When we hold up human beings as role models we are bound to be disapointed. Think about it. The people kids look up to now and when when I was a kid are hardly good role models. I think the best we can do is try to be the best people we can be for our families the Scout in our Troop. We can do this by trying to live the Scout Oath & Law in our everyday lives. Box 10456 Pittsburgh, PA 15234-0456 Here is the address for cards & the like: Mike Lahoff 446 Sleepy Hollow Road Pittsburgh, PA 15228 Thanks for all your concerns. I have been copying all the posts here to a Word document to send to Mike. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

NJ, I really didn't mean to take a shot at you. Just trying to make a point. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

NJ, I don't mean to sound mean spirited but who really cares what you believe in this case. TJ posted he has told other Scouters he is gay. If that isn't avowed then I don't know what is. That being said, TJ should have his membership revoked. No morality issue just a direct violation of a BSA policy. Just like breaking the law. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time! tj, I am truly sorry to hear about your homosexuality. It seems you are an excellent Scouter but according to the policies of the BSA, you shouldn't be a member. Because of this, I can't invite you to my campfire unless you turn from this lifestyle. If that ever happens, you are more than welcome to sit at my campfire. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

packsaddle, You are correct. But then it becomes an issue between the BSA & the CO. If the unit is the benefactor of the funds without any participation, the unit has not violated any BSA policy. A raffle is considered a game of chance & there by not allowed by the BSA. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

slont, I agree this is a problem. What rank is this Scout? Are they leaving beacuse they want to attend church? If so, I don't know if you have any recourse. Is it the Scout who wants to leave or the dad? Think these questions need answered before you can determine a course of action. If it turns out they are leaving to get out of the work of breaking camp then I would address this with dad & Scout together. This is probably adding extra work for his remaining patrol members as well as the remaining adults. If you ban him from leaving early then you might lose the Scout. tj, I'm not going to beat a dead horse. While I enjoy a lively debate, we have been over this one many times. I will continue to pray that you realize your sin and ask for God's forgiveness. If you do that, God will open His arms & accept you into His Kingdom. If you don't I'm afraid you will be banished to he**. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Since there are people here who don't like the WSJ editorials & other newspaper editorials, I would lke to know in what publication are their good editorials - in your opinion? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

tj, I applaud your honesty & courage in your post. I also must condemn those in Scouting who know of your lifestyle & do nothing. They are not living according to the Scout oath or law. And neither are you. I will keep you in my prayers that you will see the error of your way & will ask God's forgiveness for this sin. Then & only then will you & I meet in that great camfire in Heaven. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

ASM1, Whatever is going on with this guy & his SM sound more like a grudge war than Scouting. Once the attorneys get involved the trouble really starts! I do agree with Rooster7 that stories like these are the exception & not the norm. The nut cases always come out loudest! le Voyageur, What is the point of that article? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

littlebillie, My point is under the Constitution we are guaranteed freedom of religion and the freedom to express it. There is nothing that says we have to get permission 1st! I do agreee that it would be disruptive & I am not saying I condone this type of action. All I am saying is the Constitution guarantees us we can. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I see nothing wrong with the BSA's stance on gays. It the link, there is a statement "Most significantly, it is problematic to treat the Bible as if its writers were not affected by the limitations imposed on them by their position within a very specific cultural and historical context." The only limitations placed on the Bible ore those place by God. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Assistant Patrol Leader not counted for advancement

LauraT7, How many patrols are there for these 20 Scouts? I'll assume 3 for my example. Each patrol can have it's own quartermaster. That's 3 positions. What about Den Chiefs? Can any of these Scouts play the Bugle? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

le Voyageur, Thanks for the answer. I still feel backround checks are a good thing & should have been done all along. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

"I'm a little rusty on my Robert's Rules, but unless one has the floor, I'm not sure how that would fly - probably get ruled out of order... Interesting question, but of course now we've gone from ANY American citizen to member of Congress. Outside on the steps - now, that'd be a different matter, too. I think... " Wouldn't ruling him put of order be a violation of the 1st Ammendment? And what is the difference where he/she is? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If I'm not mistaken, any Scouter can attend the District meetings. I would go & confront her there. No one else on the District committee might know what happened. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If a Muslim was to walk onto the floor of Congress & prayed, so what. If he is an American citizen, that is his right guaranteed by the Constitution. Most Jews don't believe Jesus was the Son of God. They feel He was another prophet. And that is their right! They also don't believe the same thing Muslims or Buddists believe. What's your point. My question was not answered. Folks, I was at a service tonight for Mike. It was standing room only. I took my Troop & there were many Troops there form my district. It was amazing! I passed you posts on to Mike's parents & they were very appreciative. I'm still trying to get an address. I understand National will be setting up a fund. My District is also setting up a fund. I'll keep you informed. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Where does it say God & government must be separated? I know the government is not to endorse as specific religion. And by having a prayer said, is this endorsing a specific religion? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
