    Rumors

Bob, I thought BALOO training was necessary if Wolves & Bears went camping. I thought if you were taking Webelos camping, you needed WOLT? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. sctmom, It sounds like you need to find a Troop that does things that interest your son. Does he like sports? If so, try to find a Troop that is more sports oriented. Does he like camping? Try to find a Troop that loves to camp. Don't take this next comment wrong. Maybe the problem is he isn't ready to "cut the cord" from you yet & this is his barrier to Boy Scouts. You need to remember that everything in Scouting isn't fun. Going on campouts requires packing, loading trucks with gear, setting up the site, cooking, cleaning, breaking camp, loading up the trucks again & driving home to unload. A lot of younger boys don't like this aspect because it isn't "fun" and in a lot of cases, have never had to do it! I hope this helps. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. I don't think LBJ didn't run again because he was torn up about the Vietnam war. I think he was tired of all the pressure to continue a war he didn't agree with. President Bush seems like the real deal. I was skeptical when he was elected but so far he has done an OK job. He needs to find a way to kick start the economy, though. A little more agressive investigating & prosecuting the Enron/Adelphia/World Com thieves would help. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Rooster, You have a point but I don't think there is much of a chance of what you are saying to happen. 1st, adults inducted in the OA must be nominated by the Troop then approved by the local chapter. I don't know how much of a backround check they do but I do know at least in my area they do check anything they aren't sure of or have questions about. For a pedophile to get into the OA as an adult is not as easy as you think. I actually think it would be easier for a pedophile to become an adult leader in a Troop! 8. Singing, skits, run-ons! Love 'em! I get to act like a kid again! Most of the adults in my Troop enjoy participating in these! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. What realy chaps my thighs about this thread is an adult who has completed Woodbadge & never got any of the stuff they were taught! It sounds like this mom is in Boy Scouts for herslf not her son. And that is the wrong reason to be involved. Training is an essential part of the BSA but all the training in the world won't help someone who doesn't understand in the 1st place. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. In my former life as a Webelos leader, I signed all the requirements for my den. While I was Cubmaster, I advised the Wolf & Bear den leaders that the parents could sign off on the requirements, but if they had any questions as to the completion of a requirement it was completely within their right to recheck the Cub. I encouraged Webelos leaders to not let parents sign the requirements since they were completed in the den & not at home. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. I agree with shemgren. Pay attention to the wording of the requirements. If it says demonstrate that means the Scout must do something. If it says have knowledge of then the Scout must know what is required. He might not need to do anything other than have knowledge of the requirement. I counsel merit badges the same way. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. rlculver415, I have a real issue with your post. If the counselors at summer camp won't accept partials, then I would take it to the program director. If you get no satisfaction there, then go to the camp director. I can understand if the counselor wants to go over the completed requirements on a partial merit badge but not accepting a partial is not in line with the merit badge program. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Personally, I don't like air matresses. They are uncomfortable & don't give much support. I carry a Coleman camp cot when we go camping. The other thing about air matresses is you need something to pump them up. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. You have a good future in either the housekeeping or food service industry. I've quit better jobs!
  15. Homemade firestarters made from dryer lint, candle wax & fiber egg cartons. Soup in a bread bowl! Excellent & no clean-up (except the spoon). Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Bob, I must have a different form than you couse min says seven days/nights long term. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Whatever they do, bring back the bring back the big side pockets on the pants! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Eagle in 17 months? I gotta ask, What's the rush? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Bob, In my council the requirement for OA is 15 days/nights camping with 1 week of long term camping. To me that's 7 days/nights. I thought the OA requirements were the same country wide? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. It seems the adults mentioned in the thread are in Boy Scouts for themselves. They seem to forget the 1st word in Boy Scouts is Boy! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Bob, Actively serve. OK If he does nothing & is not told about it until his SMC or BOR, is that fair? Is it fair to the rest of the Troop to let a, for the lack of a better word, nonfunctional Scout in a POR contimue? I would answer NO to both questions. If the Scouts don't want to remove him because they are friends then isn't this detrimental to the Troop? I would say YES. Being a SM, I can't see letting a Scout in a POR who is not doing his job continue. This does no one any good. And if the Scouts won't rectify the situation, I will. Bob, where exactly would I find how a Scout is removed from a POR? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. OK mom is a ASM. Is she trained? I would hold a skills camping trip for the entire Troop. Make sure this kid is there. This way, you can find out how much he knows as well as reinforcing what the rest of the Troop knows. Keep mom away from the Scouts. I would tell her the boys need to do this on her own. I had a kid like this only dad was the culprit. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
