  1. K9, Stick to your guns. Like eisley said, this seems intentional. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Eagles have no fear & great eyesight! Bears are well lazy! Welcome OGE to the land of the singers & bead wearers! I used to be an Eagle A good old Eagle too Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 PEter 4:10
  3. Bob, I never said that the older Scout lurking in the shadows suggest the younger Scouts was the provoker. What I said was that since the older Scout was lurking in the shadows and knew his goose was cooked, he might have decided to just fess up & take his lumps. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Bob, I find nothing wrong with using the word provoke. From what I read, the older Scout took the chair but the younger Scout didn't mind. So saying he stole it is not correct. Now he was wrong in not giving it back & his other actions that followed. It is, however possible, the younger Scout asked in an un-Scoutlike fashion for his chair back & that could be the reason why the older Scout refused. The older Scout was still wrong. OGE, I still think it is possible the older Scout was provoked. Remember, he was lurking in the shadows when the younger Scout was telling the adults what happened & the older Scout probably decided to fess up when asked. I don't condone the older Scout bevhavior. I don't think letting a parent dictate Troop policy is wise either. There is a possibility the next time something happens the younger Scout doesn't like might cry wolf to mom & dad & they will get the problem solved. That's not a good situation. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Excellent posts OGE. Still never got my questions answered if the younger Scout provoked the older Scout's response. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. nvidia. One of the best graphics cards ever! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Thought we were talking about sexual misconduct not abuse. These aren't necessarly the same. Ethnic Intimidation in some states is also illegal but the BSA doesn't require it to be reported? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Bob, But what really is the difference!!! Ethnic intimidation is just as bad and in some cases worse than sexual conduct. Neither has a place in Scouting or anywhere else in the world/ Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. I'll be there Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Let's onsider red feather's post. WHat if one Scout called another a Ni****. Is that the same as what started this thread? Wouldn't that be ethnic intimidation? (not listed as a reportable offense) Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

  12. I make my own firestarters in fiber egg cartons using dryer lint & candle wax. Works great! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Gang, For some reason I got disconnected from the chat session last night & couldn't get back on. Didn't want you to think I was being rude. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. OGE, The reason I keep asking if the younger Scout did anything to provoke the actions by the older Scout is it might have happened. Did the younger Scout say anything to the older Scout before trying to get his chair back? Did he ask by saying "Hey fa***t, give me my chair". We don't know. I still don't condone the older Scouts behavior. I have another question. If the younger Scout was so upset by this incident, why did he wait until later that night to talk to the aduls about it? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. We are talking about a father & son, correct? What exactly was done that was considered excessive under BSA guidelines? It seems we may be stepping on toes here. If the father was discplining his own son and no one else was involved and there was no abuse then where is the problem?? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Misconduct - Wrong conduct; bad behavior;mismanagement Nothing about illegal. Wrong & illegaal are not synonyms. And we still don't know if the younger scout did anything to provoke the situation. And remember, when the older Scout took the chair, the younger Scout didn't care. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Alright folks. Let's fight nicely! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Eagle_SM, Yep that's what I was getting at. Thanks. We still don't know if the younger Scout provoked the older Scout's responses. I'm not saying that what the older Scout did was correct. It wasn't and must be dealt with. The adult leaders of the Troop did deal with it. Maybe they didn't do as much as they should have since it seems this Scout has exhibited this type of behavior in the past. But kicking the kid out is not the appropriate action. Suspend him & give him a chance to realize the error of his ways. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. I still don't feel this is a "kick the kid" out offense. It sounds like he has used up chances, though & should be suspended from the Troop. I still don't see the sexual part of it. Bullying yes. Sexual no. Kids like this need the program. They need the structure. The only other thing I would like to know is did the younger Scout provoke this behavior from the older Scout? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. NJCubScouter, The Scouts in my Troop don't dance with each other. I was refering to the type of dancing these guys might do at school dances. Is that sexual harassment? I think not. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. mk9750, I don't agree with " If a Board of Review, in good faith (not trying to circumvent the rules) determines that a scout has met the requirements for a rank, he is that rank." The requirements for Life state that a Star Scout needs "to earn 5 more merit badges (11 in all) including any 3 more from the required list for Eagle". If this requirement isn't met, then technically the Scout didn't meet the requirement for Life and therefore isn't a Life Scout. Ignorance on the part of the BOR is no excuse. The Scout has the handbook & it is written very clearly in the handbook. Remember, the key word is still technically. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Is it good these guys are at Woodbadge? Yes. Does the reason matter? Yes. Why? I have been told I must attend training classes for my job that I didn't want to take for one reason or another. I went & basically it was a waste. It could be the same thing for these guys. Their boss might have some type of quota to meet for Woodbadge trained professionals. Hopefully, these guys got something out of one of the best training courses I ever took. "I used to be an Eagle ......" Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. scoutmom, "any act that includes "humping" has a sexual meaning." Guess you don't condone dancing, either? Considering the 2nd post, this Scout should have at least been suspended since this wasn't the 1st time this type of behavior has occured. I'm still not in favor of kicking him out. Bob, I agree about the unalterable policy. But the way it is worded using "may result in the revocation of a Scout's membership in the unit" doesn't mean this type of behavior automatically dictates removal. The unit leaders are given the latitude to determine what action should be taken. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Bob & I have gone toe to toe in quite a few instances. Usually because we interpret thing differently. I view Bob as a wealth of knowledge who makes me think about the way I do things as a Scout leader. I'm glad Bob is an avid poster on this board. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. Dan, Just had a YP refresher & to me this doesn't fall under sexual harassment. The way the adults handled the situation was correct. Sucumbing to pressure from a parent only undermines the adult leaders ability to deal with these situations. And considering the Scout admitted to everything, I don't feel anything else neede to be done. Now, there is a possibility that the younger Scout who was bullied can "cry wolf" and his dad will see that the offender (whether anything happened or not)is repermanded. Not a good situation. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
