  1. I have been discussing the issue, you're the one that is avoiding it. Proselytize, let's try that slowly . . . prahhhh, sell, uh, ties. Big difference between a Scout saying, "I feel Jesus in my life" and "This weeks campout will include a baptism for all Scouts."
  2. "You still have not sited (sic) any part of the program that would restrict a scout from sharing his religious belief with another person." Still have problems with English, don't you? Proselyitize. . . get it? Got it? Doubt it. "But I think it would be wrong to believe the program would crumble should either you or I quit tomorrow." Oh, Bob White! Are you really this thick or is it just an act?
  3. "what sane adult wants to work with a bunch of kids without another adult?" It was pretty common back in the 60s. Maybe kids were better behaved back then.
  4. Bob White, it is obvious that you have trouble with the English language. "Minister" and "proselytize" have very different meanings. "What I think would be irrelevant since it is not my program." Maybe that's the difference between you and the rest of us. We care about the program because we consider it to be ours. Why is it our program? Well, without us, the membership, BSA would cease to exist.
  5. "I don't see how a scout purposely using the scouting program in order to improve his college opportunities is misuse of scouting." Another example of Bob White deliberately misrepresenting what another said. Where did I say anything about the Scout using the program? "Both of these points seem more to be positive uses of scouting not a misuse, don't they?" So you wouldn't mind if the Mormons sent their missionaries out in BSA uniforms? There is a difference between a ministry and proselytizing.
  6. "Please read my words closely - " Please read the Bible closely. I don't have access to the original Greek but the KJV says, "if you lust after a woman in your heart, you have committed adultery." If you are daydreaming about nubile young women, that's lust hence you have committed adultery.
  7. "Our district has 3400 members, 185 units." Damn! That's big for a district. I was told that a district really shouldn't have more than 50 units, 60 at most. If you have too many units, you over work the DE.
  8. " Are you an adulterer? Is that the truthful answer? " If we accept the teachings of J.C. (Jesus Christ or Jimmy Carter), yes.
  9. I'm in a big council. We have a gazillion districts, a budzillion Scouts. For a long time, I thought that this was a great thing. After this is America where biggerer is betterer. However, after Man O'Steele gave the numbers for his council, I began to rethink my position. Every now and then, Bob White says, "you need to discuss this with your Scout Executive." Not being on the Council Committee, the likelyhood of even meeting the SE is pretty low. I've been to Pow Wows, Univ. of Scouting, Program Launch, and other Council events and I've never seen the man there. I once actually called the Council offices and tried to talk to the SE. I was redirected everywhere but they had a wall up around the SE. I would hope that in a small council like Dave's that the likelyhood of being able to talk to the SE would be much greater. There is something nice about being able to talk to the person at the top.
  10. Many youth programs are misused by the adults involved. In youth sports, adults get consumed with the need to win and forget about having fun. Adults get caught up with the idea that "they" are winning the games and forget the players. Parents are just as bad, expecting the coaches/program managers/leaders to be babysitters. Parents also view sports or Scouting as a road to college for their kids and really don't care if the kid gets anything out of the experience, they just are looking for a scholarship.
  11. "Anytime a leader knows and understands the methods of Scouting, but chooses to ignore some part of those methods constitutes misuse of the program." That's misapplication of the program, not misuse. Misuse would be using Scouting to proselytize for a specific religion, political party, or any organization/belief system that is contrary to Scouting. And. . . . what Laurie said.
  12. I like the B-P Scouting model. Not so much emphasis on merit badges. However, these weren't B-P Scouts unless they wear buying their uniforms at the wrong store. They had BSA position patches, BSA strips above the right pocket, BSA CSPs (on the wrong arm). I didn't ask about them but maybe I should. They probably were told that they need to wear the CSP but didn't want to give up the community strip.
  13. " 240 days so far this year.... " Why bother to own a house? :-)
  14. Dang, learn something new everyday.
  15. Bob White stated, "I feel no kinship to those who degrade or misuse the program and it's members." Are you saying that the dead guy misused the program? FScouter said, "I would hope that if a kid needs to buy pants for Scouting, he would buy the uniform pants before he buys black pants" What if he only has $12.50 to spend?
  16. There is a big difference between substituting an item of the uniform and not wearing what you have in a proper manner.
  17. "Den meetings do not require two-deep leadership" Huh?
  18. "Please show me where it is written that this game makes us a family." If you don't view Scouting as a global family, maybe you don't belong in Scouting. I'd explain how funerals are a social obligation and how that idea is vanishing from our society because parents say, "They don't want to go . . ." as if anyone wants to go to a funeral. I'd explain that to you but you wouldn't understand. One other thing. Where did you come. Up with this stange style of writing. In which you stick periods. Everywhere?
  19. Okay, maybe it wasn't because the troop was from New Jersey but they did do something that I had never seen before and my Uniform Police citation book was screaming to be used. I saw a troop this weekend from someplace in New Jersey, it could have been Litfield or Littleton, I don't recall. They were wearing the old style community strips on the left sleeve. Nothing strange in that, I've seen many troops do that. What was strange was that they wore a CSP on the right sleeve where the flag should go.
  20. Black pants aren't part of the uniform but if no one has a complete uniform, I don't see it out of line to say, "Okay, everyone wear black pants" even though I think that black and khaki don't look good together. If you're going to go buy new pants (the black ones) go to Old Navy and buy some OD green pants.
  21. "First, I don't see why the Scouts in the troop would want to be part of a funeral when they don't know the person??" To show respect for the person and what they accomplished. I've been to more than a few funerals for people that I didn't know. The Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetary are guarding soldiers that they didn't know. The Marines that show up at the local veteran's funeral didn't know him. Scouting is supposed to be a family. Evidently you missed that.

IF the correct position for a name tag is above the right pocket, why does BSA sell leather name tags that hang from the button?
