Scout Recruiting: Religious Separation Not Violated
evmori replied to berkshirescouter's topic in Issues & Politics
Wow! A decision that makes sense! Great! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Y roop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
I need some suggestions. We are holding our Troop Christmas party this coming Monday. Normally the Scouts do a gift exchange but this year we aren't. I would like to get the Scout a small gift instead. Any ideas? Thanks Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Welcome him back! From what you posted it sounds like this is a good Scout who wants to finish his Eagle. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

"Dare to Discpline" is an excellent book and should be required reading for ALL parents. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

sctmom, So what if you did hit your child? You are allowed as long as you don't take it too far. There are times a good crack on the butt in public is necessary! I know when I was a kid & I got out of line in public, my mom would give me a swift whack & I was back in line faster than you can say the Outdoor Code! I would rather see parents give their kid a whack instead of letting them whine & cry & ruin everyone else's time! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

dan, In a single word - YES. Abstaining has nothing to do with it. God has told us homosexuality is a sin. It was the final straw that destroyed Sodom! If one is a homosexual - practicing or not - then one can't be Clean nor can one be doing their "duty to God" nor can one be Reverent. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

kwc57, Sounds like it's time to stop the boys from bringing extra things to the meeting that shouldn't be there in the 1st place. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I know this is off the subject but I couldn't let it go. Not feeding your kid is not child abuse! Neither is spanking your kid for doing something wrong! Child abuse is beating your kid, delibertely burning your kid, locking your kid in a room for a week, etc. I think are turning child abuse into something it isn't! NJ, Deviant from God. In the Bible, homosexuality is considered a sin. Hertosexuality isn't. Sin is deviating from God. acco40, Yes we are all born with original sin. We are all also born with free will. Free to decide whether we want to live according to God's laws or not. God wants us to turn to Him for guidance. And where in the Scout Law or Oath does it say we need to be sin free? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

How can a homosexual live the Scout Oath & Law? If one is a homosexual one can not be morally straight & one cannot be Clean. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

kwc57, Where were the other adults when the supposed theft took place? Did they see anything? If you buried them as deep as you say you did, then it would be rather obvious if someone was stealing them. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Try getting parents to sign up for one short term thing. This will help get them involved without forcing them to make a long term committment. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

eisley, Where do you find this stuff????? I know you were here before me. Sounds like they got the goods on this guy and hopefully in time before anyone got hurt. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)

May-be it has another meaning and May-be it doesn't! I grew up Catholic, too, OGE & remember the same thing you do about the month of May & the May pole. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Compas, How can one celebrate Christmas if one is not a Christian? If it Jesus Christ wasn't born we wouldn't have Christmas! And if an atheist has a Christmas tree then I suspect he isn't really an atheist! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Who cares where the funding comes from. This is a good thing and if it cost us another buck or two, it will be worth it. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

NJ, Actually, Christmas trees are a Christian symbol. I can't remember how it started & don't currently have the resources to locae this info but they are. My point is if a Menorah is allowed why not a manger scene? Both are religious symbols. It should be both or none. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Sounds like a communication problem. The Tiger coordinator needs to be on top of who gets what and to make sure the person giving the awards knows also. What else does this dosey mom do? As far as dues, your pack will need to set up some rules & regs regarding this as well as other things. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

OGE, Great post! However where does it state the church & state are to be separate. The 1st ammendment assures us the government won't force religion down our throats and we can express our beliefs freely. I'm not in favor of the government sponsoring religious Christmas displays, either. But why does the manger scene have to come down yet the Menorah gets to stay put? And what about the Christmas tree & candy canes? These are religious symbols, too! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Someone please show me where in the Constitution or Bill of Rights it says there is to be a separation of church & state. Not an interpretation but the actual text that states this. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
klsdr, Welcome! A patrol activity is a patrol activity regardless of the day it held. Why does your church limit the amount of camping? This seems a little weird to me. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
