"Senior Balloon from Massachusetts. Very adult and analytical. I'm sure that you find it very amusing and profound when the liberals made fun of Quayle's spelling gaffe (the teacher was a Democrat and gave him a bad card) or when they poke fun at W's misrenounciation of words.

In the world of numbers, to truncate is to whack of the least signifcant part. Is Republic more or less significant than France?(This message has been edited by Fat Old Guy)

" produces better beer than Budweiser or Miller " Heck, Pittsburgh produces better beer than Bud. "Of course they don't have the luxury of being able to unilaterally fight a war against other countries thousands of miles away that do not pose an immiediate threat to their citizenry." So? We've never attacked Taiwan or have we?
-
" always thought that truncating "United States of America" left you with "United States", not "America" " Why, is truncate the wrong word? If you use the same method to shorten "Republic of France" or "Pepople's Republic of China" you are left with "Republic" or "People's Republic." "Republic" is the description of the type of country as is "United States" As for "My Troop," shame on you for even thinking that.

"Suspenders but only if they are RED!" Aren't red suspenders for firemen?
-
Which would rather have, suspenders or plumber's crack?

" Here in my part of the world, the schools evolve around the overachievers." In my little corner of the world, the top third and bottom third get the special tutors, field trips, etc.. The middle group gets ignored. -
" I invite you come up for a stay in the autumn. It's really quite lovely." So was Berchtesgarten but that has nothing to do with the discussion. As for you judicial and penal system, I have no desire to experience it as I have no desire to experience the American systems. BTW, I have been to Canada. I'd rather be in Indianapolis. I read something interesting in the paper about the Canadian military and how it is in danger of vanishing because of bad planning. The most striking thing in the article was that your defense budget is only $10 billion a year. They didn't say if that was in Canadian money but if it was that's what, $2.95 US?

"I seem to be missing something, you guys are actually missing him? I'm sure not" Move to Canada, they don't allow free thought there.

Shell, West Side Story opened at the Winter Garden Theatre on September 26, 1957. Unless it was "future fiction," it was set in the 50's. The movie was released in '61 which would have had it filmed in 60 and likely written in 59. As for Natalie Wood, I never heard her sing so I can't comment on her voice. As for the Greeks, they let their kids run wild and look where their society wound up.
-
" BTW, who here thinks the Sharks and the Jets were meant to portray two social/glee club/dancing early Venture Crews?" Contrary to West Side Story, every young man in the 1950s was not a member of a gang.

"Bill Clinton will remain responsible for everything bad that ever happens in or to this country, until the end of time." Nah, that was Joe Kennedy and his spawn.

Sorry Ed, by your standards neither Germany nor France are countries in Europe nor anywhere else. Now by a strange coincidence there are countries in Europe named the Republic of France and the Federal Republic of Germany (English translations). Now if you want to truncate the names of those countries to Germany and France then you have to be willing to truncate the United States of America to America.

" I agree with him about music, a lot of it today stinks, especially heavy metal and rap, but I can't ignore the fact that my parents said basically the same thing about music that I was listening to, and that still sounds great to me 20-30 years later. The current "younger generation" will probably always be the "worst" from their parents' standpoint, that's just the way it works." My mother liked most of my music ranging from ABBA to the Kinks but she didn't care for Zappa. The big difference today is that the "music" of youth is about violence, rape, and other unsavory things. The clothing styles are taken from the styles promoted by gangsters and sociopaths.

Ed, by your logic Germany isn't a country and neither is France.(This message has been edited by Fat Old Guy)

"Scoutmaster's conference, the meeting is to be conducted in view of other adults and youths." A strict reading of this would require at least two adults AND at least two youth as observers. Not very practical.

New Jersey Dude asked, "But for those who do think that what the GSUSA does is relevant to what the BSA does," It is in that there has never been a public hue and cry over GSUSA's discriminatory practices. R7Voyager said, "I have never heard a female scouter lamenting about how things were better in scouting when she was a youth." The reason for that is that they weren't involved in Scouting as a youth. I do hear Girl Scout leaders complaining about how their program has changed.
-
" Can a GSUSA leader (female) be alone with the youth?" Yes but evil men cannot.

"Has anyone bought the new instant hot water heater that Coleman has?" Instant? Just add water? BTW, you guys and your color choices are getting bothersome.

Ed, last time that I checked, the United States of America was the only country with America in its name. Canadians had their their chance to be Americans but blew it. Patton wasn't speaking of Canadians or Mexicans in his famous speech from the opening of the movie. Lee Greenwood isn't talking about Canadian or Peruvians in his song. Heck, Canadians have free health care but not freedom of speech. America is the 50 states and the Territories or anyplace that two or three Marines gather on November 10th.

KS said, "just pointing out that it's different." Not just different but sexist, however, sexism against men is PC and encouraged today.

Hoo-rah!

"meaning his entire sexist point of view isn't needed." Oh, how New Age and enlightened. I find it interesting that you've deleted your profile.
