If the uniform is being worn, it should be worn properly. Having patches in the wrong place and other elements astray is not the way to go. Maybe it's time to have a uniform inspection!

At cub resident camp this past summer, the morning color guard unit struggled to get the flag posted. At first, they actually had it on the lanyard upside down and began to hoist it, saw they had it wrong and reversed course to fix it. In the silence in front of the entire camp - some of the parents from the unit stepped forward to start helping 'correct' the color guard. The camp director (over the PA) announced, "They are getting it, let them do it. breakfast will wait a few minutes for all of us." The camp director GOT IT, the cubbie parents did not. In fact some were openly upset at the CD for asking them not to intervene in the color guard's duty. This is a great example of parents not letting their boy do things for themselves. Yeah it might not be perfect but the boys are learning! And to be honest, the flag ceremony is for them, not mom and dad.

Was/is the CC a Green Beret or was/is someone in the CC's family a Green Beret? If so, I can understand the problem. If not, why is the CC involved in a patrol choosing a name? What does the SM say?

Posting about pie is not BS. Pie is a wonderful treat!

Ya know John, it is possible the inconsistency will be made consistent with a better definition. I'm a glass half full guy

Interesting. Lots of questions. Is this Scout a member of a unit? Is this Scout still registered? What requirements has this Scout completed for the Eagle rank? Who is the project for and what is the project? Why was this Scout in a juvenile detention center? How long was this Scout in a juvenile detention center?

Yeah I know someone will say give it a rest but when Merlyn starts twisting things I can't. What's absurd about a BSA unit kicking out atheists? It's happened a number of times, Ed. That is not what you said, Merlyn. You posted Ed, in case you didn't notice (and you didn't), I was referring to schools kicking kids out of BSA units, not out of school. which twisted your prior statement of bnelon44, the new part is how the BSA enforces their DRP. They certainly didn't tell public schools to kick out atheists when they chartered units. The BSA can't tell a public school to kick anyone out and a public school can't tell a BSA unit to kick anyone out! A public school can expel kids for various reasons and the BSA can do the same to it's members.

Ed, in case you didn't notice (and you didn't), I was referring to schools kicking kids out of BSA units, not out of school. Now that's just as absurd!
-
Because the BSA doesn't allow atheist members. Why WOULDN'T the BSA tell public schools to kick out people who don't meet their "standards" Ed? Shouldn't the BSA make it clear who can and cannot join? Totally absurd thinking! The BSA membership guidelines have nothing to do with who can attend a public school. It's this kind of thinking that makes people dangerous.

Yeah that's a good idea John. Let's keep inconsistencies consistent. That makes sense

An Eagle project does not require any assistance from any of the members of the Scout's unit.
-
Maybe it's not the WEBELOS program that needs help. Has anyone considered burnout? Starting as Tiger means almost 5 years of arts and crafts.
-
I did back it up Merlyn. You do fit the description of both. You post here to inflame and you are bigoted against the BSA. Your turn! Why would the BSA tell public schools to kick anyone out? Again, I pray you didn't pull something making that stretch, Merlyn.
-
No need to back anything up, Merlyn. You fit the definition for both.

Failure to act as bugler for Star advancment
evmori replied to mikemayer67's topic in Advancement Resources
Let's see. A bugler is required to make appropriate bugle calls, as requested, at troop/team activities. In order to do this, the Scout must be able to play the instrument. So, an audition would be appropriate. -
OK. Bigot - a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion. Hmmmm. Merlyn posts Yann, the real reason is because the BSA was taken over by bigots years ago. And after stating I'm not a troll Ed, I'm ready to back up my assertions with arguments. he posts The DRP Ed. I guess I was wrong, Merlyn. Not only are you a troll but also a bigot just like you claim the BSA is.
-
Go ahead Merlyn. This should be a hoot!

Atheist dad struggling with cub scouts

Not even a close comparison Merlyn! That was an actual law! And a bad one at that! This is your interpretation of a membership policy for a private organization! Close but no stogie! -
Yann, the real reason is because the BSA was taken over by bigots years ago. And Merlyn claims he isn't a troll!

Atheist dad struggling with cub scouts

The UK SA's policy still tells atheists they are second-class citizens, just like an organization that allowed Jewish kids to join, but no Jewish adults. In some ways, that's even worse than just excluding Jews altogether. The policy doesn't state that. If that is the inference you get then so be it. -

Sorry NE-IV-88-Beaver. But I'm kinda stuck on this "if you don't do your job, you don't get paid" mentality. No one is entitled to anything. -
I disagree; using the Dale case as a guide, doing anything that indicates a person might be an atheist can get them kicked out, such as writing a letter to the editor saying "under god" should not be in the pledge, or being seen in a bookstore buying a copy of "The God Delusion." Now that is one heck of a stretch! I pray you didn't pull something when you were formulating that statement, Merlyn!

The easy answer to this is make it at home. Don't bring the cooking sherry or white wine on the camping trip. Leave the bottle home.
