  1. RS, In answer to the two questions you asked, no. acco, I have the same question as CubsRgr8. Registered doesn't equal active. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. First of all, welcome to the campfire. There are many good ideas to be found in these discussions. I am only going to address the active part of your question and this has been discussed at great length here before. An active Scout is one that attends Troop meeting, campouts, events, etc. An active Scout participates in the Troop functions to the best of his ability. Scouts should not be required to attend every Troop meeting or outing since there may be circumstances which prevent them from doing so. What active isn't is a Scout who is registered & doesn't participate in the Troop program. I hope this helps & I look forward to chewing the fat around this virtual campfire in the future. 3. Congrats I use to be an Eagle ......... Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. "Ed just wondering...do you ever go back and read your own posts and feel profoundly embarrassed? Bob White" And you are refering to what post on this subject? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Wow! For such a by-the-book guy you really amaze me, Bob. Wine tasting OK for a Scout fundraiser? Then why not magazine sales that sell Playboy? Or tobacco sales? And while we're at it! let's get the Mob involved & we can really clean up! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. OK Games of chance are a no-no. Raffles are games of chance therefore a no-no. Seems simple to me! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Bob, I rethought my position since my original post & recanted. I am sorry I forgot to state so. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Thanks for your post silver-shark. I agree 100% Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. So Bob if a Troop is offered funds they know are from an illegal activity they shoudl accept them? Now I know you are going to say these aren't the same but technically they are. One is an illegal BSA fundraising activity and the other is just illegal! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Don't know, Bob. I have to question this one. It seems like ill gotten fruits to me. I would stay away from it & find another way to raise the funds. There are many other fundraisers a unit can do. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Bob, What a great way to side step the policy! And when someone asks the Troop where the funds came from that bought the new tents what are you going to tell them? If the Scouts participate in the selling of the tickets & receive a portion of the income from those tickets it make no difference what the ticket says or how it is promoted. It is a violation of the fundraising policy! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. I'm with Korea on this. Multitasking a requirement is a good idea. Good question. Based on the requirement all the Scout has to do is show experience in camping. The requirement doesn't say it needs to be with the Troop either. It does, however, need to be in a tent. I would sit down with the Scout & talk to him about these 12 nights of camping & then make my decision. If they fit the requirement, then I would count them. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Interesting discussion. While the G2SS only lists minimal tools by name that Scout's can't use, what does the Troop insurance say regarding this liablilty? I don't have a copy of my Troop policy with me so I'm not sure but I will look into this ASAP. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. I would ask everything everyone else has posted. I would also visit a couple Troop meetings to see what goes on. I would also go on a campout to be an observer. You can learn alot doing this. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. We hold two fundraisers for summer camp & the Scouts can apply to council for camperships. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. No. Let me repeat that so no one is confused. No. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Don't give in on this one. What these people are trying to do is wrong. No one can remove an adult leader from a Troop or Pack without the approval of the COR. They own the charter and are responsible for it. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  18. We started "Knot of the Night" at the beginning of our Troop meetings. We start with the square knot then move on to 2 half hitches, tautline hitch, bowline, clove hitch & timber hitch. This seems to keep this skill in the forefront and it is reinforced each week. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. A price can be charged for items at a bake sale! Whoever told you this has their facts wrong. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Who is making this request? If the adults are registered leaders, the COR must agree and council must be notified. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. I would buy all new canvas for all the camps (1 cub & 2 boy). I would also fund the current roofing projects. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Camporees are a great way for the Scouts to find out how they are doing with their skills compared to the rest of their district. We don't attend all district events. And sometimes we do go camping the same weekend a district event is scheduled. It's up to each unit. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. We have a mascot. It's a log with a wig & subglasses. He is the Keeper of the Fire! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Who can remove a youth leader (SPL, ASPL, PL, etc.) from office and for what reason(s)? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
