  1. Nice spin, Merlyn, but the only thing you are pushing is your atheist agenda under the guise of equality. I wonder how many other things our tax dollars pay for exclude Jews or atheists or pedophiles or Presbyterians or people under five feet tall? The BSA is a private organization that is allowed to set it's own membership guidelines. SCOTUS agreed! You might not like the ruling but that doesn't invalidate it! The only people getting hurt are the kids who need the program LA discontinued.
  2. Ya might have something there, boomerscout. If no tax dollars go to funding the program, is it still a violation?
  3. No, the BSA dishonestly kept rechartering public schools for five years after the Dale decision. They didn't stop until the ACLU threatened to start suing public schools that ran BSA units that excluded atheists: And the public schools dishonestly accepted the charters! Ignorance is no excuse. And yes packsaddle, I know I am not a moron! I'm Irish!
  4. A SM conference can take place anytime! If this Scout had not completed EVERYTHING for rank, then the BOR should have never happened! And realizing that this Scout still had one week to go to complete his POR requirement, the BOR should have stopped and told the Scout to come back when EVERYTHING was complete.
  5. Ed, I agree that school officials were wrong to sign any BSA charters, and that these school officials were either acting dishonestly or out of ignorance. I don't think the BSA can claim ignorance, so that leaves dishonest. Well, Merlyn, at least you agree there is culpability on both sides!
  6. Just trying to point out to Merlyn it takes two to tango and by only presenting one side you don't get the whole picture. But then presenting both sides would only lessen his stance. Morons???? That, sir, was uncalled for.
  7. Thanks for clarifying the "we". You are correct. The list is yours.
  8. The point is still valid OGE. Each party has a part in acceptance of a charter.
  9. Sounds like a good resolution Stosh!
  10. Who is "we"? The old Troop? If so, the list belongs to them.
  11. Ed writes: Merlyn, how do public schools "honestly" accept agreements that discriminate against anyone? They don't. The people agreeing to them are either dishonest or ignorant. And those people would be the public school officials. So Ed, care to answer my question now? How does an "honest" organization end up with agreements that tell public schools to unlawfully discriminate against atheists? I don't know Merlyn. How did the public schools honestly justify accepting a BSA charter knowing it was in violation of what they were allowed to do?
  12. Ed, how does an "honest" organization end up with agreements that tell public schools to unlawfully discriminate against atheists? Merlyn, how do public schools "honestly" accept agreements that discriminate against anyone? Public schools don't have to accept a BSA charter! No one is twisting their arms! Public schools are just as responsible as the BSA! And BTW, it's lawful discrimination, not "unlawful" discrimination!
  13. Ed, thanks for admitting that the BSA is a dishonest organization. Whether public school officials acted dishonestly, or merely out of ignorance doesn't alter the BSA's dishonestly in this matter. An honest organization wouldn't even offer such charters to public schools in the first place. And to spin it a different way An honest organization would never accept a discriminatory charter. Whether the BSA acted dishonestly or out of ignorance doesn't alter the public schools dishonesty in accepting such charters in the first place. Slamming one party when there is a possibility both parties share the blame is dishonest. And I never admitted the BSA was dishonest nor do I believe they are.
  14. And yes, I consider the BSA to be basically dishonest. No honest organization would charter discriminatory BSA units to public schools and expect these schools to break the law and practice religious discrimination. But that's precisely what the BSA did for decades. Yeah the schools had nothing to do with it! It's all the BSA's fault! The school didn't read the charter agreement but that's the BSA's fault! Blah blah! Blame the BSA for global warming! The public schools are just as much to blame as the BSA, Merlyn. You know that but you refuse to present it that way because that lessens your hate for the BSA! You, sir, by presenting it this way, are just as dishonest as you accuse the BSA of being!
  15. What would you do if you had a Life Scout that did not attend a meeting or camping trip for 2 years show up with 21 merit badges signed off and a completed Eagle project? Are all the MB's signed by valid MB counselors? Who signed off on his Eagle project plan and completion?
  16. Ed, both the LA police and fire departments have stated they will create their own programs; they just won't be done through the BSA's Explorer program. As someone (packsaddle?) pointed out in an earlier thread, even as an Explorer program, it's LA police & fire personnel operating the program.
  17. Page 110Section 222(e) requires the use of federal dollars to fund abortions through the government-run health planand, if the Hyde Amendment were ever not renewed, would require the plan to fund elective abortions Bad thing! And from reading this, I'm befuddled as to how this will help anyone?
  18. Thanks BadenP! I'm with you on this! The kids are the losers here. No one else! Yeah you can state someone will pick up the program but I doubt if it will ever happen!
  19. I would agree the kid is just a spoiled brat! I would not make any exception to the menu to accommodate this kids since it seems trying to accommodate him is a moving target!
  20. Once again, for the sake of who knows what, the kids lose!
  21. Sounds like the SPL might have put his own advancement in jeopardy!
  22. You are so right Barry! There is no way to stop anyone from accusing us of anything except our character. If that is beyond reproach then accuse away!
  23. The food list has a great variety of textures! Me thinks this little child needs to get away from mom's apron! I would let the PL's develop their menus and if the lad eats he eats! If he doesn't oh well! This isn't Baby Sitters of America!
  24. Sorry, Lisa, I should explain that in our council not only is the Scout required to collect the letters and turn in them in with his applicaton (or the application is rejected by staff without further review), but apparently the letters are supposed to be in sealed envelopes and never seen by the Scout. The references didn't put the letters in envelopes sealed or otherwise, so he just included them in the notebook. I got an earfull because I failed to realize that as Scoutmaster it is my job to know which national policies our council chooses to ignore and to find out the local rules they make up instead. I would take a copy of the advancement thing with me and ask these lovely people where does it state the Scout HAS to do anything except supply the names for references. I'd love to people like this out back!
  25. If I'm not mistaken, the workbook can be typed or handwritten. My son hand wrote his.
