Guess Merlyn isn't going to respond to my question! Oh well! Not my loss! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
dsteele, I agree. Merlyn isn't really worth the keystrokes, but I couldn't refuse. What about the "In God We Trust" on our currenty? You never addressed that! And where in the 1st Ammendment does it say a government agency can't support a group who will not admit everyone? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
scoutldr, I never said anyone who doesn't agree with me is wrong! Where did you get that? The 1st Ammendment guarantees us the freedom of religion among other things. That means we are free to worship how we want. Nowhere does it state a government agency can't support a group who believes one way over another! Freedom from religion? Are you making that one up? Where in the Constitution does it say that? And don't start about the separation of church & state because that is mentioned nowhere in the document. By a government agency sopnsoring a BSA group doesn't establish one religion over another. What it does is state that governmetn agency feel the BSA is a good organization to back. Our tax dollars have the words "In God We Trust" on them, don't forget. And our tax dollars help fund many things both good and bad. Only, the BSA isn't one of the bad ones. So if you think I am arogant, fine. I'm not trying to be. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Merlyn, By not letting government agencies sponsor Troops/Packs/Crews would be a violation of the 1st ammendment! It would violate the right of religious freedom! Your view is just the opposite and wrong! And by the way, you didn't answer about the "In God We Trust" on our currency. Maybe all that living in Frostbite Falls has frozen your brain. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Merlyn, By sponsoring a Troop/Pack/Crew a government agency isn't breaking the law. There is no such law! If there was, we wouldn't have "In God We Trust" on our currency! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Mark, Couldn't help but notice you seem to be part of inclusivescouting.net which is a group that feels the BSA should not exclude anyone. Interesting! I must ask since I noticed something else, are you a homosexual? Somthing I have read seems to indicate that. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

kwc57, Do the Troops who complain invite Webelos to their Troop meeting & activities? If they don't, they shouldn't complain. We do. We invite 2nd year Webelos to every campout that would be appropriate & there is an open invitation to every Troop meeting. sctmom, By not caring I meant not caring that the requirements changed. It's not the Troop's job to help the Webelos. It's the Pack's job. The Troop is responsible for being available to help Webelos to meet their requirements to crossover. Camping badge - can we count family camping in 20 nights?
evmori replied to LauraT7's topic in Advancement Resources
Don't get me wrong, I think family camping is great! And yes a Scout is trustworthy. But sometimes his parents aren't and they could be the ones pushing him. And really, what is the hurry. A merit badge can take more than a year. If your Troop attends summer camp, there are 6 nights there and if you do on two night trip a month there is another 22! And if it's only one night trips (don't understand why) then there is another 11! All the Scouts in your unit have the opportunity to earn the Camping merit badge! And as far as rank requirements, this should provide ample oportunities. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Yes we do want and at least I need to know what they are taught. But, I just need to know what the requirements are so I know what to expect when they crossover. I don't really care that they changed. It's not a lack of interest. For us, (Boy Scout leaders) it is just information. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
sctmom, Don't be suprised. Boy Scout leaders aren't the ones who administer the Webelos program! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Cubs & Webelos needs to be shown as the beginning and Boy Scouts & Venturing as the end. Boy Scout Troops MUST be actively involved with the local Cub packs. If they aren't then there will be a large drop off. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
The Webelos as well as the other Cub rank requirements recently changed. I noticed the following in the Webelos requirements "Active means having good attendance, paying den dues, working on den projects" I know we have discussed this before but it seems to me that when a boy crosses over the Boy Scouts, active should have the same meaning. What do you think? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Like Fat Old Guy said, look at the requirements. While it doesn't say the camping needs to be with a Troop or Patrol, it is very hard to monitor if it isn't. Did the 10 year old Scout help dad set up the family tent? I would like ot believe he did but there is no real way to know. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

aco40, But when time is important and the SPL isn't strict about it, doesn't that tell the rest of the Troop "Do whatever you want"? Ed -
"Do you also boycott Levi-Strauss?" Yup

Scouts' $1/year Balboa Park lease ruled unconstitutional
evmori replied to Merlyn_LeRoy's topic in Issues & Politics
Respecting the belief of others doesn't mean accepting the belief of others. We are all free to believe what we want, but when it comes to God, the BSA is specific that a member must believe in a supreme being. And we are also free to believe that homosexualth is OK but the BSA says if you are an "avowed" (I hate that word) homosexual, you can't be a member. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Rooster7, The short answer is yes! If Scouting was coed, we would probably have an unwed mother merit badge! I completely agree with your point about homosexuals. It is basically the same if the BSA was coed. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Rooster, Sounds like an interesting week. A couple things I noticed: The homesick Scout with dad catering to him? Why was this allowed to happen? And then he went home! Don't agree. I have had numerous Scouts get homesick & have never sent one home. They will get over it & it will be a great accomplishment for them! And the dad should have been reeled in. It seems his catering to his son made things worse. The older brother. Seems like there is a potential excellent leader there if his resources are channeled the right way. Where is the PL? Where is the Troop Guide? Where is the ASM? Where is the SPL? Sounds like these guys need guidance & there isn't any. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
