a pretty good diagram. It will take a couple of tries to memorize it. http://www.black-panther.org.uk/knots/friend.htm This second knot is also called a friendship knot by some. It is a diamond knot or Bowswain's whistle knot. http://www.dfw.net/~jazzman/knotter/Fship.htm
  6. "Yes, it was Socrates that said the most important thing in a man's life is to care for his soul and to seek after truth. It is Socrates that the whole of Western Culture rests on. It was he that had the greatest influence other than Jesus on our way of life." Your posts slander the BSA program and scouters that deliver the promise. They indicate that neither man has had much impact on your life.
  7. "I'm wondering what the original Greek is for 'incredibly stubborn.'" When you are always right and know all, there is no need to consider the opinion of another. Oh, to be so blest...
  8. "There is at least one Scout that I knew that could never be a man" Nailed it. Bumps.
  9. It takes a lot of gall for WHEELER to accuse someone else of slander. Someone like him should not be throwing around such unfounded accusations. However, his posts would be pretty thin without slander of scouts, scouters and the scout movement.
  10. Gee, someone starting positive a thread about the BSA. Bumps. THANK YOU.
  11. "Who is this wheeler dude, anyway?" He starred as the guy under the bridge in "Three Billy Goats Gruff"
  12. Congratulations OGE, my five-star friend. WHEELER, the perfect reverse barometer, has called you illogical. Yet another badge of honor for you. BTW WHEELER, we very rarely kill off scouts. The ongoing training SMs receive is pretty good. We network on a regular basis to keep from re-inventing the wheel. You, on the other hand, are re-inventing the flat tire.
  13. Nice post OGE, bumps. Thanks so much for the dose of BP. He is the perfect medicine for diseased WHEELER thread. BP was a genius who recognized what needed to be done to reach out to boys and develop them into fine young men. I have seen this process work wonders for all kinds of boys. There is nothing as gratifying as observing the program work miracles with young men in our band of brothers.
  14. Bumps for the house on packsaddle. (pack, I gave you a bump, too ;^)
  15. The first time he posted the thread he was baiting for a higher rating. This time he is serious. ;^)
  16. Don't mention it...and I mean it! You seemed far to happy and untroubled. Here's a bump to even it out a bit.
  17. "I was copying the previous man's post and did not add "contempt for" in front of altruistic." That does make more sense. However, Ayn Rand was a selfish, arrogant and overbearing twit. Come to think of it...I can understand why you quote her.
  18. I really couldn't help myself...
  19. Why not? One bump comin' up.
  20. Alright FOG, I'll give you a bump, too.
  21. Congratulations on participating in the White Stag Program. And thanks for your military service. Good for you, but neither addresses my points. I have more than a dozen years as a Scoutmaster and a trainer of Scoutmasters. I also have been on staff and directed a Junior Leader Training Conference. Just like a troop, the boys lead the JLTC. Monarchy has nothing to do with the process of running a troop. I stated something that I stand behind. There are plenty of women that are better at the role of Scoutmaster than you could ever be. I am pretty pleased with the scouts I have helped over the years. They speak for me just as they do for my fellow scouters on this forum. You have done nothing for scouting in your adult life and your "ideas" contribute nothing of value to the movement. When it comes to scouting, it is all greek to you.
  22. >"So who really gives a flip about the stars anyhow?" "Well, I have begun placing just a bit more credence in them ever since I went back up from 1.5 stars to 2.5. (Just kidding.)" Well, I just gave you another bump. I hope you are happy. I have given a thumbs up to everyone on this thread a thumbs up, except for FOG. I'm not smart enough to agree with him. ;^)
  23. "The Boy Scout Troop is a Republic. Boys learn by leading as Patrol leaders. The Old Scout handbook said "BOY AND MAN LEADERS". Both are needed. I was responding to the slant of the previous thread where boys are to assume ALL leadership. The Scoutmaster is the guide, a Leader, the Monarchy. The Boy Leaders are the aristocracy; the non-commissioned officers of the Troop. They are learning to lead. The others are the demos, learning the ropes. It is all a paideia." The Scoutmaster is not a king, nor is the boy leadership an aristocracy. As with the evolution thread, it is quite clear that you are talking about something you know absolutely nothing about. "It is a harmony of all for all. To make it ALL youth led leds to disproportion. Disproportion is what is evil. Youth do not have the fullness of knowledge or experience that it takes for the knowledge of the GOOD. Non-commissioned officers do not run the military. The Boy Scout movement is based on the structure of the military and on another basis. Employees do not run the store." Scouts run the troop. If you think that is harmony, you document your ignorance of the BSA program. The adults are there to train boy leaders, provide resources for the program and to ensure health and safety. I may (and do) know a lot that the boys don't. That doesn't mean I step in at every opportunity to show my superior knowledge. The job of the Scoutmaster is not to lecture. We take the development of leadership much more seriously than you do.
  24. I thank my lucky stars that a certain poster doesn't agree with my viewpoints. Wear those few remaining stars and thumbs downs from that gomer as a badge of honor. I think the whole rating thing is more than a bit lame. So how really gives a flip about the stars anyhow?
