  1. We should all be allowed to have 1/2 dozen hand grenades! Once we use them we don't get anymore! Why? Fishing!
  2. Personally, When I was a committeeman or Chairman, I liked to ask the Scout coming in for Boards of Review to lead us in the Scout Oath and Law. I used it as a touchstone for all of us in the room, adults and young man alike. Depending on the age of the Scout, I like to ask questions about how he interprets various parts of the Oath and Law, Motto and Slogan ... working to the Character Aim of Scouting. Use to do the same thing when I sat on EBOR's & when I was the advancement chair of our Troop. There is nothing wrong with asking the Scout to lead the board in the Pledge, Oath & Law. But requiring it and requiring the Scout wear his uniform & bring his handbook are adding to the requirements. And don't forget to have that Scout leave that pint of blood before he requests that BOR!
  3. I'm not going anywhere, Brent, so those must be your parting gifts! And ya still haven't answered the question!
  4. Thank you Merlyn. Never thought I'd say that! Since you answer my question with a bunch of irrelevant analogies, I'll ask again - Why does the average citizen need an assault rifle?
  5. If these parents don't read the newsletters or leave voice mails or send or respond to e-mails then the problem isn't yours. It is theirs! As long as the information is available to all, you have done your job.
  6. I'm not part of a Troop anymore,Brent, but when I was, we also set a high standard & expected a lot from our Scouts. But we didn't make up forms & add other stuff to the requirements.
  7. BrentAllen, Nice list but none are even close to the same as owning an assault rifle! Hey why not let the entire population own rocket launchers! Imagine the fun you can have with those!
  8. WOW! Nowhere is a Scout even required to have a handbook let alone have one to be considered in full uniform! And there is no requirement that a Scout even own a uniform let alone wear it for any BOR! What other additions to the requirements are there in your unit, Brent?
  9. I have a question - What does this form have to do with A Scoutmaster Conference? This is not a pass fail requirement. It is a participate in requirement. I have another question - Other than Tenderfoot, what other rank requires the Scout to repeat the Oath & Law? While I agree a Scout should know it, there is no requirement (other than #7 for Tenderfoot) for a Scout to repeat it. I see no harm in asking him to repeat both at his rank BOR, but it shouldn't be required.
  10. Other than to murder someone, why would the everyday citizen need an assault weapon?
  11. To me pork is something that has nothing to do with the bill whatsoever! How in the heck do your think WVA got such darn good roads!
  12. I agree Gern. Earmarks, pork, put it in or I won't vote for it, etc. it's all the same. What's the pork in this one?
  13. I don't like being lied to either Brent. In fact, I have sent Scouts home from camping trips for lying! But ya got to consider that junk was said to get elected! How many candidates have said they would do something only to not do it? That's why I don't listen to those stumping speeches! They are full of hollow promises! Heck, I've blown soap bubble with more substance! Off to get those hollow point metal busters for my Uzi~(This message has been edited by evmori)
  14. I'm not an Obama fan, but give the guy a chance! He didn't create this financial mess. And if your concern is your right to carry a Uzi, then your concerns are really misplaced. Good post skeptic! If those clowns we voted for actually did their job instead of voting party lines, we would not be in the mess we are!
  15. Not worried about leftover. Worried about waste. Big difference!
  16. Honestly, I have to say this is fairly far down my list of things to worry about. That's just part of the cost of doing business. Cost of doing business? Teaching our youth to be responsible is our business & just letting this go is not teaching responsibility.
  17. If a Webelos isn't going on to Boy Scouts, what is he crossing over to?
  18. Sounds like a shopping lesson is what is needed. It might be a good idea to put together something for a couple of Troop meeting & work on this. You could introduce the topic & make a game of it! Give each patrol a list of meals & ingredients needed. Then give each patrol a list of quantities of those ingredients available for all patrols. Have each patrol sit down & figure out how much of each ingredient they will need & turn it in at the end of the meeting. At the next meeting, go over how each patrol did & tell show them where they went over or under on the ingredients. Do this as Troop. Then have them get back together as patrols & redo their lists.
  19. I agree with Barry on this. Tigers is the problem, not Webelos. Tigers, to me, adds nothing to a Pack except more headaches. It seems the reason Tigers was created was so that little brother could be part of the Pack big brother was in. What's wrong with waiting? In my opinion, if you eliminate Tigers, there will be less burnout on the back end & crossover rates will be higher. Isn't there talk of creating a younger group called Lions?
  20. Don't over think it! If they visit a BSA Troop, the requirement is met.
  21. If they aren't joining a Troop, there is nothing to crossover to! They don't get to walk across the bridge just because they want to.
  22. Interesting! Well, when these guys come up for a BOR, this should be factored in. After all, they are to be living the Scout Oath & Law in their everyday lives, aren't they?
  23. That is BS because the DE said we didn't need a fund raising permit to have a bake sale or sell candy bars. DE is wrong.
  24. If they don't show, they don't show! That is their prerogative! I would tell them that the awards for the boys not in attendance will be given to the den leaders to be handed out/awarded however they deem necessary AFTER the Blue & Gold. If they don't like it, oh well!
  25. I really don't see how this would be an issue. It shouldn't have anything to do with his ability to be a leader. Worst case, he didn't do any of it and is a poser. So what? Is he a threat to the boys? If he's lying about this what else is he lying about? And if this is all a sham, this man is not setting the kind of example a Scout leader should be setting. That is the issue. Seems pretty clear to me.
