  1. Fat Old Guy, We have always had the Scouts fill out the blue cards using their name the way it is on our annual recharter roster. That way, there is no question. OGE, I have had this happen! There was a Scout in my Troop (now an Eagle) who went by the name of Buddy. His real 1st name was Joseph. When I went to council to validate some records, they couldn't find any merit badges for Joseph, only Buddy. Since then, we have gone to the method I explained to Fat Old Guy. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. dan, I don't mean to speak for Fat Old Guy but what I think he meant was kids who aren't in his care aren't his responsibility. And I would have to agree. We can't be responsible for all the kids in the world, only those we are responsible for. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Welcome nivipi! Pull up a log & grab a cup of joe & join in! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4;10
  4. Take him to the sherriff!!!!! Huh!!!! You've got to be kidding me!!!!
  5. "Preference" implies a choice, which is not consistent with the experience of any gay person I've ever met (myself included, of course)." Being gay is a lifestyle - a chosen lifestyle. There is no proof that one is born gay. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. While I admire the idea, selling popcorn on ebay doesn't seem to be the "Scouting" way.
  7. If younger brothers and/or sisters go on camping trips with the Troop, then the parent who brought them will not be able to see what a Troop outing is really like. Why? Because the parent will be focused on making sure the siblings are OK & not giving their needed attention to evaluating the outing. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Being a member of a church isn't a requirement. He needs a letter of reference from a religious leader. He could set up an appointment with a pastor in a local church to discuss this. After they talk this pastor might be willing to write a letter of recommendation. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. BSA doesn't stand for Baby Sitters of America! No little brothers (under Boy Scout age) on campouts! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. You can't compare race (which no one has control over) to lifestyle (which everyone has control over.) Religion maybe. Compare one lifestyle to another! One race to another! One religion to another! You can't compare the homosexual lifestyle to being black. That black person had no choice when they were born. The homosexual did. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. OK let's take this one step further. How many wear their uniform EXACTLY according to policy?
  12. You can't compare blacks & Jews to gays. Being gay is a lifestyle while being black and/or Jewish isn't. It's like comapring apples & oranges. There is no comparison. The gay community always seems to cite this! Bob, Excellent post! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Rooster7, Excellent post & excellent advise! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. My district passed out the popcorn stuff at roundtable on 9/3 & told us the start date was 9/27. The popcorn chairman passed out the stuff at our Troop meeting on 9/22. He told them the sale starts 9/27. If they start selling now, they do! I consider it initiative! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. pack, By saying "I can" I mean that as long as I am not violating any laws, I can. twocub, Yes it is nice. Now since the government isn't allowed to promote religion, what about "In God We Trust" on our currency? Or when someone is sworn in during a court case the words "so help me God" are used?? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. The menorah is one of the many symbols of the Jewish faith. Therefore if the law requires the removal of a symbol of any faith then the menorah should be removed regardless if the group has any ties to a secular symbol. What is good for one is good for all! By the way, I live in Allegheny County & remember the case well. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. pack, Good post. I have an American flag flying in my yard. Why? Because I can. Every piece of US currency has the words "In God We Trust" on it. Why? Because it can. I am not establishing that I am an American by flying an American flag in my yard. If I wanted to fly a Nazi flag(which I never would) I could because I can! And if a branch of government wants to display a menorah or picture of Allah they can! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. NJ, I didn't miss his point. How do you distinguish the difference between just displaying & displaying to promote? Ed
  19. "Let me ask you this: why would you choose to publicly display a religious emblem?" Because I can!
  20. NJ, While I understand your troubles with this, I really don't see a problem. I'm not sure but I don't think there is a law that says you must be of legal age to sell something. You would know better than I. Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Display = establish? That's a new definition! If that's the case the see = do! I don't think so!
  22. NJ, In some case you are correct but the removal of the menorah never makes the 6:00 news the removal of the creche does. Still, how does having either on the courthouse steps establish a religion? Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Merlyn, You don't post or talk. You spew. Christians usually violate the establishment clause? How? By wanting to have a creche displayed at the county courthouse? How is this establishing a religion? And what about the menorah right beside it? No one ever tries to get that removed! Ed Mori Scoutmaster Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
