  1. To me, a signed merit badge card indicates approval. Same as whne you sign your kid's report card! And by the SM giving the Scout the name of a qualified MB counselor, the SM is picking the counselor, not the Scout. Still looking for that page # about merit badges not being a recommended Troop activity. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. God is not a female! God is a male! I'm not going to give Bible references since it refers to God the Father all over the Bible. IMHO, the ACLU is a bunch of people who want things their own way & will do whatever they can to get it. They say their sole purpose is to uphold the Constitution but they are the 1st ones who shoot it down! They seem to walk over the right of people who they don't agree with & interpret the Constitution & Bill of Rights in ways they see fit! Bunch of morons in my opinion. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. acco, Sorry! I thought that was posted by cub_dad giving his address. My bad! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. The Boy Scout Handbook tells a Scout he can pick his own badges but he must have approval form his SM & the SM picks the counselor. Now if the PLC decides they want to set aside 1 meeting each month for merit badge instruction, so be it! It is their program. And I can't seem to find where in the Scoutmaster Handbook where it says teaching merit badges is not recommended as a Troop activity. Anyone got a page #? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Let's see. The BSA requires a belief in a supreme being. In my case that would be God. In some other religions that might not be God. Mr. Lambert refuses to meet this requirement so he can't be a member of the BSA. What's the problem? Does this make him a bad Scout? I say yes because he obviously can't live up to the Scout oath since he can't do his duty to God since he doesn't acknowledge a supreme being. We need to pray for this man that he will see the error of his ways & will turn to God & ask forgiveness. Eternal life in damnation can't be enjoyable. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Here you go. Indian Nations Council 3206 S. Peoria Tulsa, OK 74105-2027 Phone: 918-743-6125 Web site: http://www.okscouts.org Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Try the BSA web site if you can't find anything locally. They have a council finder. The address is http://www.scouting.org. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  8. meritbadge.com is an excellent resource for this. For most badges, they have worksheets & even some tests. Laura, let us know how your event goes. This might be a good idea for other Troops. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. I can see both sides on this & have used both methods - both with varying degrees of success. It seems there are some merit badges that are better when taught in larger groups - Personal Fitness, First Aid, Environmental Science, Camping justto name a few. And there are those better taugh in smaller groups - Communications, Family Life, Reading, Fishing just to name a few. If the PCL decides to do 2 merit badges a year & this is to be a boy run program, then I don't see the problem. Also, having some merit badge sessions at the Troop level is a lot better than attending a merit badge univeristy & having the chance the badge will get "rubber stamped". 10. They write down the names of the Scouts they gave the gear to. They also give the names to the PL's. Ed Mori Scoutmaster TRoop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. "I see unpacking to clean equipment so that it can be re-packed as a huge waste of time." I don't agree with this statement. If the gear packed isn't clean then it needs cleaned before it is put away. Therefore it needs unpacked, cleaned & re-packed. "If they don't have time to do it right at camp then they don't have time to redo it when we get home." This makes no sense! Why wouldn't they have time when they get home? We have Patrol QM's & they are responsible for the Patrol gear. Before we break camp they assign out stoves, etc. that need a better cleaning. They are due back at our next Troop meeting. If they aren't cleaned properly, it is up to the QM to either clean them or getthem cleaned. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. I think SSN's should be required for all adults who register. This way, when the backround checks are done they can be done completely. Only someone with something to hide would have a problem with this. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. While National allows the use of liquid fuels, some councils - mine included - prohibit them. Check with your council camping chair to see what the policy is. Propane with younger kids is safer. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Ditto to eisley's last post. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Welcome! I think you mean 5b. What other one in 5 do you plan to do? 5. Do TWO of the following: a. Visit a business or industry that uses computers. Study what the computer accomplishes and be prepared to discuss what you observed. b. Use a computer attached to a local area network or equipped with a modem to connect to a computer network or bulletin-board service such as Prodigy, CompuServe, or America Online. Send a message to someone on the network or download a program or file from the network. c. Use a general-purpose programming language to write a program application of your choice, subject to approval by your counselor. Dan, Yes it still discusses DOS. If also discusses FORTRAN, BASIC & PASCAL! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. NJ, What post by SCOUTER-Terry in what thread. Ed
  17. Sounds like the Catholic grade school I attended as a lad! Kids will be kids. Is writing on the bathroom walls wrong? You bet! Do all the kids in the school need to be punished because of this? No unless they all wrote on the walls. Should the school be monitoring the bathrooms to find out who the culprit(s) is? I think that is part of their job! There could be a safety issue here, too. Locking the bathrooms seems to be a bit extreme to me. And I don't understand why they can't go to their lockers during the day. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. "Because of this attitude and some other reasons, I AM taking my feminism elsewhere, along with my time, money and skills. It is obvious that I can't be compassionate or be myself around Boy Scouts without being wrong, and I live in an area that is full of people who don't want to follow any rules or methods of Boy Scouting, so I'm through banging my head against that wall. Find me with the cubs and other groups. Also, apparently my son is not for Boy Scouts since he doesn't want to camp every month and I don't have him focused on being Eagle at 13 years old." Not all Troops camp every month & the BSA goal is not to have Eagles by the age of 13. In this case, perception isn't reality. I gotta say that maybe Cub's is a better fit for you. It sounds like you want to be involved & Cubs requires more adult involvement than Boy Scouts. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. slont, No me. We stay in council. But you are correct in your post! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. We do 2 nights. We leave between 6:30 & 7 PM Friday and return around noon Sunday. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Married couples are allowed to tent together. It's misinterpretation of policy like what happened to bmchugh that gets me. A supposed trained trainer who spouts off that kind of garbage. I wonder if it wasn't his marriage that was ruined at woodbadge. I had two females in my woodbadge (Eagles rule) patrol & each pulled their own weight! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Did I miss something? Are Zorn & yaworski the same person? Or do they have the same IP address? Realize, the same IP address doesn't mean the same person. Sort of like a mailing address. I will miss yaworski. He did liven things up a bit. If he & ZP are truly the same person, I won't miss ZP. At times he was impolite & insulting. But then we all are in our own ways from time to time. What I don't like is that one of the posters on this board felt it was his duty to rid the rest of us of his presence. Glad to see democracy still live on! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I like OGE's suggestion. Also, when they are there, do they do anything? I think kids today are overcomitted. It seems their parents are trying to re-live their childhoods thorugh their kids. I feel kids need to commit to something instead of being a part-timer at many things. I don't feel this teaches them the importance of things. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
