Another week goes by and we still know nothing! The longer this goes on without resolution the less believable it becomes! And yeah those of you who claim to know information about this appeal will harrumph but still won't post anything to prove you actually have 1st hand knowledge of the situation. I will continue to post here until we hear the results of this appeal. I'm gonna bet the thread gets shut down or I pass away 1st.

Nice but not an Eagle project!

what *do* we allow youth leaders to decide?
evmori replied to Lisabob's topic in Open Discussion - Program
What do we allow the youth leader to decide? I think the question should be "What do we let the adult leaders decide?" As adults, we are there to make sure the boys dot their i's & cross their t's and see they don't kill each other. -
Well as far as I know the Supreme Court was a full time paid job with a full time paid staff. Most of the people involved with this appeal are unpaid volunteers. Even the folks that rule on the National appeal are Council advancement committee people from various councils. There must be tens of thousands of appeals for this to take so long! And SCOTUS appeals are much more involved! When is someone coming clean and really letting us know what happened?

WAKWIB, By criminal I meant maybe he got caught defacing public property or swiping candy from the convenience store or smoking pot behind the stadium. Yeah I beat the drum about not adding to the requirements but is that what is happening here? The way I read it is his POR in 2007 was for rank but his current POR was not up to standard. And if that was the only thing, this appeal would have been over 37 pages ago. I love SM conferences! No I haven't apologized for calling this a hoax. I said I would once we know what the final outcome is and we don't know that yet. If I say I will do something, I will. xxxx (This message has been edited by a staff member.)

See Ed? It's pointless to try and argue with you. You simply make up stuff about other people's opinions as if that's sane. I made nothing up. That is my opinion based on your posts! You don't have to like it but I am entitled to it! Stick with that "it's pointless" stuff, Merlyn. When you are backed into a corner and have no answer that is what you always end up posting. If my assumptions are incorrect, prove me wrong.

Ed, I have zero interest in discussing issues with someone like yourself who starts out by assuming someone else's position without asking first. There's absolutely no point. Well, Merlyn, I'm gonna take that as you aren't going after the taxpayer funded chaplains with the same vigor you are going after the BSA. And yeah go ahead and claim I can't learn! That's you stock line when you have nothing else. All this tells me is your sole purpose is to destroy the BSA! Read again. Every statement made an assumption about my position. You can argue with Ed if you like, I won't stop you. And you refuse to answer any question regarding your position, Merlyn. I'll bet it's because you don't have a position on this matter! Kinda funny! As they say, Merlyn, s**t or get off the pot!

Troop letter of denial is dated April 18, 2009 District letter of denial is dated May 28, 2009 Council letter of denial is dated June 24, 2009 Justins letter of appeal to National was dropped off at Council beginning of Sept. according to an Email mdsummer sent me. I know from a phone conversation she had with me in Dec that National did receive his appeal. We also spoke a couple of weeks ago after she contacted National as to status of appeal, she stated that it still was in process. We are into month 8 since the council denial and month 4 since the National appeal was dropped off. And you folks don't think this is excessively long? SCOTUS decides cases faster! For National to take this long, there is something exceptionally serious regarding this appeal. What did this Scout do? I wanna say there is something criminal involved.
-
Well are you Merlyn? And what is you position on taxpayer funded chaplains?
-
Merlyn, Why aren't you trying to eliminate tax payer funded chaplains with the same vigor you are trying to eliminate government chartered BSA units?

Eagle732, A Scoutmaster Conference is not a pass/fail requirement. It is a "participate in" requirement. Have one and you have to sign it off as completed. And remember, it's Scout Spirit in his "everyday life" which includes Scouting but isn't limited to Scouting. You would be remiss if you didn't delve into what this Scout was doing while he wasn't at meetings and campouts. For all you know, he has been the equipment manager for a wheelchair basketball youth team which is Scout Spirit.

Ev what facts do you feel are still missing? What facts? What did this kid do to give everyone up to the council level the reason to turn him down for Eagle? There is more to this story than we have been told and apparently there are a few who post here that know more yet refuse to post it. All that does is lessen the credibility of the whole story. From what I have read in this and another forum, this has been going on since around the beginning of 2009. Well over 6 months ago. nldscout maybe you should ask your friend how old he oldest appeal out there is?

Overall the ads were poor. The game and The Who were excellent.

Twocubdad proves my point! To insinuate that I am perpetuating a hoax is equivalent to calling me a liar. Well, Eagle732, since this appeal is taking an exceptionally abnormal amount of time and you seem (at least from your posts) to have some knowledge of what is going on tell us what is going on and whay it is taking so long. All we want is the facts and to this point it appears there are many facts we are missing.
-
There is STILL no answer from National? What did this kid do? You claim to know a lot about this Eagle732. How about some more facts for those who are interested! If there are any facts.

Specific examples of everyone? Let's see, there's me, you, that guy over there... Well that sure isn't everyone now is it! Why aren't you going after the government chaplains your tax dollars are directly paying for with the same intensity you are going after the BSA, Merlyn?
-
I'm not moving the goalposts at all, Ed. I'm asking which examples in his copied & pasted list are supposed examples. Yeah you are Merlyn. Scoutfish's list was a direct answer to your I know of no atheist group that advocates the above, and I'm familiar with a great many of them and you only addressed the comment at the end of his post. And why aren't you going after the government chaplains your tax dollars are directly paying for with the same intensity you are going after the BSA, Merlyn?
-
Ya keep moving the target Merlyn. You state In my view, totally preventing the expression of faith in public is condoning atheism. I know of no atheist group that advocates the above, and I'm familiar with a great many of them. and when presented with a rather large list that disprove your statement hear nothing and you move on to something else. You are correct NJ, but why isn't their such a big stink from Merlyn and his ilk about his tax dollars paying a preacher as their are about the government chartering a BSA unit? Sound like selective prosecution to me!
-
If you are talking about chaplains in the military, I would say probably not, the government is not practicing religion, it is providing for the spiritual needs of those in the military. If I'm not mistaken, the House or Senate or both employ a chaplain. And even if there are only military chaplains, our tax dollars are funding them.
-
boomerscout, I'm stopping my own government from unlawfully discriminating against atheists. You have a problem with religious freedom? And exactly how is your government unlawfully discriminating against atheists, Merlyn?
-
Ed, "separation of church and state" is exactly what at least some of the Framers meant, as indicated in their writings. NJ, I disagree. One of the reasons the Framers left their homeland and came here was to have religious freedom. They didn't want the state dictating their religious beliefs and visa versa. In any event it doesn't really matter, because that is how the religion clauses have been interpreted -- correctly, in my opinion. Incorrectly in my opinion. Why would we want it any other way? The government should not be practicing religion, should not be imposing religious practices or beliefs on anyone, and should not be interfering in religion. The "wall of separation" metaphor seems as good as any a way to describe this concept. How is the government practicing religion by sponsoring a BSA unit? And since the government employs priests and ministers, is that practicing religion?
-
Ah Lisa but those are crimes! Separation of church and state is the interpretation. I don't think that is what our founding fathers meant.
