I see no problem with having the Scout keep his blue cards. I do have a problem with any BOR requiring the Scout to produce them at his BOR. Doing so is adding to the requirements.

Kahuna, Is an Eagle COH required for a Scout to receive his Eagle regalia? Nope. It is up to the Scout & his parents if he wants to have an Eagle COH. If they don't fine! Can this be a unit event? Sure, but it doesn't have to be. Since you brought up the "show me" card Kahuna, show me where it states an Eagle COH is required & that an Eagle COH is a unit event. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Boy led with adult guidance! Simple!

pixiewife, Nice stats about the candidates. One thing, though, Palin isn't running for president. Obama is.

My wife's older sister was a great example to us of how we didn't want to parent. Her boys ran them. They did what they wanted. Kids want guidance. Kids need parents who will provide that guidance. Kids don't need their parents to be their friends. They have enough of those outside the family!

What we always did with our kids (son & daughter) was if they were signed up for something, they saw it through until it ended. If they didn't like it & didn't want to sign up again that was fine, but they had to replace it with another activity we approved of. And watching TV or playing video games wasn't an activity we approved of.

Diversity thoughts?

OGE, Because there are kids who like to play soccer & wanna be Scouts? No wait! Because there are kids who are Scouts who wanna play soccer? Wait! So the BSA could put BSA logos on soccer balls? Man I don't know! -
I have run into situations where my council never recorded the MB's earned & the blue cards verified they were earned. But to require a Scout to bring the to an EBOR is adding to the requirements. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

An Eagle COH is different from a unit COH. An Eagle COH is totally optional where a unit should be holding a COH at least quarterly. An Eagle COH is the responsibility of the Eagle & his parents & may or may not include the Scout's unit. A unit COH is the responsibility of the unit. There have been posters here who. in the past, thought there was nothing wrong with a wine & cheese fundraiser with Scouts present. Some of these same posters seem to have a problem with this issue. Interesting. If you don't agree with it, don't go. I for one don't agree with it but I do understand it. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

Diversity thoughts?

Boy Scouts has been largely a white, middle-class organization. Interesting statement. I would bet if you asked anyone at National if the BSA was a white middle-class organization, they would tell you "no, it never has been." And for those who think this, yup you need diversity! Diversity thoughts?

Vicki, If we keep our heads in the box the only thing we will see is the box! While I agree we need to see the entire world, I feel this can be done without the BSA having a CYA program like diversity training. Heck, diversity is all around us! If we follow the Oath & Law diversity is a non-issue! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
The problem, SMT224, seems to be Bob & kraut-60 are more defined by their political affiliation than anything else! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I'm hungry. But can a unit accept donations they didn't solicit?

Diversity thoughts?

This thread, to me, proves the importance of the diversity ticket as a required item in the national syllabus. Kinda wondering how you came to this conclusion, Vicki. -
What I'm talking about is the example it sets - what are the girls in my daughters Girl Scout Troop to think if it's ok for Bristol to get pregnant? What are the boys in my son's Boy Scout Troop to think? That it's ok to get a girl pregnant? The truth is, 17 not a good age to get pregnant - neither for the girl or the baby. And then there's the whole issue of emotional maturity. What kind of example do YOU want it to set, SMT224? No one can change the fact this happened. It's up to YOU how your daughter & son view this. Not the Republicans or the Democrats or even Sarah Palin. It's all on YOU! And to politicize this is nothing more than muck raking! And I'd be wary if I were those who started this! This in no way sways how I will vote. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Bet ya SMT224 is a Obama supporter. Yep getting pregnant out of wedlock is not OK. But aborting the baby because you made a error in good judgment isn't OK either. She's doing the right thing.(This message has been edited by evmori)

Friday & Monday are travel days????? How far away is this camp? Scouting is the same as any other activity. It's important but school comes 1st. It sounds like these folks want to enjoy some long weekends! I wonder what the DE & Chartering Organization thinks of this? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Not only your example, nldscout, but anyone enjoying an adult beverage in their home with minors present is violating this really poorly written law! Including those who wrote the law! -

Gotta say nldscout if that law was actually enforced, I would bet 90% of the population of NY would be in jail! The Eagle rank is still part of the BSA. An ECOC may be, but for a Scout to receive his Eagle, he doesn't need to have an ECOH! That is up to the Scout & his parents. And while I agree alcohol should not be presents when Scouts are around, if the parents have the ECOH at their house, it's their call! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

This is a tough one. I think the first "misstep" was agreeing to have the ECOH, a troop function, at the home of the scout. If it were, say, at the troop's normal meeting place, a simple cake and punch reception, hosted by the troop, could follow. An ECOH is NOT a troop function. The troop can assist but it is in no way a function of a troop to provide a ECOH. This is strictly an individual thing. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
