  1. Here'smy question - Is a Scouter a real Scouter if he/she doesn't understand pie?
  2. If one blasphemes, does that mean no pie?
  3. uppity 1. affecting an attitude of inflated self-esteem; haughty; snobbish. 2. rebelliously self-assertive; not inclined to be tractable or deferential. Ed's using part 1, Merlyn and Trevorum part 2. I say they're both right. I still don't see I think the word you're searching for is "uppity." That's an old favorite to describe people who force their own government to obey the constitution.
  4. Not in my neck of the woods, Trev! Uppity meant snooty and arrogant!
  5. I think the word you're searching for is "uppity." That's an old favorite to describe people who force their own government to obey the constitution. Huh???? Where did you find that! Uppity means arrogant! And is a Firefox add-on!
  6. The Scout should be neat in his appearance and his uniform should be as correct as possible, with the badges worn properly. And if complete as possible is a suit and tie or a nice shirt & slacks or jeans and a t-shirt then there should be no problem.
  7. Ya make a good point John but since a Scout is to Demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath (Promise) and Scout Law in your everyday life I feel everyday life includes Scouting. If a boy is a model citizen outside Scouting and a total train wreck in Scouting, that is not meeting the requirement. And visa versa applies, too.
  8. Ohh! Pie! I love pie! Make mine a warmed slice of apple with a wedge of sharp cheddar! Oh crap! I don't have my uniform on! May I eat pie while I am un-uniformed?
  9. I noticed the way the incident was described, too. I'd say we have a convicted felon.
  10. Yup uniforming is a method. I have never argued that. But requiring a Scout to wear a uniform to advance is adding to the requirement. If you turn a Scout down for advancement because he is not in uniform, it will get overturned on appeal! And if that is the only reason a Scout is turned down for advancement then I would say someone has lost sight of the purpose of Scouting.
  11. #4 I do not see where having a complete uniform is adding to the requriements. It's part of Scout Spirit, and gives the Eagle candidate to proudly show what he has done to the EBOR. Again having a full uniform at an EBOR is the NORM in every district and council I've been in for the past 27 years. Until a uniform is required to be a member, requiring a uniform for any BOR is adding to the requirements.
  12. Are those post on Scout-L official BSA policy or just opinions?
  13. In our district, which runs all boards for the district, our coordinator goes over everything with a magnifying glass before even thinking about the review board. Once a board is scheduled, he has a check list that is used with the scout to try and make sure he comes totally prepared. One of the things on that list is complete uniform, including pants. And herein lies many of the problems. Requiring a full uniform at an EBOR is adding to the requirements the same way requiring minimum hours for an ELSP is adding to the requirements. There is nothing wrong with going over everything to make sure all the paperwork is completed correctly but adding to the requirements is wrong.
  14. When I was a Scoutmaster, I told every Scout who was going for his EBOR to "expect hot lights and bamboo shoots under the fingernails". I knew this would never happen but my purpose was to let them know this isn't a walk in the park. They needed to know their stuff and they needed to know how to explain things to adults. When I sat on EBOR's I listened more than I asked. And listening usually provoked some really good questions.
  15. And that 3rd person could be anyone.
  16. uz2bnowl, That was a fantastic post! Thanks!
  17. Roughousing does not equal bullying. Like Beavah said, boys play hard & will continue to play hard till someone gets hurt.
  18. Why do they have to get something? Isn't "Thanks for helping" enough? Are we that far gone? I would not count it.
  19. Well, I'm not for nudity or foul language but I don't have to read those books. That is my decision. And I don't like people making personal decisions like that for me.
  20. Ya know, I can't think of one book that should be banned! Why do we need to ban books? Just because we don't like them?
  21. cheffy, Thanks for the update. For what it's worth, I wouldn't sign the application until after the court date. And since there is a court date it sounds like this is a little more serious than turning over trash cans.
  22. How is a politician stretching a story to fit hes/her need anything new?
  23. If she can't get to the bus on time then she is late & should have to pay the consequences! Especially if she ONLY has to go to the end of the driveway!
  24. Yeah! The TC supports the PLC not decides for the PLC. Bad form!
