Pardon me Merlyn, I stand corrected, you never did say that atheists aren't rude and you are living up to that standard. You do seem to spend an extraordinary amount of time disproving something that you don't "believe." Funny, I know that the world isn't flat so I don't give the "Flat Earth Society" two thoughts. "Methinks [thou] doth protest too much."
-
Merlyn now takes the classic atheist tack of insults which he earlier claimed that he didn't do. Atheists attack because they are desperately trying believe what they claim.

"So if a true believer prays to be healed, this bible verse says they WILL be healed -- even if they have no access to medicine. " Only God knows who the true believers are.
-
Let's see . .. "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." Hmmmm . . . nothing about "healing without medicine" here.

CA state senate condemns Boy Scouts' exclusionary policy

"condemn wasn't my wording, it was the headline the newspaper used." Knowingly repeating a lie is the same as lying. -
"The MAAF prez is with the 1st armored division." That doesn't mean that he isn't a REMF. Matt 21:22 doesn't mean that prayer alone will heal. Maybe your prayers will be answered by antibiotics.

Merlyn lies again. I don't see "condem" anywhere in the bill itself. What I see is that the lawmakers from the Land of Fruits and Nuts "encouraging" BSA to accept homosexuals and atheists. I find it odd that BSA gets so much fuss. If the Boys and Girls Club is such a wonderful organization, why don't the homosexuals and atheists just stay with B&G Clubs and leave us alone. Now, Merlyn will give us that old song and dance about "government funding." -
"Perhaps the old "no atheists in foxholes" should be turned around to "no christians in hospitals", since TRUE christians would just pray to get well, right?" I don't recall that ever being taught in my church.

He may be in Iraq but is he a REMF or a real soldier.
-
"That's because I spent a while today preparing myself for the United Way hearing we have to go through as a council on Wednesday." Go in there and tell them that you don't want or need their money. Make headlines with, "Boy Scouts Reject United Way Funding."

That's right Ed. They live in the engine rooms of Naval vessels and they don't like being hunted.

Doesn't matter, OGE. The motive is the same.
-
Well OGE, nearly all of the stories here fall into the same category as snipe hunts. Anytime that you spin a yarn with the idea of fooling the listener, you are amusing yourself at another's expense. We are such evil people.
-
Oh my GOD! Snipe hunts! There are those in Scouting who would rather have you worshiping Satan than sending young Scouts on snipe hunts. Don't you know that you can damage their young minds. Heck, look at what happened to you. :-)

I don't believe it, I know it.

When a werewolf attacks, be sure to tell him that he doesn't exist.

The "left" is anyone who doesn't agree with me. :-) I find it interesting that in the 60's conservatives trusted the government and liberals didn't. Now the conservatives don't trust the government and the liberals do.

Outfitting the new Troop

Arrowman, the one advantage to buying from BSA's Supply Division is that everything is guaranteed for life. That said, if you find a Coleman store at an outlet mall, they give Scouts a 20% discount. -
"Females were banned from Combat operations because it was felt that their prescence would interfere with the military carrying out their functions, The ladies are now doing it. "Females were once banned from Naval Ship duty because it was felt that their prescence would disrupt the ship form its duty, they now serve. " All depends on who you listen to as to whether they disrupt anything.

A friend just completed Wood Badge and she wasn't given a cap.

Go with the expedition hat.

"How do I get into the lucrative and ever growing field of background checking? (Yes, this was typed in jest.)" Don't laugh too loud. Our school system REQUIRES that all applicants be fingerprinted at "Jim's Fingerprint Studio" at a cost to the applicant of $80. Somehow Jim got an exclusive contract with the School District. Oddly, the county government (the people that fund the schools) does their own fingerprinting of applicants for free.

I like my red wool jacket. It looks nice and is warm. The problem is the the BSA lightweight jacket. That nylon POS looks like heck and is about as utilitarian as a bent nail. We need a new lightweight jacket. Maybe something like a Safari jacket in OD or khaki. Big pockets and either a half belt or a drawstring for the waist.

We do a 50/50 split and the same boys that worked when they got 0% are the ones that busted their tails for the 50/50. Our problem is that the families are too affluent and the idea of actually making their children work to earn something is anathema to them. Recently we've kicked around the idea of giving the Scouts 100% and raising the dues from $50 a year to $100 a year. This way, the Scouts that raise funds wouldn't have to pay out of pocket and the others would be paying their fair share.

Perhaps our parents are more self centered than most but one of the most frequent discussions that I have centers around "fairness." I hear that "it's not fair that Johnny isn't a 1st Class when all of his friends are. He wanted to go on those camping trips but he had soccer." They just don't seem to understand that it wouldn't be fair to the boys who did the work to promote someone who hadn't.
