  1. Well if the uniform is more important than the accomplishment, we have lost the focus of Scouting.
  2. Stosh, There are no minimum hours required! And if I'm not mistaken, it states that right on the workbook. I would fudge nothing. What I would do is go to the Council committee with this Scout and ask them to show you where this 30 hour of your own time requirement is. After they can't produce it, demand they sign the workbook so this Scout can get started on his much needed project.
  3. Call mom & dad and tell them to come and pick up their little gems. When they get there, tell them until these children can act like Scouts they are no longer welcome.
  4. Again, the gallactically stupid stand at the front of inane rules! A 6 year old brings a spork to school and gets suspended! What do they give them to use in the cafeteria to eat?
  5. Rush exploding is a win!
  6. Ohh! I saved money on my water bill by not flushing for a week! Can I get in the running, too?
  7. OK. I blew out my knee playing street hockey in 10th grade. It hurts every day. If I want to get it cleaned up, it wouldn't be covered? Both of my kids were born deaf. Does that mean none of their hearing tests or hearing aids should be covered?
  8. Your DE is wrong. A Scout can work on a merit badge regardless of rank.
  9. How old will this little prodigy be in December?
  10. Let's not be too critical of school boards or administrators. We have these "stupid" rules as a direct result of "stupid" parents and "stupid" public that demand their kids be protected from other kids that attack with weapons, and demand there be no exceptions that let an attacker off free, to be given "another chance". WE set this in motion. WE did. WE did nothing to stop it. Good point to a point. We asked the administrators & school boards to protect our kids while they are in their care. We thought they had some common sense but sadly we were mistaken. Zero tolerance is not a common sense answer. It's the easy way out.
  11. Yup! Reason - if the unit made the assumption that they could wear their uniforms because their UMEA was approved, then that is completely wrong,
  12. "Did the Council Executive Committee give their approval to the unit who turned in their UMEA to wear their uniforms?" Yes. The money was only demanded from the other units. How did the Council Exec Committee give their approval to wear uniforms?
  13. Zero tolerance policies never work. And the answer isn't to home school. The answer is get the school districts to change their policies! How did they find out about the knife in this kid's car in the 1st place?
  14. We did the no cell phones (youth), no soda/pop, ipods/mp3 players in tents & cars only. Cell phones - more of toy Soda/Pop - too much sugar iPods/MP3 Players - not necessary We always stated "Enjoy the outdoors"
  15. Liquid fuels are prohibited. Baloney! Some councils prohibit them but National doesn't!
  16. LisaBob makes a great point with A troop can only provide the opportunity. If boys don't show up, then you work with the ones who are there. And I do have a question - What's the rush?
  17. Yeah ya pointed out that one unit did turn in a Unit Money Earning Application (UMEA). My question was why didn't the others? Were these booths manned by uniformed Scouts? Did the Council Executive Committee give their approval to the unit who turned in their UMEA to wear their uniforms?
  18. What is a "fund raising booth"? What product was sold or what service were rendered? Why wasn't a Unit Money Earning Application filed with the council?
  19. I have no problem understanding Merlyn. And I believe in a lot of the same things you believe in. It seems your beliefs are tied to things you can actually see & touch & smell. Something you would probably classify as real. And that is where we differ greatly. My beliefs go beyond the senses. Can you understand that?
  20. I believe lots of things. Gods aren't among them. And what would some of those things be, Merlyn?
  21. What exactly do you believe Merlyn?
  22. Your Troop should not be wearing the BSA uniform to police the grounds and help with parking unless the Troop has gotten approval from their Council's Executive Board to do so. Why do they need any approval? Is this a fundraiser for he unit or is this service to their charter partner? Regarding the fireworks thing, yes the BSA does prohibit fireworks and as a member of the BSA I would not want my unit to use this as a fundraiser. Is this type of fundraiser prohibited? Well based on this from the Unit Money Earning Application The product must not detract from the ideals and principles of the BSA. one could argue either way.
  23. I never brought up Zeus or bowling. That was you, Merlyn. I know Ed, but if not believing in your god is a belief system, then not believing in Zeus is a belief system, too. In you opinion, Merlyn, not mine. And my God is spelled God not god. If respect is what you seek, respect should be returned.
