Here we go again in the Peoples' Republic of Berkeley
evmori replied to eisely's topic in Issues & Politics
I'm glad I don't live in California! Isn't the City of Berkley discriminating by revoking the Sea Scout free docking privledges? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Out of line? How? If you were a member of a group that required you to pay dues & you refused, that group is within their right to kick you out. That is what the BSA did! Many organizations have membership requirements. If you don't like the requirements or don't agree with them, don't join. If you do & the organization finds out, they can require you to meet their requirements or hit the road. eisley, Thanks for the post. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

cubmasterp944, Welcome! How is your relationship with you charter partner? I would sit down with them & explain the problem. Then I would schedule a parent meeting and include your charter rep & explain to the parents what Cub Scouts is all about. As sctmom stated, Tiger parents ARE NOT suppose to drop of their Tigers. This part of the program is a parent & son program. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

kwc57, Been in the banking business for as long as you & I understand very well how the system works. Your post stated that banks couldn't do business on those days. Well, they can. Banks can take deposits, cash checks, allow access to safe deposit boxes, make loans, etc. That was my initial point. Banks aren't open on Christmas & Thanksgiving so they can give their employees time to spend with their families on the holidays. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

kwc57, The Federal Reserve is closed on Sunday & banks are still open. That might have been the original idea but no longer applies. Since our country was founded on Christian values, why would we want to abolich Christian holidays? Makes no sense to me. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Has anyone been able to connect to this site? I've been trying for 4 days with no luck. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Boy would I love to comment but I'm waiting for Merlyn. I think we all should. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I just got this e-mail. It might be worth checking out. Dear Scout Leader: I am a recent Eagle Scout, and I am about to release the results of an exciting project that I believe will benefit your troop in many ways. My new website, allmeritbadges.com, will be the most comprehensive, informative resource for Boy Scouts when it is launched Friday, November 22. allmeritbadges.com will feature colorful merit badge requirements for all 130 badges, including the new Fly Fishing badge, updated for 2002. Along with requirements, the site offers nearly one thousand links to external sites screened for their integrity in providing valuable information for each merit badge. Among other features to be offered are rank requirements for all Scouting ranks, from Scout to Silver Palms, as well as requirements for each of the special BSA awards offered. Scouts will be able to chat in a live chat room, or post a message on a merit badge message board to discuss requirements. And in the near future, allmeritbadges.com will even offer audio transcipts of interviews with persons needed for merit badge requirements. However, out of all the features on the new site, I believe the most revolutionary and exciting is our Merit Badge Counselor database. This nationwide service will allow any Scout, anywhere, to locate a counselor near him, and provide the counselor with a secure, easy to remember free email address to receive correspondence from boys. We are building our database in regions across the U.S., but would also love for you to help if you have counselors wishing to be listed on our site. What I have described is hopefully the beginning of many great things to come, to benefit Scouts in the Information Age. I certainly hope you will give us a chance to help your troop for the months and years to come. To entice you to visit us, allmeritbadges.com is giving away a pizza camporee to the troop with the highest number of Scouts who sign up on our site. Complete rules are online. I hope to see you November 22! http://www.allmeritbadges.com Yours in Scouting, Andrew J. Henderson Founder, allmeritbadges.com P.S. To sign up for our merit badge counselor database, click onto http://www.allmeritbadges.com/htm/counselor/signup.htm P.P.S. This is a one-time mailing. We collected your email address from Scouting forums on the internet, and have not or will not sell, rent, or distribute your information. Under recently enacted U.S. Code legislation, this message can not be considered unsolicited should we provide you with a method to "opt-out" from any additional mailings. To opt-out, send a blank email to opine@allmeritbadges.com with the email address you received this message at in the subject line. I tried to sign-up but it's not working yet. rex2796, Welcome! Sure you can wear you arrow on the ribbon. I do. On the button of the pocket where I wear my OA flap. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

sctmom, I think school district officials forget where their paychecks come form - Us - the Taxpayers. You have a right to know why things are done that effect your child. Both of my kids (now age 21 & 17) are deaf. When we put them in regular school we were always questioning why. That's are job as a parent. My kids knew if they were being treated unfairly we would be there for them. Naturally, we didn't stick our noses in the normal day to day stuff but we were and still are very vocal. My wife & I feel this has helped our kids be self advocates for themselves. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Gotta agree with OGE. Great verse, OGE! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Has this Den Leader had a talk with the parents? Might not be a bad idea. She could explain the problem & also tell mom & dad that since the Cubs are so disruptive they might not get the requirements finished in time therefore not earning their rank. I would also have the CM & CC present for this meeting. One more thing, schedule the meeting the same time as the regular den meeting and include the Cubs. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Like KS, we do monthly uniform inspections. This really helps the Scouts get uniformed correctly. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If you get the ACLU involved, it will only get messed up. I Like the idea of going to the local papers & TV stations. It seems the mass is being punished because of the actions of the few. Not a good way to deal with things. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

kwc57, Yes the trip should be cancelled or rescheduled for another location. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Another good reason to get training!

Abraiu, Tell 'em they gotta go or they can't be registered in your unit! I do that & it works quite well. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
We do the same thing. I have had Scouts ask if they could bring their own tents & told them "No". My reasons are we have enough tents. Also, I don't want the Troop held liable if something happens to the Scout's personal tent. Ed Mori Scoutmaster TRoop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Bob, I don't disagree just feel it is more of a two way street than you do. Yes the Pack has had them & kept them advancing. But what has the Webelos leader don to prepare them for Boy Scouts? Have they gone camping with a Troop? Do they know how a Boy Scout Troop operates? Has the Troop invited the Webelos camping? Do the Scoutmaster & Cubmaster stay in close contact during the year? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
Bob posted some great questions! He also stated to focus on the Troop as the Pack has done their job. But have they? Have they contacted the Troops in the area about Den Chiefs? Have they invited the Scoutmasters to their Blue & Golds and Pinewood Derbys, etc.? Have they helped prepare the Webelos and their parents for Boy Scouts? This is a two way street. The Troops need to be involved with the Packs and the Packs need to be involved with the Troops. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)

Is it possible they are the same person? I wonder if maybe Merlyn developed two more alter egos? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
