  1. This is starting to sound like Abbott & Costello routine! Someone needs to sit down with these guys & remind them what Scouting is all about. It sounds like they forgot or have no idea. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Mine is currently flying from a homemade pole lashed together! Long may she wave!
  3. Bad board of review! I wonder if they even know the answer?

OK. I stand (actually sitting) corrected. So since it is a law, what is the recourse if the law is violated? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Bob, The Mew Scout Patrol will have to be named after a feline for this to happen (grin)! Excellent advice, Bob. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Folks, While I follow & support the Flag Code lets remember it's just a code. Not a law. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. OGE, For going such a great job, give yourself a raise! Ed
  8. WOW! The earth must have stopped spinning! Bob, I read that the SAME WAY you did! Isn't it nice when you agree with me! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. "Ed claims to be a trained leader who has even trained others, yet his posts show some very 'unique' methods of leadership that are not at all reflective of the scouting program. Sometimes my patience level with such behavior is overwhelmed. Perhaps it should have been addressed through a private message and I will keep that in mind in the future. BW" Unique, huh? In what way, Bob? The Scout handbook definition of "active" is vague & open to interpretation. All I did was present one interpretation. If that is unique to you then so be it! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  10. While I'm not for the local option idea on this issue, there is a great example of how a local option works! Every state in the USA is a local option. Each has its own laws that its residents must follow and these residents are also subject to federal laws. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Bob, Been to training. Have been a trainer. "In the advancement program a scout 1)learns 2)is tested 3) is reveiwed and 4)is recognized. If you know a way to do these things without attending any meetings or activities than you are not operating a troop scouting program." A Scout can learn by reading the handbook in his room. He can be tested, reviewed and recognized when he attends on of the 10 required outings for rank. There is no requirement to attend Troop or Patrol meetings. Should a Troop run this way? By no means. Ths point I am trying to make is the definition of active in the Boy Scout handbook is vague while the Webelos requirement is better defined. Ron, No big deal! Bob does that all the time. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Mr & Mrs when addressing adults. Always say please & thank-you. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. The GSUSA doesn't admit boys as members. That's discrimination! The BSA doesn't admit girls! That's discrimination! What's the difference!
  14. It's contradictory because both stance ar virtually the same! Ed
  15. Isn't the recent vote by the Episcopal church to allow gays in direct contradiction to the BSA policy regarding gays? Ed
  16. "How could a scout advance without being present at meetings and activities?" There is no requirement that must be completed at meetings. They can all be completed at other Troop/Patrol activities. It is technically possible for a Boy Scouts to advance without ever attending a Troop/Patrol meeting, too! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Active enough to make Star doesn't need to be that active. A Scout is required to participate in 10 Troop/Patrol activities other that Troop/Patrol meetings to earn 1st Class. All the requirements for all the ranks up to 1st Class can be completed by showing up 10 times! And you would consider that active? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Bob, Before you stated about the Episcopal church: "I do not see how their rules for eligibility as a Bishop alters their ability to support the rules of scouting. "Then you stated regarding the UU's: "The BSA does have a right to exclude any organization from sponsoring scouting if they refuse to follow the BSA membership standards, and they have the right to determine what values are reflected by the contents and images of the BSA uniforms." Seems a little contradictory to me. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. "If you can find a GSUSA unit "owned and operated" by a government agency, sure; otherwise, the GSUSA, being a private organization, can do what it likes." And so is the BSA! Merlyn, Do you attack the GSUSA with as much energy as you attack the BSA? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. OGE, It's not a tought pill to swallow. It just doesn't make sense. If a Scout with a rank lower that Star isn't required to be at any meetings/outings/camping trips, etc. except those he needs as requirements or to have his book signed then how is that consistenet with the Webelos requirement? That doesn't seem like "active" to me. "Active" to me is attending Troop meetings, outings, campouts. "Active" is more than just showing up when you have to. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. I gotta agree with twocubdad on this. I a Scout earns his UU religious award, he has every right to where it on his uniform. The BSA has no right getting involved in the UU doctrine. They don't get involved in any other religions doctrine! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
