  1. As for evmori's question, I block his posts, for obvious reasons, which is why I do not know or answer his questions. 'Nuff said! Hey Billy, take that fiver that man gave you & give it back to him! Tell him we can't use his money!
  2. Minor thread hijack continued. raisinemright, Contact a SM in that district & ask them to recommend a MB counselor!
  3. I'd stick with Front Page unless you are having problems or migrate to Office SharePoint Designer 2007.
  4. Well, if you earned these merit badges & you seem to have the documentation that you did earn them, it would seem to make sense to ask your SM instead of a post under a handle in a Scouting forum. Hope that helps explain my logic.
  5. OK. So your unit is selling popcorn at the local Food King & someone comes up & gives the unit $5 but doesn't want any popcorn. Do you accept it of have one of the Scout chase him down to return it?
  6. Being a MB counselor for 10 badges, yes the Scouts contact me directly. If a parent calls & says little Johnny wants to work on a badge I counsel I tell them great have little Johnny give me a call & we can set up a time to meet!
  7. In any business or organization there are people who just should not be there. How true! But who makes that call? In Scouting, it should be the COR since they are the ones who are to choose the leaders. But in most cases, they have little to do with the unit & it is left up to the unit volunteers to handle these things.
  8. I can just imagine how that'll work out. A kid's parents want to attend the camp out with the troop or pack but first we leaders ask them a bunch of nosy questions about their marital status. Now a good many of them are going to tell us to mind our own business! And if the goal is to protect kids from adult sexual behavior entirely, then you'd better be ready to spell it out to the married couples too. The goal is to follow the rules the BSA has set forth. If they aren't married, they can't stay in the same tent or sleep in the same bed when they are along with the unit. What they do on their own time is no concern. If they understand the reason why, they should have no problem. If they don't then maybe we don't want them along in the 1st place.
  9. So you'd rather take the word of others than open your own mind and read it yourself. Don't think that's what I said! That is more your opinion of what I said which is incorrect. Og God Og! Love it! Hey does that mean cavemen believed in God?
  10. No Lisabob. Like SR540Beaver posted, this should be done at the unit level prior to camp. And aren't we supposed to be setting the examples by following the rules?
  11. Why? Are you afraid that your faith isn't strong enough to survive? No fear here! Just don't see the need. Better yet, how do you know what the book is about until you read it? Read reviews, duh! The primate of the Orthodox Church in America once opined that our faith cannot be very strong if we cannot question it. What does that have to do with the reading material I choose?
  12. You have a good point ScoutMomSD, but the fact still remains this DE knowingly violated the rules! If we don't know the marital status maybe we should be asking.
  13. Knowing an organization was created but not understanding why the organization was created leads to misconceptions about the organization.
  14. Being a devout Christian, I have always found it best not to read books or see movies like this.
  15. We as adults are to be setting the example for the boys. What kind of example does it set when a professional Scouter doesn't follow the rules?
  16. BadenP, Fact to hardline partyliners aren't important! It how you can spin them to make you candidate look good & the other candidate look bad that's important! Duh!
  17. However, the scout leader told us that all of the merit badges needed to be completed before he could even submit paperwork to the troop for approval. He's wrong. Ask him to show you where that is written in an official BSA publication. And the Scout is the one who submits the paperwork, not an adult leader.
  18. Has anyone noticed the extra hostility since Bob White's return?
  19. Bad example! How is he now supposed to deal with the same situation if it comes up in one of his units?
  20. A few boys sign up for merit badge classes. They go to the classes and sign in. Then they bail out on the class. The classes are very large, and they are not missed. This happens for a few days, before the leaders find out about what the boys are doing. How do you handle it? 1st - Sit these boys down & have a little chat. Find out where they were & what they were doing. 2nd - Have them apologize to the MB counselors for disrespecting them. 3rd - When mom & dad show up for parents night or to pick up these boys at the end of camp, with the boys present, fill the parents in on what happened & let everyone know that this will be reviewed by the unit committee & there might be additional consequences. While all this is going on, the boys who blew off these classes should be assigned some unpleasant menial task like cleaning the latrine daily, daily garbage detail, etc. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. I always take the word "official" to mean from the source that governs. In this case it would be the Flag Code, not the BSA or the Air Force. Since the Flag Code doesn't address a proper way to fold a flag, one could infer as long as the flag is treated with respect, any what you want to fold it is OK. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. When I read if the learner has not learned, the teacher has not taught my understanding is the teacher has not done their job. The responsibility for learning falls only on the teacher & not the learner. Testing is only one method to see if a learner has learned. Application of what was taught is another method. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Are there bees in here???? I read the entire UNITED STATES CODE TITLE 36 CHAPTER 10 and found nothing related to the official way to fold the flag. Now the BSA does have a method for folding the flag so this could be considered the Official BSA way to fold the flag. Since in your initial post, GW, you didn't specify what official way you were looking for, there are potentially two correct answers. And the link Bob posted is from the same site that houses the UNITED STATES CODE TITLE 36 CHAPTER 10, yet there is no wording in the code regarding folding the flag. So to summarize, according to the UNITED STATES CODE TITLE 36 CHAPTER 10, there is no official way to fold the flag. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
