  1. Bob, True but that still doesn't require a Scout to do anymore than what's in the book! It doesn't require he participates or attends. Sure for some of the requirements the Scout must show up but that could be 3 or 4 times a year. Would this still be considered ctive? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. I guess I'm not making myself clear. active is better defined at the Webelos level than it is at the Boy Scout level. And since being active isn't a rank requirement unit Star, what defines an active Boy Scout? The handbook as well as all the other publication is vague. Can a Scout who hasn't reached the rank of Star be considered active if he only shows up once and a while when he feels like it? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Merlyn, I really hope you are a better comedian than you are a legal eagle cause you aren't very god at the legal eagle part! Ed
  4. OGE, There are probably lawsuits pending for everything!
  5. Fat Old Guy, Don't worry. Merlyn will go away as soon as he realizes he is in a no win situation. That's why he continually avoids certain questions! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. 1st off welcome! There is a lot of valuable information on this forum. Wanna be a Scoutmaster, huh? What are you nuts! Just kidding! My advise, go get all the training you can get! Also, get to know the boys in your Troop. Maybe even get their opinions! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. The boys should be responsible for as much as they can handle!
  8. Bob, According to the handbook, there is no real definition of being active. You are saying "Active is more than being present at events. it is taking part in the success of the patrol and troop. Sometimes that can even be accomplished without being present through the use of good leadership, planning and communication tools." While I agree with this, it is your interpretation of being active. The handbook doesn't really say that. Now the Webelos handbook seems to be more specific. I guess what I don't understand is why is "being active" better defined for Webelos than Boy Scouts? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  9. Thanks Laurie. I just got home & got the book out, too. The point I am trying to make is in Webelos there is a definition of active. In Boy Scouts, it isn't. Sure on page 169 of the handbook it says takes part in meetings & other things. That's all! Seems widely open to interpretation by the PLC or the CO if they so deem. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. OGE, That is exactly what I am trying to say, only age doesn't matter. Ed
  11. It isn't unlawful! There is no law!
  12. Bob, It's not that I don't know how or where to find these things. I don't have a copy oh the handbook at my office where I am right now. Thanks for being so condescending! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Merlyn, Nope. Once again you got it wrong. If you go back to the post I where I originally asked the question you will understand the question. You are going to ahve to look for yourself cause I'm not restating it! And by the way, I don't whine. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Sorry Bob. I don't know the handbook as well as you do. And besides, you're the one who brought it up! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Agreed it is about our communicating skills as adults and IT IS about their not listening. If they don't listen, you can use all the techniques you want from all the books you can read & you will get nowhere! And you won't have to use the dreaded telling technique at all! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Consider youself forgiven, acco. But don't let it happen again!
  17. I'm still waiting on an answer to my question about "In God We Trust" on our currency! Guess you don't address the ones you can't win! Sounds like selective prosecution to me! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Bob, And from another point of view maybe this kid just doesn't listen! It happens no matter what you do! I do agree that your way is usually better but there are no guarantees either way. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Sorry for being so literal but I was trying to make a point. And you really didn't have to read anything into what I posted. You are correct! The UU did exercise their rights! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Where is the word expression? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Bob, Glad ya had a good vacation & glad you're back! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  22. Bob, Please elaborate for those who don't know what the handbook states. Thanks Ed
  23. packsaddle, What 1st ammendment right? Ed
