"The idiot typing this is also a registered GSUSA leader." Then you should know that your daughter is a Brownie GIRL Scout.

" It provides guideline for how the Flag SHOULD be treated. It is not a law." Sorry, but it is a law. It is part of the US Code which are the laws of the land. There are no penalties for violating these laws since the Supremes decided that showing disrespect for the flag was protected by the 1st Amendment.

" I am sure that you must violate "prevailing community standards" somewhere in this great land of ours..." Maybe outside of Lancaster, Pa. "You watch out for them English." -

"I was more referring to all of the posts in which you were rude and obscene." Rude? Maybe. Obscene? When? -
SM Ronnie asked, "FOG..would it be a fair statement that you don't care for scouters that follow the program from the book?" Not at all. I'm pretty much a by-the-book guy, I just don't care for the book. In any game, there are rules to fuss about and there are rules to not fuss over. Of course there are also the myths that people think are rules. What I don't like are the people who thump the book, crying in a loud voice, "The program is perfect, if you find fault with the program (or book or uniform) there is fault within you and you should be cast into outer darkness for you are unworthy."

An entirely new meaning to "a scout is thrifty"
Fat Old Guy replied to eisely's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Usually when people swipe things from an employer, they take things like pens, notebooks, and the odd stapler. Taking enough to buy a house is chutzpah. Makes you wonder how much the Scout shop was raking in to not notice $40,000 missing the first year (assuming that $40,000 was stolen each year). -

Many years ago, a member of the board at my church was sent off in shame after he was caught stealing money from the collection. His parents, long pillars of the parish were embarassed and left as well. I just remembered that this fellow was a Boy Scout all the way through high school. Don't know if he is an Eagle. -
So OGE, if I drop an anvil on my foot and expect pleasure, I'll enjoy it but if I'm expecting pain, it will hurt?

"Way back during the days of door-to-door scouting for food," I thought that everyone did door-to-door collections for SFF.

A real movie about the Pinewood Derby
Fat Old Guy replied to fotoscout's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I expect to see a lawsuit over the use of the name "Pinewood Derby." -
The large toothed fellow said, "Perhaps they picked up their attitude of doing it their way from an example of someone else in their unit who likes to criticize BSA policies and methods. Ya think?" Nah, not likely. One was around long before me and I've had little reason to interact with the other. Korea guy said, "FOG's characterization of the two leaders in his unit employs two types of logical fallacies in one example." Nice try but it won't work. I said that my sample set is small. I just haven't seen anything good come out of the program. For those who say, "go try it!" Why should I invest time and money for something that I'm not convinced will do any good? If your argument is that I can't make a decision without experienceing it, that's silly. We make decisions about many things based on observations.

Ronny asked, "Nice dodge FOG bringing out the Sadam card..so why were 30% of your last 20 post personal attacks?" I don't know that they were since Bobo wasn't speaking of me. However, I don't make attacks, I comment on inane book-thumping.

"I don't want to speculate on what would have happened had I tried to wear my Eagle Scout medal at my wedding." Some women are so uptight about their weddings. It is almost as if the men aren't even involved. I wanted the men in my wedding to dress as Morris dancers and dance down the aisle whilst clonking our sticks. Did my sweetie appreciate that? Nope.

"Wouldn't it be nice to be around descent people all the time?" Does that mean that they're going down? " People that come into your room, and take things without asking... food etc..." Back in the day, if someone did that there was a quick solution, you pounded them. Today, I'm sure that pounding is frowned upon.

Bobo Blanco said, " Of the last 20 posts 30% were soley personal attacks or contained personal attacks." Sadaam Hussein also was unable to see that the attacks were his fault.

"Surprising that a guy with thousands of posts has such a bad attitude in a scouting forum." I have a very good attitude. Without people like me who question the status quo the emporer would would walking around naked because no one would say a word. How often have we seen projects and programs run awry or amok because no one wanted to seem out of step? -
"The main reason for this is the size of the troop. The effort to manage and run a troop of 90 + is no small task." Sorry, that's not a good reason.

"It was never my intention to suggest you are untrained because you have not attended Wood Badge. But if you think you are trained without attending Wood Badge you are very mistaken indeed." Not being a Democrat, I haven't conducted a study and I don't have reams of statistics to back me up, I just know what I've observed in my tiny corner of the world. We have an ASM (an Eagle Scout) who went through the current Scout Leader training and, within six months, was off to MS Woodbadge 2001. I have yet to be impressed by his level of training and knowlege. To him, the most important things are keeping everything neat and orderly. Patrol spirit? Not important. Songs? Nope. Campfire? Only if it is orderly. Boy run means that he makes the plans and the boys execute them, if they remain orderly. Learning through failure is not an option We have another ASM (not an Eagle) who also attended MS Woodbadge 2001 and he is much the same way. Line the boys up and "run them through" activities. "On this hike we will accomplish . . ." As above, failure is not an option and these guys will make sure that no makes a mistake. With both of these guys, fun is secondary on any Scouting outing. As I said, a very small sample set but so far I'm not impressed.

Please stop homosexual activists and atheists

"Moreover, if the BSA has the right to expel the Cradle of Liberty Council of Philadelphia for dissent, then the WOSM has the same right to expel the BSA for dissent. Think about it!" Oooooo, that might be a horrible thing. To no longer be a member of WOSM. If that happened, we wouldn't have to wear that purple patch on our shirts. If WOSM got rid of BSA, BSA would simply sign up with another international scouting organization. There are others. -
Not only is Bob White the resident expert on pencils with corporate logos, he is also the resident tax law expert. This is great.

"And FOG, get off your Girl Scout knocking. It is not very becoming." I will continue to bash the GSUSA as long as they discriminate against men and boys.

"Your qualifications as a volunteer to judge and replace other volunteers is what?????????????????????" He was the boss, that's the only qualification that anyone needs.

A few years back, I met a rancher from Montana who was wearing a $1,200 hat. The subject came up because a waitress picked up his hat to move it "Sweetheart, if you go anywhere with that hat it would be considered grand theft." The felt was mink. It was a beautiful hat. A while back I found an ad from a surplus store that was selling surplus Marine Corps DI hats for $20. They can be reached at info@hunterslodge.com The hat is still listed in the current ad http://www.hunterslodge.com/Latest_Ad1.pdf

"I haven't bought a Playboy for about 7 years, but if there's one on the coffee table, I figure I might as well catch up with the times. " The articles are still good but the pictures are too depressing, most of the models are young enough to be my daughter. Maybe even my granddaughter if I started early -
I don't believe that there is an official place to wear the medal on civilian attire. However, the convention for military medals is above the breast pocket, the left one if you're wearing a stylish jacket.
