  1. From the G2SS: Bold type throughout the Guide to Safe Scouting denotes BSA rules and policies. Pointing any type of firearm (including paintball, dye, or lasers) at any individual is unauthorized. However, law enforcement departments and agencies using firearms in standard officer/agent training may use their training agenda when accompanied with appropriate safety equipment in the Law Enforcement Venturing program. firearm -noun- a small arms weapon, as a rifle or pistol, from which a projectile is fired by gunpowder. Based on the G2SS and the definition of a firearm, supersoakers & squirt guns are OK since they don't use gunpowder.
  2. You can't compare laws regarding porn to laws regarding slavery or apartheid. And bringing up old laws that are still on the books is, well, just looking for a way to justify your argument. Do you really think Scout age kids should be allowed to see and or own hard core porn?
  3. Hal, My name is Ed. I thought the District already sided with the SM & this was the Council level appeal? Am I incorrect? Ed
  4. Related headline: "Rush Limbaugh's Head Explodes". AGAIN!
  5. Quarterly BOR? So there are only four BOR's per year? Not good. BOR's should be scheduled as needed. I'm not sure there is anything that regulates when BOR's should be held or who can request them.
  6. So this person is the information hub for the unit and responsible for recruiting new parents. Interesting. Create a position for something that is already done by other registered volunteers in the unit.
  7. I gotta agree with Barry! The helicopter parents are probably the ones driving this drivel. Common sense people! If it's not a Scouting event, the G2SS doesn't apply!
  8. What if the kid who brought the porn has a standard that approves of it? Then that standard is breaking the law the same as the youth.
  9. All the reasons from Council that you listed are excuses not reasons and all are adding to the requirements and appealable! Time to go to National! I would also send you council exec & council board a letter expressing your displeasure with what has happened. And I would CC National & Mr. Mazucca.
  10. Is there a medical reason for this behavior or is the boy just annoying? Requiring a parent at all Den & Pack stuff can be a good idea if the parent is helpful in dealing with this behavior.
  11. So let me get this straight. . . the SPL has a birthday party in the family pool and since most of the invitees are members of his Scout troop they need to bring their swim tags and place them on the swim board and maintain constant contact with their swim buddies at this non-troop sponsored swim activity. I sure hope junk like this isn't happening! The G2SS only applies to Scouting events not birthday parties!
  12. I'm still trying to figure out what the purpose of this position is?
  13. Dean, I hope you pointed this out to those parents who were the complainers! I agree with the paintball ban. Laser tag, no. Actually, there was a brief window in time where the laser tag ban was lifted from the G2SS! It's back now! National is full of contradictions regarding issues like these!
  14. One passing thought, If a young scout has pictures of his nekid GF on his phone and you confiscate it, you are now in possession of child porn and against the law. I disagree. While the phone is in your possession, the kiddy porn is not yours. And if you feel this is an issue, just remove the sim chip and/or battery! No power or OS, no phone!
  15. Eagle Courts of Honor (ECoH) are individual matters. The unit can or cannot participate. It is completely up to the Eagle & his family.
  16. SMT224, I doubt if an adult confiscates a phone with porn on it they would be considered to be harboring porn. Better than confiscating the phone, just remove the sim chip if it has one and take the battery! All the passwords in the world won't help if there is no power!
  17. Interesting that the SPL was among the watchers. Nice example he is setting. To me, this goes directly to Scout Spirit.
  18. I'm with Lisa. No warning. Call mom & dad then send junior home. The only warning would be if it happens again, junior is gone.
  19. Being marginalized by an ever increasing decadent society is not a bad thing.
  20. There is nothing that states active=registered but upon appeal that seems to be the interpretation. It's so sad this Scout is getting the run around. It seems every step has a new excuse (none are reasons) for not advancing him. And the excuses (none are reasons) for the delays are even worse. I would be getting your council involved & also National at this point. This is a black eye on Scouting.
  21. Express himself differently! "Yeah I'd like to poke him in the eye". Yeah I can see how consensual parenting works! It doesn't!
  22. Beavah hit it on the head! It isn't your call! It's up to the Troop. If the Troop say no cell phones for the youth then your son and all the youth in the unit should do the Scout-like thing and comply. If they don't like the rule, they can work to change it. Until that happens, they should comply with the rule. And, tombitt, unless you are a leader in this unit, you really have no say in the rules of the unit. Your son, however, does.
  23. Apples and oranges, Ed. The BSA only bans things as a CYA maneuver.."risk management". Not so different! Sure for different reasons but a ban none the less!
