  1. I misstated before when I said you only need the Advancement Chair on a BOR. The BOR must be made up of all unit committee members. Sorry!
  2. Scouting doesn't exclude atheists. Atheists don't meet the membership requirements. Sure you can state they are excluded, but in reality, you can't be excluded from something you can't join!
  3. I agree 100% with no inappropriate touching. Should never happen. Sounds like this has been construed to no touching at all!
  4. Yes we do have the technology, Mr. Boyce. You do realize you have controls at your fingertips that will allow you to see only what you want to see, don't you?
  5. BOR's should be done on an as needed basis. And since you are the Advancement chair, I would continue to do this. Don't resign. The committee apparently wants to control advancement which isn't the purpose of the committee. You don't need any other committee members except yourself for a BOR. Recruit some parents to help out! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Not allowed to touch? Hmmm. Don't think I've ever read that in any BSA publication? Would someone please give a reference or post the actual verbiage from an official BSA publication? Thanks
  7. DeanRx, Great examples! Thanks for sharing how people don't understand what they read.
  8. Love the initiative! And yeah they should let the Pack know what they were doing. I'm sure these Cubs were trying to be the top sellers in the Pack! In cub scouts there is no such thing a a personal fundraiser or a den fundraiser. All fundraising activity is done at the pack level. Where did anyone state this was anything other than a Pack fundraiser? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. I agree, Kudu, but there is still the chance when this Scout is walking around the camp someone will have an open bag of peanuts with the scent wafting through the air! I went with my wife to her allergist last night & asked about this. The allergist said this would have to be extremely severe & that is extremely rare! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Isn't the application checked prior to it being sent on to the advancement committee? And if the committee wants the unit's portion of the blue card, they should be the ones who get them & leave the Scout out of it! I still don't see the necessity. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Did ya type in "girl scout" & see what ya get? If this is a surprise for ya, then ya need to get out more! This is the ugly side of reality on the internet!
  12. How does this kid walk into any grocery store & not suffer the consequences of this allergy? I can understand this being a problem in a closed environment, but not in the outdoors. Sure the unit can ban all peanut stuff from campouts but as once they go to summer camp, this kid is gonna be in trouble. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Providing the letters makes the District Advancement Committee's job much simpler. A true statement. But I find it annoying that the committee needs their job simplified by piling a task that is truly the committee's responsibility on the Scout. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. liperazs, You are to provide the reference contact information. It is up to the district/council advancement committee to get the references. They might ask you to get them.
  15. I'm with NJ on the prank alarm. And unless this person was tried as an adult, there is no felony. And if this is true, I would say this persons chances are slim to none to earn their Eagle.
  16. Expected behavior should not be rewarded. And no it won't kill anyone's program. if it does, there is more wrong than boys not behaving properly.
  17. Scouts and Scouters should not use the uniform to promote politicians. Heck yeah! We don't want them being booed again, do we!
  18. Maybe training should be mandatory for the main people in the unit. For troops, the SM, all ASM's & CC. For packs, the CM, all DL's the ACM & the CC.
  19. Expected behavior? Out of 12 squirrelly kids if only one behaves by doing what is expected, shouldn't he be rewarded for leading by example? Nope. He should be held up as the way you EXPECT the other boys to behave.(This message has been edited by evmori)
  20. Who's working on the merit badge? The Scout!
  21. There is nothing wrong for rewarding behavior above & beyond what is expected but never reward expected behavior. If you expect the boys to be good, give them the guidelines & expect they will follow them. If they don't, they lose whatever they lose but if they meet the guidelines they have met the expected behavior. They get nothing!
  22. Neil, You are correct it is the Scout's Eagle. But why should the Scout have to comply with a made-up requirement? If he had to bring his birth certificate to prove his age, would that be OK? How about a blood test?
  23. John's do nothing option isn't an option. I'd ask for chapter & verse from National policy that requires this. And when it's time for your Scout to have his EBOR, don't take the blue cards. If they refuse this Scout his EBOR, appeal.
  24. Jesus was a community organizer. Interesting.
