  1. I wonder if the PETA people think it's OK for carnivores (lions, etc.) to be snacking on wildebeests?
  2. If a Scout comes to me with a partial MB, I will review what he has learned to that point before completing the rest of the MB. It is my name going on that MB approval & I want to make sure the Scout earned the badge.
  3. I don't think a family having or not having health insurance is our business. If they don't have health insurance, they have to pay out of pocket. It should have no effect on a unit.
  4. Are you a Lifesaving MB counselor? Have you tried contacting your council to see if they have any record of this boy completing those requirements? And yes a Scout is honest, but proof of completion is required.
  5. Until they are completed or the Scout turns 18 years of age.
  6. I created a new one! But the old one is still at the link I posted!
  7. PETA is gonna come after you pack! You can create your own sea kitten on the site! I called mine PETA Killer! Check it out~ http://www.pittsburghgasprices.com/PhotoSlide.aspx?albumid=40954&category=personal&nav=my&p=-1(This message has been edited by evmori)
  8. Sea Kittens??????? Do they get hairballs? I think the PETA folks have really gone round the bend! Pass the hot sauce & get me some more chips! And what about shell fish! Hey the wife & I are going out to dinner tonight! Red Lobster here we come!
  9. This "letter of reference" requirement happens in my district. It got interesting with the last Scout I took for his EBOR. The advancement chair asked for the "letters of reference" to which I replied, "What letters are your talking about?" To which the advancement chair replied "The letters of reference that are required" to which I replied "The requirement is to provide the names & contact information of people that would be willing to give the Scout a reference. Nothing states any letters are required" to which the advancement chair replied "We can't have an EBOR without them" to which I replied, "Show me in the Advancement Procedures it states that". The Scout had his EBOR & passed. The EBOR stated the references must be checked prior to sending this on to National. I stated that was fine as long as the Scout was not held accountable for this and as long as it didn't hold up the process. I don't know if the references were ever checked, but the final approval from National came in good time. Here we go Steelers Here we go!
  10. That's all well & good, Merlyn, but it really makes no difference since both plaintiffs never attempted to use the park. Their whole basis for this suit is they are offended by the BSA. Sorta makes ya wonder if the ACLU just didn't dig these people up to file a lawsuit????? Hmmm!
  11. 1st off, Letters of recommendation are not required. This is absurd! If I were you I would contact someone at council to get this moved along. Your son should not be held accountable for something the council is doing. And in my opinion, your council is way out of line. Ya might even want to call National & let them know what's going on.
  12. And while they do not appear to have violated any Safety Regulations, if they identified themselves as Scouts when raising the money for their leader then they did indeed violate BSA policies regarding fundraising and uniform usage. If they requested to do this & their Council Executive Committee approved it, no BSA policy was violated.
  13. Mere offense is not the basis of their standing, nor the basis of their lawsuit. Bull stuff! If that's not the basis of their standing, they have no standing!
  14. s my money any better if they've checked my credit. If your credit is really horrible, maybe you would get no discount!
  15. I think, scoutldr, what that means is your SSN card is not a valid form of ID like your drivers license. I don't think it means it can't be required for membership & other things.
  16. molscouter, Without a SSN, an accurate credit report can not be obtained. And if it isn't accurate, it could result in a person being denied membership for something that isn't theirs. A credit report isn't the same as an insurance claim.
  17. A Scouts family (parents and siblings) may choose to stay their too. It is about a 15 minute walk from the where our unit traditionally camps at summer camp. That whirring sound is the helicopter parents! That is absurd!
  18. SSScout, From everything I have read, neither plaintiff ever tried to use the area. Wonder if they have since?
  19. Yeah pack, us bankers are dangerous! If it's required, ya gotta supply it! Plain & simple! There are 1001 ways for people to steal your identity! But you have to have something worth stealing!
  20. And they get inferior access to public facilities, like blacks having to sit in the back of the bus. But they can't complain, both ends get to the destination at the same time, right? Horse stuff! If the National Atheist & Gay Alliance reserved the place, the Scouts wouldn't be able to use it! Flawed ruling from the get go!
  21. So far, the only ones "bearing the penalty" are gays and atheists; funny how they never count in your world. And how, exactly, is this happening?
  22. I am always wary of people who won't give the required information like this.
  23. When SCOTUS overturns this bad decision we will all be happy!
