Lisa, The BSA is not a religious organization. And I find it extremely interesting that people get their nickers all twisted because the government is a charter BSA partner yet the same people say nothing that the same government employs ministers and other religious people!

Ed, I listed some of the groups I considered illegal on page 2 of the "LDS membership declines" thread. And since you quoted and responded what I wrote, you obviously read it, and you obviously still can't learn things, or you'd already know some groups I consider to be illegally chartering units, because you read, quoted, and responded to that only two days ago. Everything after the 1st line was nothing more than a personal attack. And a cheap one at that! Again the bully attacks!

The requirement is to go camping, cook food, earn a merit badge, hike a trail, SERVE in a position of responsibility, work on service projects. These are the things that make a boy ACTIVE. The obvious problem with an attendance percentage requirement is that it does not make a boy active. A boy sitting through another dull troop meeting, playing with his cell phone or poking the kid next to him and being a pest is not being active. Hes just being a pest. Yet, some troop adult can declare he is active because his attendance percentage is over some arbitrary figure. Making the assumption Troop meetings are dull is not accurate. National defining active as being registered is just as pointless as using attendance percentages. Neither makes a boy "active" but they do make the numbers look good.

And did ya notice the drop to 0 in most of those government agencies chartering BSA units? It appears you are making some assumptions, Merlyn, as to those units chartered by gov't. What are you counting as a gov't organization?

You haven't shown that any of the law enforcement agencies that have a charter knowingly agreed to an illegal contract; the BSA, however, having been threatened with a lawsuit, has no such excuse. Knowingly or unknowlingly makes no difference Merlyn. Sorta like receiving stolen merchandise. Ignorance is not an excuse! And in the same vein, Merlyn, you haven't shown that any law enforcement agency didn't know they were agreeing to an illegal contract! And let us not forget, SCOTUS ruled the BSA was legally allowed to discriminate!

Wrong, Beavah. Knowingly offering an illegal contract is illegal. Keep trying to apply that whitewash if you like, but it doesn't change the BSA's dishonest conduct. And knowingly accepting an illegal contract is illegal. The door swings both ways. So I guess you are back peddling again!

No Ed, when one party in a contract is being deliberately dishonest, you can't assume both sides are equally culpable. And you know for an absolute fact the BSA is being deliberately dishonest and the charter partner is not? Besides, because other people may or may not be dishonest does not excuse the BSA's continued, deliberate, illegal dishonesty. And you have proof of this? Based on your 2 year old list? I have a list that is 3 years old that shows the BSA no longer has units with those organizations.

Ed, the BSA dishonestly said they would stop chartering units to government entities. Why do they still have 85 units chartered to "Law Enforcement Agencies"? Answer: because the BSA is dishonest. The answer could be because the charter partner is dishonest as well! But that doesn't matter does it, Merlyn. And another answer is maybe the charter partner doesn't care about it! The BSA still isn't honest, it has a few hundred "traditional" charters with law enforcement agencies and correctional institutions, plus I'm sure a lot of the playgrounds & recreation centers in their list are unlawful, too. Ah! The old not honest ploy again! It's getting old Merlyn! The charter partner is just as honest as the BSA yet you fail to mention this!
