Your analogies, trainerlady, while accurate are not applicable. All of the organizations and companies you used in your analogy require the participants or employees to own a uniform. The BSA does not. And until it does, turning a Scout away from any BOR for not wearing one is adding to the requirements.

Requiring a Scout to wear his uniform for a BOR is adding to the requirements. This might be in your Troop bylaws, but it is not part of BSA advancement.

Debate all you want above is the truth. While National's definition is what you stated, that is not the definition of Scout Spirit. And if that is YOUR definition of Scout Spirit I suggest you re-read the Scout Oath & Law.

What would it take for you as a SM to refuse to sign off on Scout Spirit and/or the Scoutmaster's Conference for Eagle? I would never refuse to sign off on a SM Conference since this is a "participate in" requirement.

evmori, I don't understand where you're coming from. If "parent or guardian" can be interpreted to refer to a temporary guardian, then a non-relative Scoutmaster or ASM could tent with a Scout. That's clearly not the intent and purpose of the G2SS and YP rules. "Parent or guardian" has a very clear meaning in general usage. If you use a very loose interpretation of "guardian," then it seems that any temporary guardian could sign permission slips, medical forms, etc. That's clearly not how things work. Lots of contradiction in the wording throughout the G2SS and even on the permission form. Unless you are the author of the document, I doubt if you know what the intent and purpose of the document is. "Parent or guardian" Do you see the word legal? I don't. And as I stated, this is inconsistent throughout the G2SS. This should be corrected by National then there is no question.

The official answer is that they would need to tent seperate from you. And where is this "official" answer in the G2SS?

From the G2SS Separate accommodations. When camping, no youth is permitted to sleep in the tent of an adult other than his own parent or guardian. If you are deemed this boy's guardian for the weekend by his parents, he can stay in the same tent with you. The ideal situation would be both boys stay in a tent and you in yours. Plus, the suggestion of a backyard trial run is a great idea.

This does sound like an Eagle Mill Troop. Churn out as many Eagles as you can regardless of whether they actually earn it or not! Sad.

Well, tiredscouter55, when someone posts something like this and the resolution takes way longer than it should it brings up a lot of questions! We were helpful, courteous and kind. And let us not forget the 1st point - Trustworthy.

So if it is reasonable to expect leaders and youth in a uniform at EBORs, then what should we do if they do not meet those expectations? Well, if the Scout isn't in uniform the EBOR can ask him why he isn't in uniform. And if the EBOR isn't in uniform the Scout should be able to ask them why they aren't in uniform.

Sure it's reasonable to expect what you posted, Eagle92, but to require it or deny a Scout advancement because of it is wrong.
