Would the GSUSA revoke a membership because a person was an atheist? -
Calif. Judges Possibly Banned from Scouting Activity
evmori replied to SR540Beaver's topic in Issues & Politics
It seems to me the GSUSA is being wishy washy on the religion issue. At least the BSA is unwilling to compromise their principles. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
OGE, Beacause of the type of card games. I don't let the Scouts play poker or blackjack, either. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

While the Troop is boy led, I wonder on how well. Excluding Scouts from outings is not a good thing. All Scouts should be included wherever possible. The PLC needs to re-look at this policy they established. If they want to exclude younger Scouts then they need to come up with an alternative program for them. I, however, do not see the reason why the younger Scouts were excluded from the outing in question. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

How, may I ask, are backround checks sidestepping the 4th, 5th & 6th Ammendments? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I usually don't let my Scouts play these type of games. I do let them play cards (hearts, etc.) Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

When a Webelos crosses over , they no longer have an active part in the Pack. They are for all intent a Boy Scout. They have gone as far as they can in Cubs. I would let this parent know this. It sound more like the parent is involved in the Pack & feels too much pressure to be involved in both. That doesn't need to happen. The parent can continue with the Pack until the summer & the son can move along in Boy Scouts. In the summer, the parent can then move (if he/she wants) to Boy Scouts. Unless you are crossing over your entire Pack to Boy Scouts, I don't see the concern with SFF unless this parent is in charge & wants BIG numbers to make them look good. If that's the case then this parent needs the SFF program explained. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Scalia Complains on Church-State Rulings By GINA HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Courts have gone too far to keep religion out of public schools and other forums, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says. Although the Constitution says the government cannot "establish" or promote religion, the framers did not intend for God to be stripped from public life, Scalia said Sunday at a religious ceremony. He contended that the Constitution has been misinterpreted both by the Supreme Court and lower courts. As an example, he pointed to a federal appeals court ruling in California barring students from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance with the phrase "one nation under God." That decision is on hold pending further consideration by the same court, but the Supreme Court could eventually be asked to review the case. Scalia, the main speaker at an event for Religious Freedom Day, said past rulings by the Supreme Court gave the judges in the pledge case "some plausible support" to reach that conclusion. However, he said, such decisions should be made legislatively, not by courts. The rally-style event about 50 miles south of Washington drew a lone protester, who silently held a sign promoting the separation of church and state. "The sign back here which says `Get religion out of government' can be imposed on the whole country," Scalia said. "I have no problem with that philosophy being adopted democratically. If the gentleman holding the sign would persuade all of you of that, then we could eliminate `under God' from the Pledge of Allegiance. That could be democratically done." The crowd repeatedly cheered Scalia, whose son Paul, one of nine children, is a priest at a nearby Roman Catholic church. Several hundred people joined the justice in singing "God Bless America" after a brief parade through downtown sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. "He's the voice of reason on the Supreme Court," said Jim McFall, a retired FBI agent who organized the parade. "His remarks were right on the money. The pendulum has swung too far and people have said `enough is enough.' We'll see it swing back." Scalia used the event to reiterate criticisms that the Constitution is being liberally interpreted. "It is a Constitution that morphs while you look at it like Plasticman," he said.

How do we encourage boys to wear the full uniform with pride?
evmori replied to imascouter's topic in Uniforms
Seems like a simple question. My answer - ensure all the adults in leadership who are in direct contact with the Scouts on a daily basis (SM, ASM, etc) are in full uniform at all Troop meetings & functions. Lead by example! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
littlebillie, So what if the BSA receives public money or free use of public lands? Where does it say they can't get this? Obviously there are some public organizations who think the BSA is worth funding! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

My point is there are other groups on college campuses that exclude certain people for various reasons & they are still allowed to exist and are still funded by the student paid activity fees. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Folks, You have no idea how proud I am to be a Scouter right now. The outpouring from the people that participate on the board brings tears to my eyes. Thank you. If everyone can wait until Monday, I will have an address for you. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

What about groups that exclude men? Or those that exclude women? What's the difference? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Folks, I have been copying each post to a Word document to give to Mike when I do see him. That won't be for awhile since he is under tight security. Either our district or council will be setting up a fund for him. I'll let you know the details as I get them. The police caught the other person involved in this tragic incident. Thanks for all you prayers & concerns. I know Mike will appreciate them. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Excluded from Overnight Experience at Wood badge
evmori replied to bmchugh's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
johnsned, Are you sure this is supported by National? If it is, then I feel National and your local council are wrong. OGE, I haven't taken the new course yet. I'm glad to hear this is a local thing but if National endorses it, it makes me wonder?? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
I just got home from roundtable and have some more info. This Scouter is currently paralyzed from the neck down. He had a trach so he can't talk right now but his speech will come back. According to my info, he is in fairly good spirits. There will be a church service next Wednesday for him & his family. Many of the Troops in our district plan on attending - mine included. Please keep this Scouter and his family in your prayers. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Excluded from Overnight Experience at Wood badge
evmori replied to bmchugh's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
What is the point of separate sleeping facilities for men & women? It seems this is taking PC to the next level! By separating the men & women would diminish the patrol method. If this is a result of the new course then I feel this policy needs reviewed & changed. I see no benefit. johnsned, Is your application a local on or a nation one? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Dan, No. I mean the Class A uniform. Yes an Eagle should be looked on as a leader but as a youth leader not an adult. Remember the cutoff age is 18! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

The latest is he is paralyzed. The bullit seved his spinal cord. The robber got $15. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
