Is this some kind of record for First Class?
evmori replied to Zorn Packte's topic in Open Discussion - Program
9 events in 6 months? Most Troops onl have obe event per month. I would definitely question mom on what the events were. Boy Scouts isn't Cubs. The Scouts need to learn what was signed off! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Periodic uniform inspections are good. It is also important the adults wear the uniform in the correct manner. This will help set the example for the Scouts. There is a BSA publication regarding uniforming but I can't remember the title. Bob White, could you help out with this one? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Common problem. One year before we left for summer camp, I asked a Scout if he had something with him. He turned to mom & asked "Did you pack it?" I immediately said "You're mom's not going camping with you. I suggest you look." This is one of the things I feel Scouting teaches boys - to be reliant on themselves. If a Scout holds a POR & does nothing in this position, it is the responsibility of the SM to have a sit down with this Scout & explain the duties & responsibilities of the position. If the Scout feel he can't carry out those duties & responsibilities or the SM feels this way, it is the responsibiility of the SM to remove the Scout for his POR. If a Scout does nothing in his POR & completes the tenure required and has completed all the other rank requirements, he can advance. IT is too late to point out that the Scout did nothing in his POR & hold back advancement. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

OGE, Yes he still be a member of the Troop. In fact, he will be a member of the Troop until it is time to recharter. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

firstpusk, Sorry. Got people confused. Correct me if I' wrong, but didn't Darwin come up with the theory of evolution? And in that theory, didn't he feel humans evolved form apes? Was he a creationist prior? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

sctmom, Never said I have attendance requirements for Troop meetings. I do expect the Scouts to be at all Troop meetings unless they have a good excuse. I also expect my SPL, ASPL, etc. to have excellent aqttendance records. Setting the example, you know. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Bob, You didn't answer my question and I know what the requirement says. For the most part, I only see the Scouts in my Troop at Troop meetings & other Troop activities. My gauge of how they live the Scout Oath & Law in their everyday life is what I see at Troop meetings & Troop activities. So I will ask again, so what you are saying is Scouting isn't part of a Scouts everyday life? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

firstpusk, Clarity isn't the issue. Evolution is. Living things adapt & sometimes changes occur. They don't evolve. My post was stating if we (humans) evolved from monkeys, how come monkeys still exist? Your tree anolgy was way off base & completely pointless. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
Bob, Correct me if I'm wrong but one of the points of the Scout Law is a Scout is loyal. Does poor attendance at Troop meetings indicate the Scouts loyality to the Troop? Also, I recently went back & checked the records of our last 7 Eagles and none of them were 1st Class in their 1st year. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Bob, Sorry. I have my own feeling about things like this. I can't be a mindless drone. There is nothing that says attendance is not part of a Scouts responsibility for advancement. Just because it isn't written in a BSA manual doesn't mean it isn't important. To me, attendance is one part of Scout Spirit. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

While there is no requirement for attendance, I still feel it is important. I encourage all my Scouts to attend al meetings & events. I also realize they are involved in many other things. I tell them that Scouts comes after family & school. I also think they Scouts need to make a choice between Scouts & other activities. They must be willing to make the commitment to Scouts to be successful. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

We get out once a month & go to summer camp. We usually average around 25 nights. 32 is excellent! Keep camping! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

The time requirement for rank starts at Star. There is a 4 month minimum between 1st Class & Star, 6 months between Star & Life & 6 months between Life & Eagle. If you Troop uses the 1st Class Emphasis then it is possible for a Scout to earn his Eagle in 28 months. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

To me, evolution means something evolved from something else like we came from monkeys. Comparing my post to trees is ludicrous. And stating your children decended from your grandparents is just as bad. Both are people! Darwin was the one, not creationists who started the evolution theory. Creationists argue that all things were created by God & nothing, especially humans, evolved from soemthing else. Oh yeah, God did make man from clay & He made woman for man. Nothing evolved. LIfe adapts! I know nothing about these crickets. Did you ever think of the possibility they became extinct? Could be! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys and apes? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Another good reason to get training!

Bob White, Excellent post! Another reason to go through training is so you know how to apply what the BSA has to offer for your unit. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Welcome kruggiano, A good camp staffer is one who is willing to do whatever it takes (within reason) to make the week at summer camp enjoyable for the Scouts & Scouters. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Separate Eagle Ceremonies for Two Eagles
evmori replied to bt5eagle's topic in Open Discussion - Program
In my Troop, the Eagle & his family handle the all the arrangements for the COH. I assist in the ceremony planning & the Troop handles the actual ceremony. Let them have separate ceremonies. I see nothing wrong with this. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
