  1. Haven't seen it but heard there are minimal reference to merit badges & EDGE heavy.
  2. The registrar told me that EVERYONE needs to fill out a new application, no exceptions, even those who did it as recent as 3 months ago. Who does the registrar get his/her marching orders from or did they make this decision all on their own?
  3. You musta gone to Catholic grade school, Gern, where everyone was right handed when they left regardless of what hand they used when they started!
  4. My thought process was simple. I really liked girls! They smelled really good & were pretty! Still do and still are!
  5. I'm not sure Gern. I think around 12 or 13. What about you?
  6. As I have stated previously, my problem is not with the policy but the attitudes that generated them. What attitude are you speaking if? The attitude that feel men who like to have sex with other men should not be Scout leaders? IMHO this is no different than the conversations we had last century over voting rights and civil rights. Big difference. Homosexuality is a choice. Race & gender aren't.
  7. So, sherm, it's OK the BSA discriminates based on gender but not sexuality choice?
  8. To further clarify, my problem is not with the BSA but with the mindset that discriminating on the basis of sexuality is somehow OK. Girls are not allowed to be members of Packs or Troops. Does that upset you?(This message has been edited by evmori)
  9. Webelos use to be allowed to attend and participate in Boy Scout camporees. No more. Not sure why.
  10. sherm, The BSA is a private organization that can legally set it's own membership requirements. If you don't like it, join an organization that supports your beliefs.
  11. Anybody want a troll house cookie?
  12. This is emotional abuse. Horsehockey! Like Herms posted, maybe his kid was being a jerk & acting stupid. We don't have enough information to be judging what this guy said to his own son!
  13. I've noticed that those who cannot defend the indefensible are usually the first to try to stop the discussion. Is that what is happening here? What is indefensible?
  14. Although it isn't the correct thing to do, it is his son.
  15. El zingo Dean! I wasn't attacking you in any way shape or form. Sorry you felt you needed to toss out zingers instead of explaining why your Pack feel the necessity to have door prizes.
  16. What the heck happened? Did this Troop burn down a camp?
  17. No need to get your knickers in a twist Dean. I just don't see the need for everyone to get something at every Pack meeting. To me, door prizes, regardless of how they are obtained, are not necessary. Glad to hear you Pack is doing so well? Do you attribute the growth to having door prizes at Pack meeting? Would the membership abandon ship if the door prizes went away? I hope the answer to either isn't yes.
  18. I have no problem with using the same activity to fulfill more than one requirement.
  19. Just pointing out that acronyms that were once popular are no longer used! Same thing happens with buzzwords! Remember groovy!
  20. Here's the requirement. Since joining, have participated in five separate troop/patrol activities (other than troop/patrol meetings), two of which included camping overnight. The way I have always read this is two of these five events must be camping overnight. I have never read anything that states all five events can't be overnight camping.
  21. Its FUN to 'win' something. If you are a scout that is not getting an award of some type that month, what is your incentive to show up to the pack meeting? How about because you are a member of the Pack?? If you need to pass out an incentive to just have people show up, maybe you need to look at what you are doing at your Pack meetings. It is a GREAT diversion / transision between portions of the program. Why is that needed? If you need a diversion, maybe you need to look at what you are doing at your Pack meetings. A 3rd reason I can think of is it is a tool of being on time. Better but still not a good reason.
  22. Why is anyone giving out door prizes at Pack Meetings?
  23. Another minor hijack. Learning buzzwords and acronyms is part of required training needed in today's corporate environment. This is simply preparing today's scouts for future corporate leadership. Bull! Buzzwords change constantly! Acronyms are industry specific. Focusing on developing character is a lot more important than learning buzzwords & acronyms. LSMFT!
  24. Once paid no refunds. If the Scout isn't interested nay longer have him removed from your charter.
