Quixote, As far as I know, there are no rank requirements for activities other than the ones you listed & Jamboree. There might be some skill requirements like being a swimmer to go on a canoe trip. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Need to Reregister as Merit Badge Counselor
evmori replied to andrews's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Brad, From what I understand, as long as you BSA registration is active, so are you as a merit badges counselor. I have heard of councils requiring re-registration every year, though. I would check with your council advancement chairman to be sure. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 -
Point well made redundantly.!

It might be more cost efficient to just buy new mess kits. Sometimes the parts can be almost as expensive as the whole! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

I like the stuff method. It would make it a lot easier to pack up when breaking camp! I always leave the tent door & windows "ajar" so I can get the air out. Packs tighter, ya know! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

I agree with Quixote. Since this den has three WL, I would have one of the other leaders be the one who signs off on the pin. Similar situations will come probably come up if this dad becomes a Boy Scout leader. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Tim, Not to digress from the thread but, wearing the Arrow of Light as a Scout on your Boy Scout uniform is compeltely different for wearing a day camp patch on your Boy Scout uniform. Once a Webelos crosses over to Boy Scouts, the only Cub patch he can wear is the AOL. And once a Scout turns 18, he is considered an asult & the AOL & Eagle badges are to be replaced by knots. And now, back to the thread! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Sager, We have had similar situations in my Troop. We give each new Scout a gear list they will need to bring on almost every camping trip. We go over what to pack & what not to pack. Electronic devices are a definite NO. After a couple of trips, the Scouts improve. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Kids need and want their parents to be their "parents" not their friends. If a parent is a parent then their kids will learn to respect them & consider them friends. Bob, I had the same problem with my profile. Check the thread that deals with it. I think I found a temporary solution. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Could everyone please update their public profiles?
evmori replied to Mike Long's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I think I figured out the problem. When I enter my past Scouting positions I get an error. Also, if I type in more that can be viewed without scrolling in the Interests box, I get an error. I updated what I could. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 -

eisley, Yup your are correct. Games of chance are forbidden. And this includes Chinese Auctions! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Rooster7, You over sensetive? NAH!!!!!!!! I feel it makes no difference if a merit badge is earned with a group or as an individual. The important thing is did he learn & earn the badge or just "get" the badge. IMHO, the advencement chairman was out of line. I hope this is your Troop advancement chair. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Grey Fox, Yes we are charted by a church (since 1912) and the history was what I had been using for years. But thanks for your input! I forgot to bring what I did do for the presentation today. DUH! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

I keep all my patches in a box. I am still trying to think of a way to display them. I don't like the idea of putting them on my wool-jac. I still wear my old council strip from before the merger. I also have an "Untrainable" patch I wear instead of the Trained patch. This one cause people to ask "Why untrainable?" I tell them 1st you need to be trained to be untrainable. You should see the look I get from Scouts! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

I will try to remember to bring it to work tomorrow. Send me your e-mail address & I'll send it off. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

I have never been a big fan of "merit badge colleges" for a variety of reasons. It seems the most of the Scouts who attend EXPECT to "get" the badges they signed up for just because they were in the classes. I feel a counselor working with a smaller group of Scouts (5-10) can teach more in the same time & get more participation from the Scouts. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

In my Troop, there are 4 quartermasters. 1 per patrol & 1 Troop. Assistant PL is not considered a position of responsibility for rank purposes in the handbook. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

sctmom, Those pictures would be great for your son's Eagle Court of Honor. Ed

Bob, Sorry if you thought I was getting hostile. I wasn't. With all the "I'll sue you" going on, I feel we as adults are in a better position to administer & control a Scouts meds that the Scout is. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Split councils??? And make them smaller? Not the BSA way!
-
I guess I better explain. My district runs a program Webelos Woods. This is an all day event that culminates with the 2nd year Webelos crossing over to their new Troops. This is for all Cubs & their families. It is also my understanding that National has stated that Webelos are not allowed to participate in Boy Scout camporees. At least that is the way my district has interpreted it. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1

Bob, If I want to drop a badge & pick up a new one, do I need to go thru the same paperwork? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1
-
Do any of your councils/districts have the Webelos Woods program? If so, how do you feel about it? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1
-
Bob, As a leader, I don't want the responsibility of NOT handling the meds. Some of these Scouts are too young to realize the importance of doing this properly! Imagine a Scout forgets to take his meds in the morning so decides to double up in the afternoon. This spells disaster! All the training one needs to administer meds is to read the prescription on the bottle. Requiring a parent to go on camping trips just because their son needs his medication could be punishment for both the parent & child. It could also be detrimental to the Troop. As for my Troop, we will continue as we have in the past unless the BSA passes a regulation - not a suggestion - that tells us to stop. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1
