Alert the Council. This is a direct violation of the Advancement Policies. You can also find a new unit.

BTW, who signs the book, a Scoutmaster designee or the BSA? Other than the SM Conference, does it matter? Heaven forbid Ed, a boy actually do Scouting outside of the "official required troop meeting". The nerve! Ya missed the point Frank. If a Scout comes to minimal unit meetings & campouts yet completes all the requirements is he active? According to National, yup! A Scout will win on appeal every time regardless of how many unit meetings & campouts he has attended!

The three that Nike listed plus Pecan Granny Apple Cherry Strawberry

Lets just not perpetuate the myth that active = registered No myth! Fact! How can a kid who isn't active earn ranks? He does all the required work at home & with others then shows up to get his book signed. Badda bing!

Since this is related to Cubs, I would say the reason leaders quit Cubs is because their son moves on to Boy Scouts or drops out of the program. Cubs has a higher turnover of adult leadership that Boy Scouts. They stay with the program as long as their kids are in the program & when their kids are done, so are they.

What's needed is pie! Who wants pie?

OK. So if a Scout is registered, hasn't been dismissed for being bad, e-mails weekly with the SM he is active. The Scout doesn't have to show up for anything to advance? Is that what you are stating, John?
-
Beavah makes a great point! Who is responsible? The adult leadership and the Scout are equally responsible. The adult leadership is responsible for supplying all that is necessary for the Scouts to learn & advance. They are also responsible for holding the Scouts accountable for their part of the program. The Scout is responsible for taking advantage of the opportunities the adult leadership presents. The Scout is responsible for their advancement. They are also responsible for holding the adult leadership accountable for their part of the program.

We had a boy say he passed his swimmer test at summer camp last year. No record was provided by the camp. Several other Scouts said they don't think he really did. But I took his word for it. And he therefore earned First Class. Did he or didn't he? I'm not totally sure. Nothing wrong with taking him to the local pool & finding out. No proof, no requirement completed. We have all had Scouts who couldn't swim or were afraid of the water. I had one Scout who was afraid of the water. He went on vacation with his family & his dad filmed him completing his rank swimming requirement in the pool at the hotel where they were staying. He brought the tape in, we watched it together, requirement was signed. Yeah we are to be trustworthy, but being stupid isn't trustworthy. Ed

You have two scouts caught doing somehting minorly disruptive, you say give me 10, the youth who also wrestles, snaps off a quick 10 as fast as you can blink your eyes, the other youth struggles mightily to get 4 done. What have you taught? Well, to the non-wrestler hopefully you do something minorly disruptive & ya gotta do something ya don't do very well. Now as for the wrestler, next time, privy clean-up!

OK, then, would singing Kum-ba-ya be considered corporal punishment? Yes. Is cleaning the latrine as punishment the same as doling out push-ups as punishment?

Owned a Ford Explorer. Love it but it was in the shop a lot. Owned a couple Chrysler mini-vans. liked 'em but they were in the shop a lot. My son owned a GMC Jimmy. He loved it but it was in the shop a lot. I now own two Toyota's. Love 'em both and they are never in the shop. My son bought a Scion! He loves it & it is never in the shop! Think we will stick with Toyota! Ya wanna bring gas prices down? Take NYMEX outta the mix & supply & demand will determine the price not speculators!

A Scoutmaster's Conference is a participate requirement. Yeah the SM needs to sign off ONLY that a SM Conference took place. Nothing more. Yes Council Advancement Committee does have some discretion in this matter. The unit, however, does not. And since this hasn't gotten past the unit level, your point is moot! Things are different from council to council. This council might not require letters of recommendation. They might call the people listed on the Eagle application.
-
The Scoutmasters' approval is required by personal signature, before the pre-EBOR council processing.. John, I never posted the SM signature wasn't required! Also go back and review ACP&P #33088. The method for providing Eagle reference info is spelled out, to include the option for the Council Advancement Committee to have the Scout deliver shells of reference forms (and mail-in envelopes). The key word phrase is "option for the Council Advancement Committee" not the unit or District. And the key word in the phrase is "option" which does not mean required. It really makes no difference what your son did to cross this SM. The question is has he completed everything he needs to complete to become an Eagle. If he has, the SM Conference should be held & signed-off. And let's not forget, a SM Conference isn't a pass/fail requirement. All the Scout has to do is participate.
-
Short answer - No. I'm sure someone else will post the long answer.

It's discouraged.

Flashlight tag & laser tag are not the same thing!

Psst. Letters of reference are not required. The requirement is for the Eagle Candidate to list those who would be willing to give him a reference. There is nothing that states that reference MUST be a letter. It could be a phone call, e-mail, text message, fax, etc.

Be ready for pay back!

Could be that maybe the big problem is the cost of labor i.e. salaries to auto workers????

Michael Moore is an idiot! If GM is asking for money to bail them out they should be using the money they asked for to help bail them out! My understanding is that is not what the money was going to be used for. I have no problem with what Obama did. If your gonna use MY money, you better be using it for the reason it was given to you!

I agree that mandatory training should be paid by National! I also feel training should be required. And I'm wondering if it's possible to roll this training into another set so everyone would receive it?

It's never good to paint with a broad brush ScoutMomSD. I would disagree with the broad generalizations in your post, too. They might apply to you & your family, but they don't describe the majority of the population.

Delaying Eagle until near 18 to keep them "active"

I must echo what eagle90 posted. Whoever knowingly does this should be removed from the organization.
