We live by the Scout Oath and law and we lead by example. Do you really want to defend the boorish behavior and lack of concern for safety that these leaders displayed? Fleetfoot has confirmed that they were up util 3:00 AM on Friday night and Saturday night and got up at 6:00 AM and drove kids on 6 hours of sleep in a 48 hour period. You honestly don't see a problem with that or you just want to argue for the sake of arguing? I'm not defending them. I'm just trying to point out that you need to be careful when you generalize that "everyone needs x hours of sleep or" because that isn't always the case. I normally get 4-5 hours a night & work a full 9 hour day and I'm not drained at the end of the day.

I would agree they are not being courteous. I would, however, disagree with your second supposition Brent. You don't know if they are staying up this late the night before they break camp. You don't know if they have completed Risk Zone training or not. These guys might be over the road truckers & use to driving on less sleep than you need.

Your charter rep should be the one to contact your council to have this person removed from your charter. A phone call followed up by a written letter is the best method. Sounds like you shouldn't have any trouble getting the backing of your charter rep!

When compared against the ideal man as the scout law would suppose all in scouting are striving for, the ideal man does not stay up all hours of the night yammering away at the campfire. You want adult bonding join the Elks. Otherwise early to bed early to rise these a virtuous habits which should be encouraged at an early age. What! No bonding around the campfire! The members of this Pack are spreading word about one of them by way of "He's convicted of DUI."While the truth is always the best defense should someone be hit with a slander or libel lawsuit, who wants to pay an attorney to get to the point of having the suit dismissed? I certainly don't. The guy is in jail! He plead guilty! He is convicted of DUI! That is a fact! No slander or libel going on! The dude is guilty!

Obviously, since the man is in jail, we cannot get his resignation or tell him to step down until he gets out. I do believe that he will do the right thing. Since this guy is unavailable, I would go to you charter partner, let them know what happened & have them call you council office & have this guy removed from your charter. I would not wait until he gets out. You need to move on.

Official lights out? Who's official? When I was a SM, the adults liked staying up late, sitting around the campfire chewing the fat. We would get into discussion that lasted long into the morning. We did try to keep the volume down, though. And at summer camp, there were a lot of adults from other units that did the same thing. Oh yeah, we let the boys stay up in their tents as long as they didn't get out of hand! Don't sweat the small stuff.
